Use mild steel but spec thicker material. Still cheaper than SS.

Assuming SS is stronger than mild steel is wrong. The strength depends on the section size, thickness and also design of the grill.

Also, make sure the sections are fully welded to ensure strength. Some fabricators just spot weld and tell you one inci length of weld can tahan 2000kg. This really tipu wan.

good quality ss is ultimate one off solution, repainting will be never ending labor in the future...

I would rather pay once and have peace of mind until my last breath......if only more things can be arranged like this then life would be more carefree and wonderful

SS gate is very noisy when you try to put padlock. But I suppose that's also an advantage at night when someone tries to break into the house via grills or gate.

If the area you put the grill far from any rainwater splash or environment hazard, a few mm thickness aluminium is also good to last for very long time. It is just most people like metal shiny appearance but aluminium can't afford be consistent be shiny as the oxidize aluminium is the metal core protection.

Bear in mind, 15 yrs later mild steel grill maybe more expensive than the stainless steel price now, with much less quality too

Doubt can install SS grill without any paint if stay in condo coz you would need to follow JMB paint rules...unless JMB close one eye

Stainless Steel mostly comes from China. Even if they said 304, some is not really 304 but hard to distinguish. Good shops normally stick to specific supplier to maintain quality. Hard to trust other cheaper suppliers for them. This was told to me by the workshop.

I think the price for TS and the door size probably about right nowadays. Probably 5 years ago was about 1.5k, perhaps?
