QUOTE(babysept @ Feb 23 2008, 02:21 AM)
my case is a bit complicated..

uhm.. im a Tarc student.. Part 2 and 3 of ACCA, its internally assess and also externally assess for Part 3..

this will be my final sem and im taking the optional papers, P4 and P5.

Im having my final exams in May for P4 and P5 (internally assess), so i was thinking.. since i have not pass F9, means its impossible for me to take up P4 for external exam.

So i was thinking whether is it possible for me to take up F9 and P5 for the coming June sitting. I do not want to waste the knowledge which i've studied a month ago for my final since i still have them in mind..

IF thats the case, as what u hav said.. meaning.. my next sitting, i have to take up F9 and P2.
What if, i wanna take up F9 and P3 instead of P2? Is that possible?
*
Hmm, since TARC has internal stuff, I'm not too sure bout it. My reply was assuming u sat for all the papers as external ones.

And based on my understanding, yes you can take P3 instead of P2

QUOTE(kelvinlee1983 @ Feb 23 2008, 07:47 AM)
After i read ur msg, i dont understand wat is internal and external

I think ur external means that ACCA paper.

We are not interested on ur internal assess, u just need to tell  us how many papers{external)u havent take?

If u want to take P4 and skip for P1-P3, ACCA wont allow u
*
I think it's TARC's arrangement with ACCA, they take some internally assessed papers instead of the ones we take.

Thanks to you guys I passed everything! Thanks for the tips and encouragement  smile.gif

And if I've got anything to add, it's that I think you guys care too much about the lecturers laugh.gif Not a single one of my lecturers has ever been mentioned in an ACCA thread ma si still one-shot pass everything. Your results ultimately reflect your luck, your exam technique, your writing skills and the time you put into trying to remember the stupid IAS.
*
Haha I actually kinda agree with you. I mean,it's definately not wrong to go hunt for the good lecturers out there. In fact, finding a good lecturer does help somewhat, but sometimes ppl seem to be overly dependent on having such lecturers

I on the other hand think his P1 classes helped me get through the paper.

So it really boils down to preference,go attend a class or two and see for urself

EHHHH...I didn't know ICAEW was available to CAT students or I would have opted for that. Oh wait, they (Sunway) probably didn't provide ICAEW yet when I finished CAT,not too sure.

Oh well..

hahaha, it was available because deloitte offered top scorers a chance to work with deloitte, at the same time being their approved ICAEW employed, that's why they can take ICAEW.

sadly, the contract is for 5 years. So, you're stuck in audit for 5 years lor

QUOTE(allornothing @ Feb 28 2008, 06:29 PM)
True. A few of my former classmates got sponsored to continue to ICAEW after completing CAT. Of course, their CAT marks were probably a lot better than mine..lol tongue.gif

He's probably true in certain sense, some of us do rely on a small element of luck to pass now and then.

But he's statement is way too sweeping laugh.gif

i was actually refering to those who are full time students with marginal pass. normally these students just practice the past year question and as you analyse all the papers, the examiners will repeat the questions eventually. they do not understand the needs in the practical world. i feel the full time students need internship programmes for them to be exposed to the practical world. studying acca from textbooks will not be sufficient.
*
And hence the 3 years working experience requirement. The learning doesn't stop when u pass all the papers, there's still the working world for u to learn.

To thik examiners will repeat the questions and thus practising past year questions would probably work until the fundamental level. At the professional level,I doubt such a technique alone would give u the marginal pass.

Does the college name that we graduate from will be stated in our ACCA cert? Will the reputation of the college's reputation plays an important role which may influence the boss's decision in hiring employees? Eg. a student who graduate from Sunway will get a better offer than a XYZ college even both the students get the same results, ceteris paribus? hmm.gif

If doing OBU at institutes other than Sunway, how does it cost?

It is better to doing OBU straight after u pass ACCA Part 2 (F1-F9), or doing this after complete the whole ACCA? Which one would be recommended?
*
No,I don't think the cert states the name. Having said that, colleges like Sunway do have like "arrangements" with the big four,so generally obtaining a job there isn't too much of a problem if you come from Sunway. But I'm sure ppl from all other institutes get a job there anyways.

You can do OBU with seperate mentors outside.Cost around RM3k (+/-)

If you can cope,by all means do it after finishing Part 2. Or you can wait till u pass ur core papers, and do it when ur left with the 2 optional papers. If not,do it after ACCA. It all really depends on urself.

QUOTE(stephanie0721 @ Mar 7 2008, 04:42 PM)
Hi,i m a new member here.

i m going 2 pursue ACCA course in July.

Hence, i would like 2 know more about ACCA prior 2 becoming a ACCA student.

i hav heard lots of ppl said tat ACCA if the toughest exam as compared wif CPA ,CIMA,CAT and others.

My uncle suggested me to take a degree in accounting course rather than taking ACCA course directly.Upon graduation,i merely have 2 sit for additional 4 or 5 papers in ACCA and get the ACCA cert.

In most ppl's opinion, one needs 2 repeat the whole lesson once u failed one of the papers.is it true?

I wonder if  ACCA is  indeed the highest standard in accounting?

i chose 2 enrol wif FTMS. To my knowledge, the passing rate of FTMS in among the highest and there are quite some prize winners frequently.
Is it a better choice in comparison wif Sunway which is recognised as a platinum status?

