This seems like a plan in direct response to U Mobile's U Home 5G plan

If it's truly "unlimited" then it could be considered since everyone is riding on DNB
(Gotta check the fine print in the TnC)

However 5G coverage in this case would be quite important as there's only 100gb quota for that
Where as U Mobile has it all sharing the 1000GB

As for hightechgadgets8 you can refer to the U Home 5G thread
There are some cheap ones around rm700 or so, performance will vary but the discussion about which is the best is over there
Most seen to suggest 3/EE UK rebranded Zyxel modems

How's the speed test for the cheaper modems? Tempted to get this plan if truly unlimited and uncapped speed. Currently testing yes SIM in my phone will get around 600-700mbps. If that speed for 58/mth with modem is a real bargain compared to unifi

Good more 5G providers come out with fixed line SIM only plans will shake up the fibre fixed line providers.
Working classes will find them more useful and cost effective than continue paying RM105 for a slow outdated 30M plan such as Maxis.

RM58/68 for a line in excess of 500M-1Gbps, if you're bachelor at work who only spends time at home on weekends/public holidays fixed line broadband plans are waste of money.

If those fixed fibre provider ISPS still think they are in honeymoon, if nothing is done soon many will be leaving fibre broadband soon. Just like in many countries such as Japan, Korea and US.

5G seems to be more popular nowadays than fibre broadband. So much faster to setup, no contract if bring in own equipment and more mobility.

Could be better if use Snapdragon/Mediatek chipset based modems.

Avoid those unheard and less popular ones such as Unisoc.

I have both U & Y simcards in the same phone.

Both 5G signal full bar when idle. But Y has a higher tendency of switching to 4G when data is running.

However even when the sign is 4G, the download speed is still 20mb/s (that's over 150Mbps). So I'm also not sure whether it's 4G or 5G that's runnning.

RM68 is still way cheaper than the miserable 30M Fibre broadband which I'm paying now for RM99 with 6% tax = RM105 a month for the past 5 years+

True to yes behavior in phone
Plus, yes would disconnect the internet connection for a while after heavy download, using phone as hotspot.
However dunno if such behavior exist with this new package and using in a 5g router.
Waiting for anyone to try and report.

Does it mean if I continue subscribing to home fixed fibre 30M every month paying faithfully but only utilizing <100GB a month a waste of money? laugh.gif

Only use it mostly on weekends and just a few hours at night after returning form work to surf news, download a few gigs occasionally and watch tv box? laugh.gif

Bad experience with them. Dishonest with their throttling method last time. Use their 100GB 4G Postpaid plan which didn't mentioned can be utilized on any device place it in a modem. At first works like charm using it in USB modem. Then few months later found why my usual speeds 20-30Mbps why suddenly only 1Mbps?

Call them up the idiot operator says my device is not in their supported equipment list and they've upgraded to the new 5G network.

You should check their t&c, last time I read it it's only applicable when cannot connect and used quota less than 10GB, with YTL cunning customer service, they will trick and lock you with the contract not letting you leave.

I’m using ip 12 pro to test, speedtest managed to get 800-900mbps most of the time. Just wondering the modem is capable to get same or higher speed.
Thinking to buy seperate modem and subscribe Flexi instead.

Been a U98/UHome user since February, Yes 58 Flexi for 1 week. Equipment 5Gee Mediatek T750, Huawei CPE Pro 2 Balong 5000, Huawei P40 Pro Balong 5000. 200metres unobstructed to DNB mast, 250metres to U (B1,B3,B7,B8)/Yes (B38,B40) 4G mast

U Mobile
1. Frequently drops to 4G throughout the day to utilize their 4G network and carrier aggregation on all 4 bands B1,B3,B7,B8 around 100-150Mbps. Hardly noticeable, even the latency is around 25ms on U 4G compared to 12-19ms on DNB

2. Torrenting not allowed unless connected via VPN

3. Top speed tested is 1.4Gbps, but day to day use 400-600Mbps. During weekends and holidays, 300-400Mbps download.

Yes
1. Has not dropped to 4G at all in the past week. Yes 4G only works on either B38 or B40 for me. There is no B20 in my area and I have not seen aggregation on Yes 4G so far. 4G speeds around 30-60Mbps with 40-60ms latency.

