Yup, Nikkor 105 VR is a very good lens for both potrait and macro and xandman is very happy with combination of his D40+Nikkor 105VR!
Cheaper option for prime lens is Sigma 30mm f/1.4 which cost about RM1.5k, wide-angle prime lens for landscape, group photo and also full body or probably half-body potrait shooting.
If budget constraint, just get the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8, you'll get more than its worth; big aperture, cheap prime lens which sharper compared to zoom lens and also can train your eye in manual focusing!

if want easier Nikkor 18-200 or can try Tamron 18-250

the best is 12-24, 24-70, 70-200

bcoz definition of perfect depends on each user...

Anyone can racun me .. to get D40 instead of K100D Super or 350D.. ppl are discouraging me to get D40...

only prob is no af motor on the body... the rest is all good...

just go and get nikon D40 already. It seems you've made up your mind. Don't mind these people, it's not like you gonna give them your camera. It's you who want to use it. I've always impressed with Nikon dslr colors.

to get the racun...all u need to do is get a hold of all 3 cameras
then u'll know...y d40 is the best
i m not sure bout k100d...but 350d feels like a toy in my hands...so cheap feeling...=)