The fees of Sunway is rather expensive. It's 2 far for me as well.

pls giv me some advice.thx a lot  =)  nod.gif
*
I don't think ACCA is the toughest one out there. Putting CAT aside, (since it's the foundation of ACCA and hence for obvious reasons easier) ICAEW for one is supposedly tougher. To say CIMA is easier is also questionable.

No,you don't particularly need to repeat the whole lesson. You would have some stuff up in ur head and u would probably just need to brush up,so to speak.

Once again,no,ACCA is probably not the highest standard in accounting.

About degree vs ACCA,it really depends on what you want. Going the degree route would expose u to a longer "foundation" period so to speak, and you pick up research skills and what nots. It's slower and you take time to really understand the whole accounting concept,so to speak.

As for ACCA,it is sometimes somewhat of a rush. Your main focus is passing exams and sometimes u cut corners to do this, and hence you might sometimes neglect understanding fundamentals properly. Nevertheless,I suppose learning is a continuous process and u'll continue learning in the workfield anyways,so don't worry bout this too much. And ACCA is the faster route of the 2.

QUOTE(roy_pck @ Mar 7 2008, 08:30 PM)
I'm taking my final 4 papers (P2,3,4,5) this sitting and no matter fail or pass all, i would start working after June exam.

But the problem is I'm unsure whether to do OBU or not after exam. I feel like no point to do OBU if I would have completed ACCA. If i was to do it, is it possible to complete OBU within 2 months ( mid June - mid August) while I am waiting for the results to release?

Guys and girls, especially those who had done OBU, please enlighten me.  notworthy.gif
*
Yes,you can complete the OBU in 2 months if you don't slack off. But you'll get ur OBU results (the degree) sometime after you've started working. No big deal really,if you plan to start working after results and you have no other plans for the holidays, why not smile.gif

QUOTE(stephanie0721 @ Mar 7 2008, 10:20 PM)
How will u decide how many papers of ACCA 2 sit in for am exam?

i've heard some of them said tat the maximum is sitting for 4 papers in an exam.

i wonder how 2 ensure tat our lecturers had covered up  all the syllabus required in the exam papers and, how should i make a decision 2 sit for 1,2,3,or 4 papers in an exam?

Added on March 7, 2008, 10:24 pmMay i ask, what does OBU mean? Is it a neccesary for us?
*
For ACCA,yes,a maximum of 4.
No particular way to decide, really depends on what you feel you're capable off. In the past,it was good to try out the 4 paper combo with 2.1-2.4 because there was like a week's gap in between 2.3 (Wednesday) and the extra paper (2.4,following Wednesday I believe)

How to ensure lecturer has covered all.Hmm,maybe by looking at the syllabus guide thingie provided by the examiner (usually in the front pages of most textbooks) Lecturers generally give an overview at the start of the semester as well as to what is required and what shall be covered.

QUOTE(yenx @ Mar 7 2008, 11:26 PM)
an ACCA student wannabe here too.
no idea whats OBU too. Any experienced seniors care to enlighten? sweat.gif
*
An additional degree to ur ACCA qualification. It's a collaboration between Oxford Brookes Uni (hence OBU) with ACCA.Since the ACCA course itself lacks the training in research skills, this degree covers that.
Also, while professional papers are generally regarded above degrees (especially to your employees), certain institutions might not recognize it,which can be a problem when if you intend to further your studies (say, take a Masters) with that particular institution.
Apart from that,at the moment,it honestly seems like a "can take, why not take" kinda thing.

I'm not too sure,I think the startin pay is roughly the same. But seriously,it's just the starting pay.Look ahead, try relying more on performance than qualification sweat.gif

QUOTE(kelvinlee1983 @ Mar 9 2008, 11:03 PM)
then wat for we proud as ACCA?if ACCA salary is lower than local U degree?

what for always failed ACCA and re-sit again also fail again, again and again?

need more explaination!!!!
*
First off, stick to the facts. Ppl were saying equal salary. Who the bloody heck said anything about lower salary? sweat.gif Ppl like you like to blow stuff out of proportion.

Secondly, think long term. Is the starting pay all that matters to you in the world (or at least the working world) As ppl rise up,employers might need them to take professional courses anyways to get certain promotions. You would already have that in hand.

Go do some thinkin or asking around,I'm sure you can find other reasons why we are proud of having ACCA as you put it

P/s : In contrary to post above me,I do think personal opinion is important in exams, well,to a certain extent at least, especially at the professional level. If you're gonna answer everything from the textbook, well, your future employer would be better off buying the textbook than hiring you.

do u mean tat personal opinion is fairly important regardless in our exam or in the future?

By the way,is the textbook u mentioned above = theory?
*
Well, yea it's fairly important. Obviously you'll need basic knowledge, understanding of concepts and theories, etc etc but that doesn't really make you stand out does it? So yea, personal opinion (good ones at least tongue.gif) are fairly important,be it in exams or in the future.
But of course, don't go write a whole exam paper based on personal opinion and then look for me once you failed the paper laugh.gif It,just helps to have a personal opinion in the exams, especially for case study papers like erm,P3 Business Analysis smile.gif

And yea, textbook I mentioned refers to theory