2. Torrenting allowed. With good seeders, download is around 25MB/s (around 200+Mbps)

3. Top speed tested 1.2Gbps, day to day use 700-800Mbps. Same DNB mast, but on their end, traffic is not as heavy as U.

4. DOES NOT SUPPORT PLAYSTATION NETWORK. Can log in and download games, but refuse to connect to most multiplayer games. Even if connected, will have difficulty staying in the same party as your friends. Unable to upload videos or screenshots from PS5. The only workaround is lock band onto Yes 4G (Band 38, 40) and PSN will work.

5. Yes FT5G had the tendency to prefer DNB B28 for 4G signals. Yes 5G Flexi tends to connect only to their own B38, B40 for 4G.

6. Having used YES FT5G Prepaid in 2022 alongside my Unifi back then, I'm aware of all the sketchy things YTL likes to do. Unannounced throttling, sudden internet blackout, quietly changing terms and adding FUP etc. Get the RM58 and enjoy the unlimited FUP while you can, you never know when they will change their terms.

I am looking for wireless 5G stationed at 1 place, not for phone.

Poor for Celcom 4G almost no line, phone call will break. no 5G.
ok for Digi 4G but must be fixed on 2600Mhz, if connected to 1800Mhz then poor. 5G signal is poor.
Moderate for Maxis.

To be used at putrajaya high level building. Ground floor everything is strong 5G full bar but on high level the signal becomes poor.

Without test unit then cannot confirm the modem will get good signal or not...

Understand what u looking at. But u and yes doesn’t have test unit but their plan got no contract except for yes infinite gateway that come with yes modem.

For me, before changing from fibre to 5G, I test my house 5G signal using my phone 5G signal and speed as reference, my phone 5G signal was umobile and digi, both 5G signal 4out of 5bar at upstair, downstair no 5G signal at all, and speed in between 400-600mbps.

Then with deco x50 5G modem, the signal and speed result with yes flexi 5G almost the same with my phone.

If your unit have weak 5G coverage, or ur phone hardly get 5G signal then with modem would be likely the same. Is better ask around who got the 5G modem and borrow from them to test.

To all yes flexi user, did your check the yes app? Under data, it show 4G:unlimited/5G tap for balance. And I had set to 5G only mode, but still generate 15.5GB 4G data.

For those with issues on the PSN network - have you guys tried a VPN? Are the issues still persistent?

I'd highly recommend getting a VPS in Singapore (way better routing, peering, speeds and pricing compared to shitty MY VPS providers) if you want a solid reliable and fast VPN. Use Wireguard as the VPN software.

Even on Time fiber 1Gbps, I can sometimes can better speeds to certain locations/servers when connected through my VPN.

Anyone can comment between Zyxel NR5103e and ZTE MC801A 5G modem?

Currently I am using Huawei B618 with U home 5G connect 4G B28 and B7 can reach 80-104mbps. If change to auto 4G+ only can get 30-45mbps.

Looking for excellent 5G modem to replace my B618, TPlink X50 not my first choice because I has my own mesh wifi networking at home.

Zyxel using mediatek t750. Zte using sdax55 from qualcomm. Both doesn’t support easymesh. If NR5103 support easymesh.

tplink nx510v also support easy mesh if not mistaken

but for both nr5103e and mc801a, i think nr5103e (three) has better firmware.

From their modem firmware model:

user posted image

Seems the oem modem is supplied by Quectel 50Q Series which is a partner of Qualcomm.

https://www.quectel.com/product/5g-rm50xq-series

But it's old series already at least 2 years behind.

Latest news from Quectel they just launched their latest SOC Feb this year employing Qualcomm's Snapdragon X75/72 modem inside.

Quectel announces 2nd gen of 5G NR modules
https://www.quectel.com/news-and-pr/5g-rele...rg650v-fwa-embb

Back in 2021, they launched a earlier version with Snapdragon X65/62

A year earlier with SD X55..

