Anyone have used Astropad's luna display with their mac mini? My plan is to get the new M4 mac mini and then use my 2020 intel imac as the main display.

Hi. Like everyone else I am just waiting for the mini to go on sale. My plan is to use my 2020 27" iMac as the main display. I have tried using a video capture card dongle to connect my Macbook to the iMac as a trial but really found the resolution lacking and pales in comparison to the actual iMac display. How will it look like when I finally hook up the mini to it? Anyone has experience with the previous generation mac mini?
is this 5K display? I think some ppl would actually DIY it to become a full fledge monitor by adding a board to it. But if your imac still working it’s probably not worth it? Maybe can try Luna? Not sure if can use full 5k resolution or not. can search more about it.
I bought a USB c luna display dongle and the lag and resolution was poor. Was really disappointed by such an expensive purchase. What do mean by "adding a board"?
I am trying not to invest in another display monitor for the mini and furthermore my work station has limited space. I was hoping to alternate between using my iMac and the mini depending on the task I am doing. Duet is a software option right? No need to buy another dongle from them?

DUET is software. I use it on iPad as a monitor for my mac mini last time. It works really well. But have not tried if it possible for mac & mac. You can try research a bit. The app is not expensive.
There is few methods for connections. Wired different pricing, wireless different pricing also. But of course cable will be better as it's more stable and less latency.
Not sure about resolutions. For iPad looks great. I don't know why those youtuber is not doing any videos about this more than those luna, capture dongle..
I just checked the pricing for Duet. Comes up to about RM 735/year after 20% discount. In that range I may as well get a cheap monitor.
Anyone knows how much a 2020 27" iMac (intel) is worth on the second hand market? It has 256 G of HD space. I may consider letting mine go since I am moving on to the M4 mac mini

2020 no value already. Apple trade in normally 3-5 years. more than 5 years no value. provided the ssd/storage lifespan still valid.
anyway, i got faulty macbook pro intel on display. still can use with external monitor /tv. Currently use at living room Use till die and throw away.
For the past few weeks I have been trying to use the iMac as a main display for my Macbook Pro. Of course using side car is the best option and the smoothest. However the Mac mini will have no built in display. I then tried using a dongle with 4K video capture card. Laggy and resolution is too poor. I have tried the luna display dongle, same issue. I have even tried using a wired connection with the luna display. All laggy except for side car.
dummy hdmi is something u plug in the hdmi port to trick the computer it has a monitor. So your sidecard would work when you have a main monitor. But you still need to set it up first to have sidecar runs automatically?
This sounds like what Luna display does. For Luna it’s usb c but the hdmi dummy it is hdmi instead
The first batch also haven't shipped, see no one saying there's has ship, I doubt can even get by next Tuesday (10/12). Probably will get by next Friday (13/12) for the early buyers.
Does anyone remember what time the launch was announced last Friday and how soon after people ordered?
Walk in today at Apple TRX and bought my first ever Mac Mini after they confirm that they just received their stock this morning. This is my first my venture into Mac OS. Got back and set them using my 4k tv, paired with Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Setup was easy not like windows as all of the item paired automatically. Just that I still got to learn all the basics regarding Mac operating system. Base model is enough for me. Planning to hook this mac mini to two display.
I hope you are not trolling but are you talking about the M4 Mac mini?
Was thinking directly going to Switch Gurney Plaza to buy one since I heard there are stock there but my M4 is still at preparing to ship. Not possible to cancel at this stage right?
