I was planning to get an MBP before they announce Leopard. But now since they launched it, I heard news that Apple is releasing a better version of MBP to accommodate Leopard.

So the question is, is it true that Apple is launching a new version of MBP? Because with all the new features in Leopard, I'm afraid that the current MBP will not be powerful enough for the future programs of Leopard.

I'm planning to buy it with my own money and this machine will be my only laptop to use till..maybe 6 or 7 years down the road so I gotta make sure with you guys biggrin.gif

6-7 years is a loooooong time. I suggest you buy a Macbook instead of a MBP, then buy a new Macbook in 3 years. Price wise it's about the same, but you get a decent new Mac in ~3 years when the next OS is out.

Go read up Leopard reviews btw, most people said it's not a must have upgrade.

I wanted to do this as well..but..hmm I forgot what was the reason that made me abandon this plan.

Let me go look around tongue.gif

edit:
Just remembered, MB doesn't have a graphics card that doesn't share memory but MBP does :\

If you can wait, wait till MacWorld next year which is more likely the next update of MBP line (with new Intel processor)

I just got mine last week. now installing Leopard. hehe

just keep in mind that OS X is not like Windows. I'm currently using Leopard on my 2 year old Powerbook (PPC @ 1.67Ghz), and it works fine just like it did when I was using Tiger before.

To put things into perspective, I'm running Leopard on a 12" Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz. I know someone who's running it on an iBook, forgot CPU speed but less than mine (1.5Ghz PPC). Know a few more others whose Macs came preinstalled with Panther (10.3) and they're all running 10.5 all fine and dandy now, too.

If we both run Leopard just fine and dandy and snappy, what more worry about MBP not being powerful enough for Leopard and future releases of OSX. If you're running a PowerPC mac then I might understand your worry, but MBP? Good for another 6 more years and 3-4 more OS updates. Seriously.

Dude u asked the exact question I' have been considering for the past few days now.

I have heard rumors of a new penryn processor that will be used by apple. And new macs integrating the new processors may be launched as early as Jan 2008.

Now I can wait, but not for too long as I can only wait till Feb 2008 when I will be leaving Malaysia. I'd prefer to get my MBP by then..

I have no idea if I should wait or not, if the new MBPs dont release by then... my waiting will be all in vain.. =.=...

*sigh*

Why not ask the shop to bundle the upgrade for free .. don't think the shop really mind to just spend RM39 as give away to clear up their current stock .. haggle and most probably you'll get the upgrade FOC (and MBP is not cheap either biggrin.gif).

Haha djspinnet, your post is exactly what I'm looking for.

You see, I'm a PC user since..ever. And I was thinking based on the mentality of XP --> Vista and how much resource that Vista is eating now. So I was quick to judge Leopard's resource eating "habit".

TF: If whatever you said is true, then I don't mind waiting for Jan08 as well. Just a couple of months to go only anyway. Hopefully that rumour you heard is real smile.gif

The news about Penryn chips is very tempting. Now that we are all using 65nm type, which produce lots of heat if compared to the speculated 45nm type, which is Penryn, which uses different type of technology that makes the electric stays at the right place and reduce the unnecessary heat.

45nm is coming out next year. but i think it will take a while for Apple to include it in their machine. and it will take a while before they are satisfied with testing it with Macbook. 35nm is coming out around next year too. which is even smaller and better.

My point is, buy if you want. Dont wait, Macbook pro line is among the best already. I doubt you only want to keep abreast with technology? because the technology improve as the clock tick. unlike other brand, Mac can at least stay fresh and up to date for as much as 5 years. and people wont say your mac is outdate.

5 years is like 1825 days, divide it with RM 4999. That will be around RM3 per day for 5 years time. Sounds like a good deal for me. Even if i go to cafe everyday, i would spend more than that. (of course i dont, anymore)

Just pray it wont spoil. biggrin.gif

so why dont you wait for a few weeks, and see.
anyhow, i perfer you buy your mac later because all mac will come with leopard, which is good.

shoguniphicus: RM4999? MBP so cheap back in Malaysia? Can you help me confirm the price of both the 15inch MBP? Cause over here it's RM8000 onwards (even after education discount :\) edit: nvm, I saw the price thread. Hmm..RM7499, is that before or after student discount?

I realise too that you can never get in front of the queue in terms of technological advancement, but maybe I can just get a few places in front so that I can get a better version one for the same price. And also to not kick myself in the arse later when they release a better version of MBP tongue.gif

kokyun: The first link you provided is out of date, but the second one is current. I'll wait till 6th Nov and see biggrin.gif

I'm not too worried about Apple not shipping MBP with Leopard cause all Macs in Aussie comes with Leopard if you purchase after 26th Oct.

ow my bad, i didnt really read the poster's post correectly. Yea you are right. with installment that add on about 3%, it will end up 8000+. i am just so so sorry.

Because i read the previous and previous posters, they only mention macbook and macbook and kinda messed up with other posts.

i got mine at 8000+ too.

The Rm7499 is for promotion when the second generation mbp about to come out. now the standard price would be 7799. i supposed.