Most modems out there currently is at 2-3 generations behind using the old Snapdragon X55 chipsets. Now the very latest is the Snapdragon X70 Series 5G-Advanced with AI enabled processor.

This won’t work. 5g will connect momentarily and disconnect. Then you cannot get any signal at all, unless you put in a modem. I tried that.

Nope, can only put in modem or router, cannot use in phone. It doesn’t even come with proper phone number.

The size is actually smaller than I tot… just like 2 roll of toilet paper… haha. And light weight also. Easy to carry when needed… but of cos not pocket size lah. Performance wise…. I can get around 300mb in my living room. I don’t try to place somewhere else for better reception…. Cos 200 or 300mb is good enough for me… as long as it is higher than 100 mb. I use my Yes prepaid SIM card can get 600mb outside the house.
Connection is superb. Very stable. More reliable than my maxis fiber earlier. Always disconnect

I use this in the office because office wifi has firewall many places cannot go. But this router size is too obvious so i need to find way to hide it from IT dept and only pull long wired external antenna to get the signal. with built in antenna I can get about 250mbps with 5G, but the signal is not strong enough sometimes dropped to 4G about 40mbps.

Just found out TPlink X50-5G can lock the band! wow this feature is not found in many other brands. Now i can lock to 5G band NR78 and will not (hopefully) switch to 4G anymore. Superb.

But Deco X50-5G definitely can lock band

But no point to lock band for 5G cause there's only 1 band now

I didn't mention that NX510V can lock band tongue.gif

But Deco X50-5G definitely can lock band

But no point to lock band for 5G cause there's only 1 band now
*
I also have Deco X50-5G. Mine cannot lock band. All the bands that are supposed to be selected does not appear in the Deco app. Just blank.

Tested with umobile home 5g and also celcom xpax prepaid sim card

It will only show you the available band to lock onto

When it's on 5G, there's only 1 band available, so there's no point to lock band

However, my band locking and selecting CA combo does work on 4G on Celcom and DiGi. What firmware you use?

The reason to lock the 5G band is to prevent it from switching to 4G band and dropped to 4G. When both 4G and 5G signals are available, the router will switch to stronger signal that it "thinks" better. In my case 5G only 3 bars but working better than 4 bars 4G.

There's a separate feature for you to choose 4G or 5G, not the same menu as the band selection.

Edit: It's under the network mode menu where you can choose 5G preferred, 5G only or 4G only. It's working properly for me. Can you try using 5G only and report back?

When I test the router on a SIM card without 5G plan. It does not even connect to the 4G network when 5G only mode is selected.

Feel free to share your finding as I am curious as well. smile.gif

On my X50-5G only has 2 options. 5G preferred and 4G only. No 5G only sad.gif , i wish there is. Firmware 1.10 b20230804 r3600

I am buying a pair of external antenna that works only on 3300-3500Mhz N78 instead of full band antenna, see whether it can stay on 5G or not.

You won’t want to use 5G only. Malaysian 5G networks are all NSA mode (Non Stand Alone), which means they need 4G for signalling.
So if you configure it to be 5G only, it won’t work. I tried that, though on NX510v, not sure if that will make any difference.

Curious, what is the antenna you buying?

I have been using aluminium foil to block off the other direction and so far it works for me. XD
I get a speed increase of about 100mbps with this trick.

From taobao https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=547036800062

5G is connected now, band showing B28,N78

If only N78 signal is available, will our SNA 5G work? hmm.gif

Don’t think so. At least when I enabled 5g only, it refuses to connect.

I thought you are going to get those directional antenna. Seems like that would be better. Do tell if your antenna improves the performance.

Ouch, i received the antenna, but couldn't install it. Just found out X50-5G uses a rare connector that 90% antenna in the market won't fit. Need to find special converter zzz...
Look at the pin, usually should be hole. No wonder how i screw also cannot go in, male vs male of course lah...

Hmm... this TPlink X50-5G product is not impressive, the ping is terrible compared to my old Netgear M1 mobile router. Exactly same simcard at same location at same band, M1 4G ping is so stable in the range of 20-30ms. the TPLink fixed at 4g or 5G ping is always fluctuating like share market between 30->100. Both connected by LAN.

