I was planning to get an MBP before they announce Leopard. But now since they launched it, I heard news that Apple is releasing a better version of MBP to accommodate Leopard.

So the question is, is it true that Apple is launching a new version of MBP? Because with all the new features in Leopard, I'm afraid that the current MBP will not be powerful enough for the future programs of Leopard.

I'm planning to buy it with my own money and this machine will be my only laptop to use till..maybe 6 or 7 years down the road so I gotta make sure with you guys biggrin.gif

6-7 years is a loooooong time. I suggest you buy a Macbook instead of a MBP, then buy a new Macbook in 3 years. Price wise it's about the same, but you get a decent new Mac in ~3 years when the next OS is out.

Go read up Leopard reviews btw, most people said it's not a must have upgrade.

I wanted to do this as well..but..hmm I forgot what was the reason that made me abandon this plan.

Let me go look around tongue.gif

edit:
Just remembered, MB doesn't have a graphics card that doesn't share memory but MBP does :\

Haha djspinnet, your post is exactly what I'm looking for.

You see, I'm a PC user since..ever. And I was thinking based on the mentality of XP --> Vista and how much resource that Vista is eating now. So I was quick to judge Leopard's resource eating "habit".

TF: If whatever you said is true, then I don't mind waiting for Jan08 as well. Just a couple of months to go only anyway. Hopefully that rumour you heard is real smile.gif

shoguniphicus: RM4999? MBP so cheap back in Malaysia? Can you help me confirm the price of both the 15inch MBP? Cause over here it's RM8000 onwards (even after education discount :\) edit: nvm, I saw the price thread. Hmm..RM7499, is that before or after student discount?

I realise too that you can never get in front of the queue in terms of technological advancement, but maybe I can just get a few places in front so that I can get a better version one for the same price. And also to not kick myself in the arse later when they release a better version of MBP tongue.gif

kokyun: The first link you provided is out of date, but the second one is current. I'll wait till 6th Nov and see biggrin.gif

I'm not too worried about Apple not shipping MBP with Leopard cause all Macs in Aussie comes with Leopard if you purchase after 26th Oct.

ow my bad, i didnt really read the poster's post correectly. Yea you are right. with installment that add on about 3%, it will end up 8000+. i am just so so sorry.

Because i read the previous and previous posters, they only mention macbook and macbook and kinda messed up with other posts.

i got mine at 8000+ too.

The Rm7499 is for promotion when the second generation mbp about to come out. now the standard price would be 7799. i supposed.

Boo tongue.gif

No harm though, RM7799 is still a pretty neat price to pay. With this Toshiba I'm using is already nearly 5 years, with an MBP, I expect at least 6 without problems (hopefully). So that'll be like RM3.50 a day tongue.gif

Or maybe I should ask a friend who studies in the US to help me buy or something? biggrin.gif It's cheaper by nearly a thousand bucks. But will the warranty work in Malaysia or Aust?

tinkerbel: Yeah that's what I was thinking too tongue.gif But I better double check with Apple just to make sure biggrin.gif

kokyun: Oh..my..god..if that is true, it's only 12 days away! *crosses fingers, toes, every strand of hair on my head and everything that is crossable*

Hmm..somehow I still am sceptical that this upgrade for the MBP isn't the real thing yet..more of like, an "appetizer" if you know what I mean tongue.gif

No one focus on MBP btw..  rolleyes.gif Or only a few ppl. Ntg to upgrade for MBP. Why? It already equipped with latest hardware component. Mobile Penryn should be somewhere Feb/Mar 2008.  wink.gif

Yeah true. MBP's hardware is top of the line currently, even if there is an upgrade it would take a long time for it to happen.

yawhong: Next year? Can't wait that long :\ My Toshiba is dying soon, I might as well take this opportunity and get myself an MBP. I'll most probably get it in PIKOM's PC Fair this coming Dec and see what they can throw in together. Maybe a nano? tongue.gif Haha wishful thinking here..

isn't there is rumour bout a newly-designed mac book pro? too bad if u buy too early and miss it...

if pikom pc fair this dec, and apple is selling cheap with lots of freebies, then u shud expect something new from apple a few weeks after.
*
It's people's comments like these makes me wanna wait longer sad.gif

I've decided la, normally anything that is newly design have flaws and would take lots of trips to Apple store to fix it. So I decided to actually buy the current MBP regardless of the new design smile.gif

12" MB? Haha, that would be cute to own one. Nah, I prefer not to wait. Planning to get one on PIKOM's PC Fair in KLCC in Dec. smile.gif

ezralimm: your post made a lot of sense to me. I don't do much video rendering and the such, getting such an expensive notebook is quite a waste of money for me. For that, I rather get the black MB. With the new Santa Rosa version and new gfx card (which I heard is better than the GMA950), it's a better choice for my current situation smile.gif just slap in more RAM and I should be golden.

tf: yeah man, if you're in multimedia go for the MBP instead. Wanna get it together and chance for a discount? tongue.gif (highly doubt so though)

After much consideration, I plan to ask my friend in the States to help me purchase a black MB and send it over here by UPS smile.gif

That way, I still manage to save around RM600. I could certainly use that to upgrade my RAM and get a sleeve for it.

Btw, apart from the adapter that is using a different head, is there any other differences from US Macbooks and Malaysia ones? Anyone knows the price for a new adapter?

Ahh, as I was closing the deal with my friend to help me purchase the MB I got quite unsure whether the MB will work in Malaysia.

First of all, there is the voltage and wattage difference. Will the adapter work with ours?

All in all, are there anything to look out for that I missed out? I don't wanna buy an MB from the US only to find out it doesn't work here or worse; potentially fries the MB sad.gif

Thanks biggrin.gif
