Recently I have problem with my W850i.
Sometimes when I want to activate the phone from Standby mode, what I get is White Screen. But, I know that the phone is still functioning, not jam, I can still receive message in White Screen. The White Screen will disappear after I leave it at Standby mode again. This problem occurs quite often. And another thing is that the color of the screen sometimes show up weird mixture, messed-up color.
Anyone knows what is the reason behind this?

QUOTE(ssyy @ Nov 14 2008, 11:01 AM) bought in jan 07. in oct 07, ribbon faulty. charged about RM150 for that. 2 weeks later spoil again, fixed FOC. then in feb 08, ribbon faulty again. fixed at about RM120. then few weeks later, speaker problems, charger/headphone plug cannot click, auto-off sometimes during sliding, front camera faulty (obviously due to faulty ribbon). tired of repairing. (in between got repair but cost not more than 100..) finally, changed to other phone but still keeping lovely w850i .. Oh my, that is some W850i you've got there! Sorry to hear that, bro.

Erm, my sister going to buy a second hand W850i with price RM430, package includes walkman handsfree, charger, and usb cable. And that W850i is from a known relative one, and he say can give 1 month warranty on that second hand phone while normally only 1 week for a second hand phone. That phone is used by him and now he is going to sell it because want to buy C902.
And is it the latest firmware for W850i is R1KC001?
And want to ask also, what is the things at the left top side of w850i? It looks like a bulb, but it wont light up at all, wat was that actually?

The latest firmeware should be R1KG001, which is release on the 2007-Apr-18. The transparent-like bulb thingy located on the top part of the phone, is the light sensor, which control the brightness of the phone LCD. Hmm... I'm also thinking of selling out my white W850i which i use it for almost 1.5 years. But can't really sell it with a price that I am satisfy with.

Maybe you can ask around the phone shop and see how much if you want to trade in a w850i. Because from what I can see within the Garage Sales in this website, some even selling for RM300++ only. If you have a lot of thingy to copy between the phone and your PC, then suggest USB cable is a "must", as the original cable costs quite expensive. Like myself, I always transfering files in and out. Otherwise, you will end up pulling the memory card out from the phone and use a memory card reader to transfer file. Either way is ok, but pulling the card in and out too much, scare will spoil the card slot on the phone. This post has been edited by ckshieh: Dec 12 2008, 05:56 PM

Proud (ex)owner of w850i!
Well, my precious w850 got stolen this evening and I was not aware about this thread until I surfed the forum for recommendations for new phones. Ahhh... what a heartbreak to loose such a good phone!
For those who are hesitant on buying w850, please read.
Firstly, w850 is the ONLY phone I did not regret buying. It gives no problem at all to me, and the design is just simply beautiful yet smart. I like how their plastic cover does not feel cheap at all, and how attractive is their walkman orange light.
Plus, the common misconception is that the d-pad is hard to use. I can assure you, the D-Pad is one of the best that I've used. It's really innovative to have such small buttons, but it works, trust me. Just press it using your thumb's meat, not the fingernail! I got used to it just within a few days and it was really really nice to use. It feels very secure because you need a little pressure to press it, but not too much to be inconvenient.
The only downside of this phone I would say is the camera. I've not previously owned a camera phone before so I do not know how would other camera phones fare compared to w850. Nevertheless, it was stated in many reviews that it wasn't quite good. Sure it takes pictures, but the lack of zoom and also due to certain reasons you need to make sure the phone is very close to an object so that the object looks big enough in the picture.
The music quality is awesome, there's nothing to say about it. Just pure awesomeness topped with awesomesauce.
I just fell in love with this phone the first time I saw it when I was looking through phones in mobile88. This was like THE phone to get. And I finally got it. Once again, I simply love the elegant, yet practical and smart design. I'm very amazed at how smartly they have design this phone that the overall feel feels so perfect.
Proud owner of Sony Ericsson w850i since Feb 2006 - Dec 16th 2008. Bought it at AP Price of RM1300, I wonder why so many are paying more at the same date of purchase as me?

Getting Started

damn, my phone just went swimming under the sea in port dickson yesterday... after saving it from water and waiting for it to dry, my phone comes out funny sounds like bubbles. Now my sliding area (slide up and down) becomes very hard and tough to slide it, not so smooth anymore. My phone managed to be ON, but ALL the buttons seems to corrupt. Eg : I pressed number 2 once, and the screen shows 2345. In current situation I cant use my phone , since i cant operate it at all. What should i do? I still have the 1 year warranty, yet my phone is AP, not ori... >_< if fixing, where and how much it would be? Thanks in advance.
