1) Finance 51yo, apply for job, previously a finance manager, quickly got offer and took it

2) HR 53yo, can't along with boss, decided to apply for job and had to take pay cut, managed to find job

3) Marketing 51yo, can't find job at all, apply took pay cut also cannot find. In the end friend recommendation helped to find job.

So in conclusion, among the 3 fields.

Is finance still marketable at 51yo ?

What about Marketing? seems very tough environment once they are in 50s, because they tell me a lot of marketing competition from younger people and barriers to entry is very low due to anyone can become marketing manager.

Actually if you willing to lower down expectations, you can find job in any field.

After 50, only change job if you are being recommended or headhunted..

Marketing can find job, just 1 ppl need to do 3 ppl's job scope. Even MnC the same.

All my previous companies and boss all set unrealistic expectations, 1 ppl need to know web design/coding, video/image editing, graphic design, copywriting, SEO/SEM, AI etc. I used to have passion for it but now i fking hate any marketing related jobs.

The worst kind of boss is the kind of boss who dont understand all this shit and think 1 person can do it all.

I had a job not too long ago for an European company, crazy boss wants me to design/code and do seo/sem for the website, makes the company new video intro for their youtube channel, oversee video production, implement meta pixel tracking etc in all under a week. I kid you not, he wants me to finish everything in a week. ALONE. On that week, I only slept a couple of hours everyday.

Some boss are fucking delusional. I had a big argument with him and quit on the spot.

At least, able to FIRE, but choose to work due to past time and keeping busy for mental health.

Marketing still need human touch .. But HR will be heavily impacted

The key word is "manager" title. If got manager title it is not so hard to find management job at 50yo. Marketing post is depend like in corporate company they have marketing department then they will still likely accept 50yo. But those marketing, advertising or event companies they would prefer young people like below 40 for manager role.

There is very few people will resign at this level or with such age.

Unless you look for lower position or pay cut.

At such age, you hold for the position till 55 for the EPF. The high salary and compounding will accelerate your EPF money fast. For those who know how to calc.

Boss told me to tahan, they hiring another person to help and ask me in the meantime to finish everything first 🤣

Quit after 2 weeks last month. Salary was high but I cannot stand the pressure. I don’t mind doing work as a lone wolf but at least give a reasonable deadline. Told the boss it’s not possible but keep guilt tripping me can la you can do it 😓

That breadth of skillset has never occurred to me as unrealistic, partly because that's what I've did; work across a wide domain in the last 25 years of work.

What I think is effectively happening is employers are back to looking for generalists because the skill gap can be addressed with AI. You can't get top quality or refinement - but you can deliver a lot of "good enough" work.

This is the reality when you are above 45 and or high pay. The risks of losing your job is high, hence before that, investment and earning passive income is always welcome.

Once the curtain fall, it is hard to secure another job unless you demand lower but again at the mercy of hirer.

Unless you have a niche skill set or your name is highly known in the market for excellent results. That's diff story.
