Hi. Like everyone else I am just waiting for the mini to go on sale. My plan is to use my 2020 27" iMac as the main display. I have tried using a video capture card dongle to connect my Macbook to the iMac as a trial but really found the resolution lacking and pales in comparison to the actual iMac display. How will it look like when I finally hook up the mini to it? Anyone has experience with the previous generation mac mini?

is this 5K display? I think some ppl would actually DIY it to become a full fledge monitor by adding a board to it. But if your imac still working it’s probably not worth it? Maybe can try Luna? Not sure if can use full 5k resolution or not. can search more about it.

I bought a USB c luna display dongle and the lag and resolution was poor. Was really disappointed by such an expensive purchase. What do mean by "adding a board"?

I am trying not to invest in another display monitor for the mini and furthermore my work station has limited space. I was hoping to alternate between using my iMac and the mini depending on the task I am doing. Duet is a software option right? No need to buy another dongle from them?

DUET is software. I use it on iPad as a monitor for my mac mini last time. It works really well. But have not tried if it possible for mac & mac. You can try research a bit. The app is not expensive.
There is few methods for connections. Wired different pricing, wireless different pricing also. But of course cable will be better as it's more stable and less latency.
Not sure about resolutions. For iPad looks great. I don't know why those youtuber is not doing any videos about this more than those luna, capture dongle..

I just checked the pricing for Duet. Comes up to about RM 735/year after 20% discount. In that range I may as well get a cheap monitor.
Oops my bad. It is one time payment. Sorry. Any lag when you use with your iPad?
I don't feel any lag on ipad. Latency is very good. U use with ipad magic keyboard and able to fully use with mac. trackpad and keyboard works perfect. Perfect portable combo with mac mini.
