Means you need another mac. From past reviews of the mac studio, some swapping higher capacity to the mac studio and it refused to restore as well. Not sure if that has changed.
Too bad, these SSD market still dont have right now. Maybe previously due to it only applicable in MAC STUDIO which demand is not that much...but to mac mini, demand will be huge. easy swap.. but u need another M series mac to perform restore. Plus these SSD just Memory without controller.. Controller is inside M4...Market do not have these SSD yet. Changed already..you can check this video.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDFCurB3-0Q
So it’s doable but it’s not simple or you can even easily get the nand chip or the module. With mac mini launching and would definitely sell more. Hopefully these memory module will be made more and cheaper. This will make repairability easier since the SSD has finite of writes and with memory swapping, it would wear out faster as well.
why u want to do that? my m1 256gb storage - store OS and app External nvme 2TB - store data
Work as expected and 256GB can survive for 3 years+ without any issue. By doing this, original storage seldom do writing as only store OS and App. More read/write is on my external nvme. This increase the life span of storage also
Some apps have data that is stored on macOS system data right? Even you move the app to external ssd, the app data still store inside internal storage.
I run apps like Draw Things, even move the app to external, but the data still hides inside built in, same as ollama also. If can move those data to external, then would be good.
If you are running MacOS on external ssd, doesn't everything stores in external SSD?
I am watching this guy live streaming testing games on m4 base mac mini as well now. Seen a lot of games are performing quite well even it's running parallels
Cute mac pro mini

been running base model m1 since 4 years ago. no problem With m4, i will be huge jump M1-> M4 8GB -> 16GB RAM Storage - same. not an issue as i got nvme 2TB More ports USB C 2 monitor -> 3 monitor Big size -> small size
Will trade in when it is available
I upgraded m1 to m2. Don’t feel much difference but since can get edu price and selling price also not bad then upgrade. I think m2 to m4 also quite significant upgrade especially the 16GB because I wanna run LLM model. M2 8GB can only run 8b parameter model.
i think agak la..mini 7 also late around 2-3 week before arrived in malaysia.
iPad mini launched 23 oct in US, sirim approved 31st Oct. Here start selling I think around 6th Nov. Yeah about 2 weeks. Hopefully it's faster now because we have Apple Store in Malaysia. iPhone was first wave as well.
Let's see around 1 week after launched if we will see mac mini sirim approved or not.
no? Not enforced? I have unidays verified anyway. But I tried putting 2 same item in 1 order. seems ok. only didnt go through payment. if safe to order 2 will order it when mac mini launched.
i just checked at Switch store. according to them, they dont accept trade in for mac mini. Therefore if you would like to do trade in, may be can try TRX, Machine or online. May be some can advise if possible to trade in at TRX or machine?
I’m sure you can trade in at Apple store TRX.
No wonder I check trade in list of switch and don’t have mac mini.
This is somewhat a bad news if anyone was thinking if mac mini will sell more and we can get higher demand for the storage module to get the price down, nop. There's 2 different design and non interchangeable.
