We didnāt dare to contradict him because we were afraid that getting up so early would be a waste of time. I read this in Cantonese accentTis like reading rempit malay... rempit english? "Then when I asked what materials I needed to prepare, why didn't I say yes? Divorce certificate and custody certificate?ā Child is under 18 years old.... need parental consent in passport application. Birth certificate, father/mother signature etc. |

This is on you bro.. this is not about racism or what.
If you are Malaysian, you need to be able to speak Malay language, dont need to be fluent (everyone or that officer will understand) but if you can't communicate in Malay, it is very bad example for yor children. This is only applicable if you are tourist only |

It's impressive u can avoid using Malay when u are staying in Malaysia permanently.
More effort is required to be not know BM than to just learn some basic BM. You do not have the right mindset in life. Ever heard about life is a never ending learning journey. Be honest with yourself, how did u do it (avoiding BM totally), why? |

QUOTE(wasime @ Nov 30 2023, 01:45 PM) I was insulted once again in my life by doing passportš„ŗ is this your true story or you copy paste from somewhere else?š¢Today I want to share with you how miserable it is for people who cannot speak Malay in Malaysiaš This is the second time I was insulted in UTC Johor! Last time it was me who was insulted, this time it was my daughter, both in the same place! Today I took my daughter to UTC Johor (Polow branch) to renew her passport. We are both Malaysian citizens, but we have been studying in Singapore since childhood (my daughter and I are the same), so we are not very fluent in Malay, but we are educated and polite. And respect still understands! First of all, I got there around 8 o'clock. I had to sit outside and wait before I went in to get the number. I waited for about an hour before I could go in and get the number. We arrived around 9 o'clock. I happily went in and queued up to get the number, and then we arrived. , there was a man serving us at the service desk. Because I really donāt speak Malay very well, I might ask in English when I opened my mouth. The male service staff asked me how old my daughter was? My daughter answered him: 14 years old (answered in English). He looked at my daughter and said: "How do you say 14 years old in Malay? He told my daughter to speak Malay! This is Malaysia, are you a Malaysian? You are Malaysian People must speak Malay!" His tone was very fierce, and then he continued to talk about me and my daughter: "Do you know this is Malaysia? You don't know Malay? It is very important to speak Malay when going abroad to Taiwan (I was suddenly very scaredš°), You still canāt speak it? Are you a PR? PR or a Malaysian citizen. You canāt speak Malay with a Malaysian IC. If you canāt speak Malay, you can consider becoming a Singaporean citizen! Not in Malaysia! English is not spoken here!ā (I tried to explain: Sorry abang, we studied in Singapore since we were young, so we really donāt understand... Before he finished speaking, he started to curse again: And then? Do you still want to do it? If you donāt want to do it, you can leave immediately. !š„I was really helpless at the moment, but I held it inš„tears were about to flow outš£) We, mother and daughter, stood there and scolded him stupidly... We didnāt dare to contradict him because we were afraid that getting up so early would be a waste of time. time, and then I said to him in a low voice: Sorry, we really have to renew our passports. Can you give me your number? He had a very unhappy face and gave me his number with a very unhappy attitude. . We found a seat awkwardly and sat downš I'm wondering why you bully people like this? Do we deserve to be insulted like this because we donāt know Malay? Will he be caught by the police? This is the second time I have been to this UTC and I was scolded for not speaking Malay! After waiting for about 30 minutes, we finally arrived, and what followed was another wonderful momentš There was a woman at the counter, and she thought she was more polite. As a result, my daughter was taught Malay. She also told her how old she was, her name, her motherās name, and her fatherās name in Malay. Since my daughter was very young, I She and her father were divorced, so I told the counter girl: Sorry, I am divorced, so my daughter has been with me since she was a child. I donāt know her fatherās nameš¤·š»āāļøā¦Iām sorry! Then came the problemš The woman asked me: Do you have the divorce certificate? Is the child with you? So is there proof of child custody? (Suddenly I was even more annoyedšØ) I asked her: "Do I need these when I come to renew my passport? But why didn't I need these when I helped my daughter make a passport for the first time last time? Then when I asked what materials I needed to prepare, why didn't I say yes? Divorce certificate and custody certificate? In the end, she only answered me: Now the SOP has changed, these documents are needed!š£ I didnāt argue with her, after all, I donāt know Malayš I said I was sorry that I didnāt bring it, and she said directly: I didnāt bring it. ?Canāt do it! (I feel really fucking helpless in my heart) She didnāt let us do it, so we left helplessly) I really donāt understand why these people are so discriminatory towards us who donāt speak Malay! I didnāt mean it, I didnāt make things difficult, and I asked politely, but as a result, I was bullied for my kindness! ā¼ ļøRemind everyone who does not speak Malay to go to such a place to find someone who can speak Malay to accompany you! Don't let these people ruin the mood of a beautiful day like ours 7 a.m. 8 a.m.ā¼ ļøReally disappointed and sadš«š«š« Ending: In the end, I found a friend for help (someone who knew the department) and finally succeeded in getting the passportāš»I also bought a bag of rice for him to eat and thanked him for his helpš„¹ So what is the so-called need for a divorce certificate and custody certificate? They are just making things difficult for us and not letting us do it! There are so many people in the world who fart! Wait until God takes you! |

QUOTE(AbbyCom @ Nov 30 2023, 02:00 PM) I kinda disagree, my privileges as a Malaysian are not determined by whether I know BM or not, if I am a citizen, then I should be able to get a passport, an IC, etc. Do IRB tax me based on my knowledge of BM (no because the tax laws are not made like that, same argument - is passport/IC eligibility based on mastery of BM or based on citizenship/PR status?)? If govt can tax me, then govt should provide services due to me as a taxpayer and citizen. QUOTE Article 16 Subject to Clause (9), the Federal Government may, upon application made by any person of or over the age of twenty-one years who is not a citizen, grant a certificate of naturalization to that person if satisfied - (a) that - (i) he is resided in the Federation for the required periods and intends, if the certificate is granted, to do so permanently; (ii) (Repealed). (b) that he is of good character; and © that he has an adequate knowledge of the Malay language. http://www.commonlii.org/my/legis/const/1957/3.html |
