This is getting out of topic...BTW, I think the RM7k does include some widescreen LCD in the equation no? And digital speakers, Razer keyboards and mouse...etc. etc...

My suggestion is to get a vanilla HD3870 - from whatever brand that you trust - then get a HR03GT and a fan. It may cost much more but at least, it is a lot cooler (up to 25°C cooler in some cases) and you are sure to have a good time OC-ing.

I don't see the point of getting more than 2 GC. Even 2 is already overkill. Getting one is easy to be sold later for upgrade, but getting more than that, will be much harder. Then again, there are so many CF and SLI affeciandos here in LYN. I would rather save that money for future upgrades or upgrades to other parts of my PC.

QUOTE(nles @ Jan 3 2008, 03:29 PM) It's possible. Just don't use really big fans...and hopefully your northbridge heatsink is not big ones.QUOTE(choyster @ Jan 3 2008, 03:33 PM) Thermalright...not ThermalTake. Expensive yes, but performance is unquestionable...but it's not the best bang for the buck. |

QUOTE(nles @ Jan 4 2008, 12:26 AM) recommendation on crossfire motherboard? Asus P5E is not bad. Maximus Formula is good. They have almost identical performance.Gigabyte x38-dq6 and abit quadGT looks weak. left Asus p5e/maximus formula and DFI X38-T2R not to forget Foxconn X38A. QUOTE(jimmydotnet @ Jan 4 2008, 12:27 AM) im just thinkin issit possible the 8800gt win becoz of the dx10?? how bout compare hd3870 with dx10.1 and 8800gt with dx10...which one is better?? What do you mean which one is better? In terms of what? FPS? Image Quality? Thermal production? OC-ing? |

Let's see what the IceQ3 version has to offer. Hope it comes with BIOS fix as well.

Got my HIS HD3870...First ATI card I've got ever since I started building my own PC with a GeForce 256. Setting is 885MHz core and 1350MHz (2700MHz DDR) memory at the moment. Still on stock cooling. Fan is extremely loud at 100%...so I set it at 75% (it reads 74% somehow...). Temperature at load is astoundingly high at 70+°C. Plays Bioshock very smoothly at the moment. Still optimizing the settings though...Will wait for the HR-03GT for further overclocking and optimizing.

QUOTE(TheTraffic @ Jan 9 2008, 08:52 PM) Wouldn't that void the warranty? i mean changing the stock cooler into others?... Yes it will void the warranty. But the lower the temperature, the more you can overclock...up to a certain limit. If the stock one is ok and does not give any heat prob... then why should we change it just to see some decrease in temp? QUOTE(i.T blur @ Jan 9 2008, 08:55 PM) Can you google up all the benchmarks around the web? HD3870 stock does not beat 8800GT stock. |

The power units Odin GT are more advanced as they come with monitoring programme that is able to control the basic power unit parameters, with four temperature sensor elements and fan speed control. The Odin pro has the possibility to change its fan illumination colour.

QUOTE(kalakatu @ Jan 10 2008, 07:07 AM) morning guys..im thinking of joining the dark side of HD3850 series soon Think wisely man. You sure you want to get a 256MB version? It's seriously crippled against 512MB.since my budget wont allow me to go higher than RM600, i can just stick to the 256MB DDR3 version okay, which shop at lyp offered the most cheapest HD3850 card? and which brand is the best to be purchased? |

That's kind of hard to achieve with his processor...even quad core extreme and vga pencil mod...
