ezralimm,
Ya know at first what you said seemed to make alot of sense. Why spend 8-9k on one mac notebook when u can spend on a mac notebook and a pc?
After some thinking however, I realized, whats the point of getting a mac if all im going to use it for are simple stuff like surfing?? might as well get a pc notebook that can save even more of my costs.
The main reason I'm getting a mac is because its the standard in the industry in my field now (multimedia). And a macbook with its average specs just won't take the processing abuse it will be going through (video editing, 3D rendering... bla bla bla).
If im going to spend that much on a mac, I'm going to take full advantage and make full use of it. But of course thats just me, maybe your solution may be just the right one for someone else out there.
I totally agree.
If everyone in your field is using final cut, it's probably a good idea to get a mac.
But do note that for RM9k you could also get a very very high end PC.
With 10,000rpm Raptor HDDs for loading and for caching,
More than 1TB of space,
4GB ram
...and dual core2duo's.
For simple stuff like surfing, apple's are the best IMO.
Surfing on my small 12" 1Ghz ibook G4 is nicer than surfing on my windows notebook (with attached 1600x1200 22" screen!)
why?
1) Expose
2) expose
3) expose
4) reliability. browser doesnt crash as much. Java implementation very solid.

ezralimm: your post made a lot of sense to me. I don't do much video rendering and the such, getting such an expensive notebook is quite a waste of money for me. For that, I rather get the black MB. With the new Santa Rosa version and new gfx card (which I heard is better than the GMA950), it's a better choice for my current situation

just slap in more RAM and I should be golden.
tf: yeah man, if you're in multimedia go for the MBP instead. Wanna get it together and chance for a discount?

(highly doubt so though)
oh, you're into multimedia.
In that case, get the MB and a nice BIG screen to go with it. A colour calibration tool is also a must.
Shop around a little.
Im using a plain jane Samsung 226bw right now.
Colour accuracy and contrast of desktop monitors in general compared to notebooks is so so so much better. (that's the reason i got it in the first place, for photo editing)
