QUOTE(Zot @ May 23 2025, 11:26 AM) Increase retirement age means that company cannot retire you before reaching retiring age unless you are willing to retire, right? On positive side, company cannot get rid of you to hire new younger people for less pay. The company have to bear consequences if aging worker become slow and less efficient. Companies can do restructuring and remove roles deemed no longer required to get rid of headcounts.

QUOTE(abm @ May 23 2025, 11:29 AM) What is the reason they want to do that? Because of man power shortage? Or because the people don’t have enough saving to retire? Or for some other reason? So that EPF will have more money and so that gomen no need to pay pension so early. The only impact to private employees is when they can withdraw EPF. Don't worry about working until 60, most private employees will self resign before that.

QUOTE(CoffeeDude @ May 23 2025, 12:19 PM) Companies can do restructuring and remove roles deemed no longer required to get rid of headcounts. Not so simple lah. Companies need to bear the extra cost for firing people during restructuring. It is not free because that's what Labour laws demand.

QUOTE(soul78 @ May 23 2025, 12:16 PM) companies will make it difficult for old ppl and indirectly force them to leave... Old people can retaliate by simply not performing, and just wait out the 5 years. Unlike young people who need to prove themselves in order to get career advancement, old people are just waiting to collect paycheck before the inevitable retirement, there is no need to prove themselves. In the long run, companies will suffer because they only have the options to continue to pay salary for low performing staff, or retrench and pay for the retrenchment fee to get rid of them earlier.

QUOTE(30624770 @ May 23 2025, 12:13 PM) Everyone also say want to retire but in reality most can't afford to retire early lah For those still under pension, retirement early is a plus. That's why currently many civil servants object to longer retirement age.

QUOTE(fongsk @ May 23 2025, 12:07 PM) How u know PMX tumbang la…. U r lucky they did not form a committee to investigate and another committee to reveal the findings and another committee to make proposal and another committee to present proposal and another committee to debate and another committee to see how to implement and so on and on and on…. I guess government need to maintain the GDP growth or increase the productivity. Basically need the T15 to work longer to pay more taxes so that government can continually fuel the B40 and increase the government servants’ salaries Not to forget the debt is also ballooning. Simply cannot afford the recession

QUOTE(MR_alien @ May 23 2025, 12:02 PM) this has nothing to do with working this has everything to do with you touching your EPF raiding retirement age = raising the age till you can touch your EPF Not really. Even now with retiring age of 60, you can withdraw your EPF at 55 also. The one above 55 is separated into another account which can't be withdrawn as yet. I think. So, if 65, the 55 I think will still be there.

First raise the retirement age. Then raise the withdrawal age. Not that this never happen before if i remember correctly.

QUOTE(soul78 @ May 23 2025, 12:16 PM) companies will make it difficult for old ppl and indirectly force them to leave... Ageism is very real in Malaysia and there is no protection for it as compared to western countries. My china MNC now, the moment you hit 35/40 they sudah ask you to retire so fresh budak can come in replace you.
