QUOTE(belfong @ Jan 4 2025, 10:34 AM) While I really like the new Mac mini's size, I miss the ports of the previous Mac mini. I am currently running a M2 Pro and I have 4 USB-C and 2 USB-A ports. Say what you will but USB-A is still useful to me - I still have many USB-A peripherals - Sound Blaster Katana X speakers, Stream Deck, printer, fingerprint key. Sure, I can use a hub but sometimes, it is just so convenience to have it on the computer itself. USB A ports I only use for keyboard mouse, but that is through a hub. Now after upgrading, I use a USB C dock with 2 USB A and USB C port along with HDMI, sd card. Works great though only 10gbps. But I do lose 1 thunderbolt port. Only using 1 usb 4 device so still ok.

QUOTE(belfong @ Jan 4 2025, 05:19 PM) Once you connect 3 monitors into it, you will find that you don't have enough. Unless the monitor comes with a hub. Then maybe, still ok. I think there is no issue here. 1 HDMI to 1 monitor, another USB-C to monitor if the monitor supports it, 2nd USB-C connects my hub has HDMI to another monitor so a total of 3 monitors. 1 more TB4 port for a USB4 enclosure and my dock includes 1 USB-C, 2 USB-A. Also, the front now has 2 USB-C 10Gbps ports. Unless you have so many TB4 devices, then you should invest in a TB4 dock. Sometimes there is no way to cheap out.

QUOTE(razkal @ Jan 14 2025, 05:15 PM) Wow is that even possible. I need to know how to this. I am using an app called Duet. With wired connection and it will turn iPad into monitor. Touch screen also possible. The only down side is you will have to automatically login to the dekstop.

QUOTE(shyan90's @ Feb 22 2025, 10:12 PM) midnight shopping very dangerous...i tot you say rather go for ram then SSD..hahah That's when you're customizing your mac before checkout. 2TB is RM3400 from Apple.... now around 800++... I think ok lo. Seller ship very fast... already ship before I can think more. So biting the bullet.

QUOTE(shyan90's @ Feb 22 2025, 10:51 PM) Haha..is ok..so far how was the review on M4? I haven't pull my trigger yet...but seems like everywhere has ready stock now. Loving it more than when I was using M1 and M2 mac mini. Using it as portable too sometimes. Won't go wrong with base model.

QUOTE(ericlaiys @ Feb 28 2025, 06:37 PM) how was the performance? changed before on macbook but poor performance compare to original Haven’t restore macOS . Need go to friend house later to do it. Customer reviews shows around 3200MB/s. Faster than stock 256GB but not as fast as Apple 2TB. I would think Apple 2TB can reach 4000MB/s. Will update after restore

QUOTE(adrive @ Mar 5 2025, 11:25 PM) Is it worth using Mac mini m4 as dedicated desktop and play steam games ? what games do you play? Native steam games for macOS isn't many. If you want to run over parallel, some games are not smooth. I tried COunter Strike 2.. couldnt get it to run smooth. I play some epic games like Rocket league and it ran so smooth. Batman also ran smooth.

QUOTE(firdausbhari @ May 27 2025, 12:45 PM) the culprit for overheat is the chipset. USB4 ASMedia or Intel JH can get quite hot for long run. Your SSD can operate up to 85c. But when your overall PCB gets hot, it will affect the SSD as well. Every 10gbps enclosure runs cool nevertheless. Please do research before jumping to conclusion. QUOTE(shyan90's @ May 27 2025, 01:51 PM) Dunno that is why ask here. What do you mean please do research before jumping to conclusion? Being that small size, surely the temp will be higher regardless 10gbps or not. I've used so many different portable SSD including 10gbps, 40gbps USB4 in different size. Small ones are HOT. They even get disconnected because overheats.
