Govt to use data from depts, agencies amid low registration in Padu

The government will utilise data collected from 217 departments and agencies for government-related programmes, including targeted subsidies, to rectify the low registration rate with the Central Database Hub (Padu), says communications minister Fahmi Fadzil.

The government spokesman noted, when it was pointed out by a reporter, that as of Feb 15, the number of people who had updated their information in the Padu system was 3.43 million, equivalent to only 10% of the country’s population.

what's more eye catching is this -

On Monday, Lim Chee Han, a policy researcher for the non-profit organisation Third World Network, said the low number of registrants was not due to a lack of information on Padu, but the difficulty in persuading people, especially those from the T20 and M40 income groups who know they are not eligible for targeted subsidies, to sign up.

if t20 and m40 open heartedly forgo subsidy then a lot of billions saved. i think it was in the news how much petrol subsidy is actually utilized by t20 and m40.

regardless, it just means less accurate data will be used to distribute subsidy.

Contrary to what was quoted, I doubt they will be able to extract data from epf.

How does usage of these data comply with PDPA ?

As someone who’s based overseas, never had an EPF account in Malaysia, not subject to LHDN taxes, never used any petrol subsidies from Malaysia (since Singaporean registered cars don’t qualify for RON95) and never used KKM subsidies or any other subsidy for that matter, I’m not registering for PADU. And I won’t be surprised if the rest of the 1.86 million Malaysian diaspora working in Singapore, Australia or the UK or US feel the same way about PADU as well.

if the data is with the gomen stat bodies, think they can use it. Banks and Bursa/CDS data probably cannot, illegal to use w/o owner consent.
with little work, little budget, menteri was hoping u will easily volunteer P&C data - not a good idea for a start.

“Existing databases by the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) should already fill most of the necessary information requested by Padu ,” it said, citing that under EPF, 15.7 million members, which consists of formal employers, employees, and self-employed individuals, contain details about the employment and income of these individuals.
On top of that, the information gathered by LHDN in the Rahmah Cash Assistance Scheme (STR) programme covers 8.2 million individuals, including information about household members, employment status and self-reported income.
“These two databases, coupled with other existing information collected by various government departments, should be merged to form the basis of the Padu system.

likely quite some work, money to spend plus a wish to get u to volunteer private data.

Thank you. And since I have no intention of availing myself to the subsidies, I guess I’ll just maintain status quo for now

I'm now planning to buy a new car but I won't be signing the HP agreement any time soon since there is waiting time of at least 3 months

I guess I can leave the loan amount blank by March?

FYI only

PDPA is not applicable to Federal & State Government

2 countries have this exemption stated in their PDPA, MY and SG
