Which ISP best in consistency? I'm hosting 24 hours and the lag is unbearable.

I jumped from Maxis to Unifi, biggest mistake ever
Been with M for 2 years with zero connection related issue, only bad pricing
I was being a cheapskate, took Unifi's 6 months free bill promo ended up with horrible routing

My own experience, Maxis is overall the best compared to Unifi and Time (stability, routing wise)
Other ISP I can't comment as I've yet to try them

I remember hearing years ago that Maxis was using Unifi’s backbone. Maybe it’s time I revisit my Unifi contract.
*
The routing is different
Basically it is like buying a house from developer but you do your own design and renovation
Unifi's house, Maxis's touch everything else

QUOTE(leezhijiang @ Sep 29 2025, 11:16 AM)
" the only problem is hardly to get both technical works together, either TM come and Maxis no come, or reverse"

Depends on who is the one asking. For usual small potatoes subscriber, it will be a bit difficult. However it will be very different if it is a very famous influencer / directive from higher up in the ministry
*
My own experience, oftentimes Maxis/Unifi's tech would leave their phone numbers for you to call
If something really goes wrong, you can get them to come without going through Unifi and Maxis
Might need to pay lah, but last time when my fiber cabut they came to fix it within 30 minutes

2gbps here same la. I'm also considering other telco already.

I dropped Maxis for Unifi
Biggest mistake in years cry.gif
My only option is Allo now, since it doesnt rely on Unifi's infra and I dont need to go through all the hassle explaining things to Maxis and Celcom
However, last time when I asked...Allo told me they are not able to provide service when one is subscribed to another ISP despite they are not sharing the same infra...hmmm

I am also interested in another last mile provider but only TM infra is available. I always wonder where do people stay with multiple last mile provider.

What if you just subscribe without telling them you have TM? I think it is just that they do not want all the noob complaining later on they cannot transfer since it is the "norm".

I tested Maxis during evening and it seems they are congested too, just not as bad. Maxis' latency during congestion is 10x better than TM. Lower packet loss than TM.

TM made it excessively hard to terminate service. In NBN, you just do it online and "service offline". No call. No nothing.
You go to the website of another telco, click click, NBN receives an XML file, new service online. No visit, no contract, no nothing.
*
Unemployed at the moment, once I got a job I will try to subscribe Allo without letting them know I'm already with Unifi
If Unifi doesnt have a hefty termination penalty, I would gladly pay to leave their service

No, I am exclusively using Google DNS on laptop and phone due to all the TM problem. Just combine with uBlock Origin.
I still have ControlD configured for all IoT devices that won't feel the pain of congestion.

My hypothesis is that your browser randomly use Quad9 and redirect you to CDN outside of TM's network.

This is due to BGP Greedy's problem where the path length between Singapore and Japan is exactly the same.
Path vectoring do not know about physical distance, only Path count.

Of course TM can workaround this by using localpref. But then they must do this for every damn route and you can imagine the maintenance / documentation pile up quickly.

Another way is to have different localpref ranked by physical distance, but then TM do not have enough capacity. If they do this then MyIX and SG will be perma congested while France will be underutilized.

Best is just to avoid TM altogether.
This shit is getting so complicated I doubt they can figure it out. Actually they just need to dump money into upgrading all the congested path and be done with it.

But remember, handbook says shareholder value come first. Not taking risk is next. Saving money is third.
Fuck technical excellence or customer satisfaction.

At least Audi champion technical excellence.
Amazon champion customer satisfaction.

Oh yeah, I checked with their CS
They told me if you jumped from another ISP, they'll give 6 months free
Also, previously they insisted I can't sub to them when I'm already using another ISP. However, the rep highlighted it is because they're worried about the limited fibre trunking available (condo). Told them my property is landed, he said can go ahead and register.

Public IP needs to pay extra, however it is only a one off RM100 payment

Should be interesting, I'll keep Unifi for 6 months
Probably upgrade my hardware to take advantage of the combine 1.5G bandwidth lol

Is UniFi that bad though? I'm back in UniFi home again and it seems all OK at this hour. laugh.gif I have two meetings this evening, all is fine.

It is sort of an intemediate issue for me, since they are willing to give me 6 months free (most likely) I would like to give them a try
A bit scary consider I'm probably the only user in this taman doh.gif

Well well well so muc cheaper unifail

6 months free but tied to 24 months contract right? Anyway, hope it suits your needs and not depending on UniFi only.
*
Yes, and the early termination fee is still RM500 or remaining of the contract whichever is more
Thanks

Textbook reply from Unifi on the high latency issue recently
Quoting from a friend who escalated this to MCMC:

"Regarding the high latency issue reported for the above-mentioned account, we have conducted network tests and observations referring to the IP destinations 104.16.133.229, 1.1.1.1, and Controld DNS. Initial finding, the root cause of the connection's is due to a high traffic issue with the Singapore server. Due to that, we have rerouted the traffic with IP and found it to be within the acceptable range of our network. Our technical team advised you to continue monitoring the connection.

Hence, we presumed that the technical issue had been resolved. We would like to advise you to monitor the performance of your service, and if this problem persists, it is recommended that you make a call to 100 or our digital platform for further action. For more information, you can also refer to the following link https://easyfix.unifi.com.my/ to do your troubleshooting. This is a faster alternative to help solve the Unifi problem."

Just change telco la. Told you all already TM is having massive congestion in many parts of their network. Management do not want to upgrade.
Or should I say don't want to upgrade using own money.

Very generic answer,  no solution given
Time to leave them

Gonna love the fact that most people doesnt care or blame it on their own hardware
I would not even bother with getting the SWU plan if this is how the particular ISP is treating its customers
RM90, RM149 still having the same horrible routing issue that wont be fixed
Being cheap is not about the price, it is the attitude shakehead.gif

Unifi marketing department called
Claims my payment record is beautiful and they wanna give me a cheapo Samsung phone with a postpaid SIM (24 months contract) on discount. No extension or renewal for my broadband contract.

Terus rejected their offering🤣
1st, bad routing
2nd, I've seen so many users managed to get RM90 500mbps

will it be better this time? maxis counter offer with free 6 month + free 65" TV.

As someone who deeply regretted switching from Maxis to Unifi, dont
Unifi is extremely congested in the night, websites are slow to load
Take Maxis's offering instead

QUOTE(redlobsterpickle @ Oct 16 2025, 11:49 AM)
My wife complained that the wifi at home (running Unifi) is noticeably much slower than 4G/5G. Initially I was skeptical about it. I mean, fibre would usually yield lower latency than mobile data despite it being 5G.

After reading all these, I'm not surprised anymore. I've been on the same plan and payment for more than 5 years now without being offered any SWU.

Maybe it's time to switch to either Maxis or Astro but the infra would still share with TM hence would it have the same traffic/routing issue?

I'm guessing not as although shared last mile infra, routing is done independently, yes?
*
Yes on the routing
Few days ago users were complaining about Maxis having issues with Cloudflare
But they seems to fixed it today, according to Backtubi (https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3487634/+9680)
Personally, I have good experience with Maxis
With them for 2 years, 0 downtime
Routing better than Unifi
The only issue being they are quite stingy on giving out promo, usually only 24 months discount instead of something permanant
Still, highly recommended as they are willing to fix routing issues instead of acting dumb
