Well, if you can stretch your budget just a bit, Benq has been selling 24" LCD monitors that are 1080P ready for a while now. They always rotate their model, so prices will vary. I bought my Benq FP241VW from Lowyat for RM2198 not too long ago. Still within your budget at least. I think Viewnet is still selling this same model. Look up the specs here :

http://benq.com/products/LCD/?product=997&page=features
*
That's amazing, 24" at RM2198... (if I add RM800 more, its 27" Dell). You think its worth it?

Since you're willing to pay RM3K, might as well go with HDTV.
*
Nay... i've seen the difference between HDTV and LCD display. I really prefer LCD display especially those for PC.

*Edit : Dell is having PC Fair promotion on the 27", less RM1,100... meaning normal price around RM3,800 (now RM2,999). What do you think? Offer ends 10 December 2007... oh oh

dude, been pouring over reviews of the 24" BenQ and 27" Dell, the downside to the BenQ is that it lacks connection while the Dell is due to price...

And guess what, 10/12/2007 is when the offer ends and only tomorrow Saturday is Dell open...

can u guys recommend me then full 1080p HDTV that cost less than RM3k ??

if not i'm getting the 1920x1200 reso Dell 27"

ps : i thought Dell had 30" too ?

Believe it or not, I do think that a full HD monitor makes quite a difference. You'll have to scrutinize a bit to look for differences, but it's there. It has nothing to do with gloating whether the monitor is 1080P or not. PC gamers have been enjoying the higher resolutions for years, so is that to say that a PC game running at 1920x1200 is no different from a PC game running at 1280x1024?

technical specs it does

but does the eye tell the different ?

for a 24 inch monitor, by looking 20 inch away from the monitor I can tell,

the eyes really can't tell the different from a 720P and 1080P

What kind of connection do you mean? The Benq is quite versatile, as it has pretty much all types of video connection: composite, component, S-Video, D-sub, DVI, and HDMI. In fact, it is actually the 27" that's lacking: no HDMI input.

Dude, it's a monitor. It's kind of expected that you'll sit nearer to the monitor. At normal PC viewing distances, you do appreciate the subtle improvements 1080P brings to gaming. You won't play a PC game from the couch at a distance of 5ft or more. Specs are there to inform the user, not to brag about. Of course in the end, it's up to the viewer to decide whether the added cost is worth it or not.

oh...got mixed up there, its so late at night... its the Dell that lacks HDMI connection.

the review at http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/11/07/Benq_FP241W/1
and http://www.trustedreviews.com/displays/rev...reen-Monitor/p1

give the BenQ display the best possible scores.

now it comes down to this (since both BenQ and Dell support 1080p)...

24 inch VS 27 inch...
does it make a world of difference in gaming? I dun want to get the display and then say to myself "damn, I should have gotten the other..." u know wat I mean

*Edit : I seriously got my eyes on the 2707WFP vs. BenQ FP241W... the RM1,100 price reduction for the Dell is irresistable (saw it a few days ago and it was well above RM3k)

ok guys... let ask urself one simple and nice question...
wat is ur space and distance that you sit from ur console???

with LCD monitor you have to sit near la of course...
but if you get a LCD TV that is a difference...
LCd monitor is nice for individual gaming... *at least for me la...
if you wanna play multi player i would like to get bigger screens like LCD TV...
cos really la... like wat Djiin say.. hard to differentiate it by side by side...
although you might spots some difference...
but is the distance that you play ur console that's the main factor....
you wanna sit near and squeeze at ur com table or console table or...
sit nicely on sofa and relax to play with others multiplayer... wink.gif
I would choose LCD TV... cos can use multi purpose...
no need to sit near...cos office life is more than enough...
no need 24 hours also sit near to this kinda display device... spoil ur eyes..

The distance is important.

If you are sitting far from this display, you compare a lcd and a lcd hdtv is a lot of difference.

You either get 24 or 22"

You should consider because it will stay with you for quite sometime before you change. And you still a student.

If you are going 27" , y not just go for for a HDTV with a bigger "

Yup.

Sitting distance make s different. Compare a sitting a 24 " monitor and a Sony bravia 32" same distance in the hall.

You will notice the huge different with 1080p.

if i were to have 3.2k to splurge on monitors for the xbox360.. i die die also will go for a 32" lcd tv.. it offers more viewing space.. and also great for movies.. and seriously.. people have been debating on the difference between a 720P 40" lcd and the 1080P 40" lcd tv.. i doubt that there's a difference to the human eyes..

and i strongly suggest u get a 32" lcd tv for your xbox360 with that kinda budget.. you'll never go back to smaller screens after that.. laugh.gif

i'm so used to my 32" back in KL.. and now i have to game on a 29" crt.. don't even have the mood to play anymore..

yes.. it's THAT bad sad.gif

there is a huge difference la... cos 40" is huge... with the 720p or 1080p...
you can see the difference...
the viewing distance is the difference.. smile.gif at the same distance 1080p will show more detail...
once you are use to LCD or monitor... then you can get back to normal TV life with xbox 360... smile.gif

I'm using a 22" widescreen lcd monitor. I'm still in college so I'm fine with 720p for now. At least is the cheapest way of getting HD rclxms.gif

For the uninitiated and newbs:

There are very few 360 titles that actually have TRUE 1080p resolution, or even 720p for that matter.

Halo 3 for example, doesn't even have 720p, let alone 1080p.

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/14676/Bungie...Natively-in-HD/

and here's an extensive list of titles, new and old, that don't have 720p either (hence in my books, not actual HD games)
http://www.gamebrink.com/blog/2007/11/15/m...let-alone-1080p

That being said, I'm a proud owner of a Dell 2407 and let me say I'm still very happy and content with my purchase.

It plays the 360 well, and serves as an awesome PC monitor.

However, if you're going to spend RM3k on a display, and you will use it solely for gaming, I would recommend a 32" LCD TV instead.

The extra real estate and vivid colours will definitely fulfill your requirements.

Yes, i can even tell it's at 720p even just at a glance. Last time when i play Lost Planet, the box says 1080p support but when i play thru, i can clearly see it's nothing more than just upscaled from 720p. But when i tried Virtua Tennis 3 in 1080p, the difference is quite obvious. nod.gif Still, if you're planning to use it only to play games on the 360 and not sharing with a PC, i'd still recommend getting an lcdtv instead. icon_rolleyes.gif
