The basic definition of a refugee is someone who has "well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion"

Not being able to open a bank account or find work in itself doesn't even meet the basic criteria, much less the other criteria under the 1951 Refugee Convention, and not to mention any additional requirements under refugee law in each country.

As I said, the perception that people have about asylum, and the reality, are very far apart.