The Netgear product is however damn expensive, such small device with limited function the price is 4x TPlink...

Both are Qualcomm chipset, but implementation level is different. I have a ZTE MU5002 mobile router, performs terrible also in term of ping (connected by LAN), using Qualcomm chipset as well.

At first, mine also showing "nothing".
Then i kept on trying, finally "N78" appeared in the manual list. So, I selected that.

Speed of YES 4G(Single band) and YES 5G(B28+N78)

I just ordered a Yes 5G Flexi SIM and honestly I have no idea what's the speed looks like in my sister's place or hometown. laugh.gif According to the map, it shows they are within 5G coverage area. So, let's see. I also got a Zyxel NR5103E 5G router from Taobao. Let's see how far it fares. If worse comes to worst, I will just cancel Yes 5G Flexi. At least, I have a 5G router now and free to subscribe to any telcos/plans.

I do have a fibre at home but this one is just for on the go plus it is very affordable.

Raexim is right

I just checked with some expert on this.

Our current implementation of DNB NSA 5G network will not allow you to do 5G only. 5G NSA will rely on 4G to function properly and in our scenario, it will need B28.

The closest thing is 5G preferred but nothing is stopping DNB's 5G radio from bumping you down to 4G if it thinks your poor 5G coverage is an airtime nuisance to other 5G users.

Locking to 5G only will result to no network at all most of the time. Confirmed this recently.

Got the SIM today and activated it right away, I'm using it in my old iPhone 12 Pro Max while waiting for the router to arrive. The speed captured is around 480Mbps-510Mbps indoor. Not too bad, let's see how far it will fare. Upload speed, not that good around 30Mbps only.

Do you guys have issue of 5G dropping to 4G and the 4G is sometimes unusable? Nothing loads. How to prevent that?

Most of those Taobao routers especially those with carrier logo are actually returned units in their original market.

They then got refurbished in China and sold to us.

exactly. that's why all getting like open blind box. different countries different firmwares customized by respective countries' telcos.

for UK Three or EE unit…the unit returned to telco and eventually sold in channel like amazon or CeX.

local or oversea sellers take the stock and sell as is basis, you received good unit you lucky.

the e-commerce platform also can't protect you much if you don't know how to test and record as evidence.

so we don't know the returned telco unit is good or lemon unit. (uk telcos have good return policy)

even if early batch users reported all good, it also might be certain version of firmware suitable for local use. who knows if later batch router comes with different firmware that not suitable for local use. some more the router itself need to insert that telco sim card only can update firmware.

not only zyxel, same to the zte and other brands too that sold in grey market.

if u want to save the few hundred bucks, then you have to bear the risk.

According to my source, only QC fail units are recalled back to China. You can guess what happen next.

QC pass units are refurbished and resold in their original market.

My problem is that Yes 5G is not stable, it will drop to 4G and becomes unusable. At least, I can see this from iPhone 12PM. I guess I will terminate it after a month and change to U Home. laugh.gif

About the 4G portion limited to 100GB only, is there an indication in the Yes app to show how much used on 4G and 5G?

Currently on U Home 5G with good 5G speed in my area. So, thinking of switching to Yes to save RM11/ month. They are using the same 5G (DNB) tower, right?

suggest - u overlap both accounts and see the connection and then cancel which one is not so suitable since both has no contract tied to it

i used Yes 5G but often having disconnection or 4G/5G change ... now trying out U mobile and it is perfect so far.

That's the plan and will not cancel U Mobile immediately. Can move U Mobile for use in office for the meantime.

Will use Yes for a month or so to test it out. That's why I need to find out from current users of Yes whether can see in the app how much used for 4G and 5G in a particular billing period. My usage is not high - about 150GB-ish per month. Using TP-Link X50 5G modem router.

Thanks for the info.

So in your case, means from 25 October 2023 until today, your connection has not fallen back to 4G at all? Or just that your Yes sim is currently sidelined while testing U Mobile?

It funny - because the drop and change happens quickly and switches back number if times, and oddly enough the app doesnt show any usage of 4G. but i have sudden lag or connection issue in youtube, netflix, hbo go and disney hotstar - maybe the way Yes is being routed, not too sure about this.

so now i just got U mobile - put it in - and none of this problem happens.

i am using Zyxel router for home network. and yes is taken out while i am using u mobile.

Hi guys. I just started using yes flexi around a month ago. All is good. Bought xyzel modem from shopee. Speed around 400-500. Happy with it as i used unifiair previously with speed just around 30mbps.

So far all stable. But i need to expand the coverage inside my house. I put the router in bedroom no 2, upstair. Downstair at the kichen just got 1 bar or none. Living room 2 bar but speed drop around 80-100mbps only. Can pair xyzel with mesh? Or just buy router like ax55 can also. My house is double storey. Area to cover around 2500sqf both upstair and downstair.

so far U Mobile is up to the task to become the anchor internet provider for my home networking- if all goes well, will terminate Maxis Home and Yes 5G soon.

Seems that YES 5G is different in performance compared to U Home 5G. Better I keep U Mobile than switching just to save RM11.00/ month 🙂

Called YesCare line first. After all the verification and spoke to CS, was told to go Lot10. mad.gif
So don't waste your time calling.

At Lot 10, just need IC for thumb print verification. Provide bank account details (for refund if any).

how much does it cost for both modem?

u home 5G best among all 5G options? is it truly unlimited?

You mean lag in term of speed? My speed is OK 3xx mbps n 1xx upload.. Jz that random drop off and the working stuff can't login

i also faced similar issue with Yes5G:
cant connect to office vpn, connection to outlook mailbox server always dropping (happen to few laptop with diff outlook account), lazada free rice game cannot load, do speedtest always less than 5mbps in upload speed.

got a UHome 5G sim and voila all issue gone .. speed and latency all similar to fiber.

using the same NR5103E router for both sim above.

I let you do this test and find out yourself.

YES 5G does allow torrent if you do it nekkid without VPN and speedtests shows full speed if you do them with local servers. It gives a temporary boost for few seconds to allow you to show off and advertise for them the speeds you can get.

Now here's the test to reveal the real dirty trick they silently imposed:

Connect to a overseas VPN/VPS and do the same test across the globe see if you're throttled a not. My results show that you get ADSL speeds with just around 8Mbps at most or worst. Torrents become worst when you turn on your VPN.

U Mobile does the OPPOSITE. Without VPN you can't torrent, but with VPN your speeds and routing gets optimized to the best potential.

I tell you this company cannot be trusted. They always secretly modify their FUP with every possible means to give you less. Got trapped many times before with their previous 100GB 4G Postpaid plans which allowed use in modems but later say your device not in their compatible list of limited devices.

Meaning to say this:

1) Their 5G plan is just for speedtest showoffs and indirect marketing for their company

2) You can torrent with caution for legal files such as linux ISOs and official apps with full speed but beware of being exposed. But once you turn your VPN on, the throttling kicks in and your use will be limited.

3) All connections outside Malaysia are heavily throttled to ADSL speeds around 8Mbps or less with VERY HIGH latency. It's their way of being stingy.
It could be port based though they don't block it to give you fake sense that they don't do speed throttling.

4) Latency is very bad compared to their direct competitor U at LEAST double most times with international servers. It gives indication that their servers can't handle large capacity traffic and their unwillingness to invest more in core network routing equipments.

5) Their 4G network with quota allowance doesn't have this port throttling limitation. You can get full speed with international servers and VPNs because its quota based.

EDIT with additional comments:

My speedtest results without VPN is consistently >500Mbps day long.

When connected to the best VPNs/VPS with 10Gbps servers even closeby countries such as SG, my speedtests dropped to 5 Mbps or less and torrents not moving only getting ard 0.5MB/s.

Something is wrong? Without VPN torrents can reach >30MB/s shakehead.gif

Obviously they are implementing port throttling to international servers and only allow fake speedtests.

Your Steam downloads goes through VPN or RAW without?
If without VPN then everything is fine with popular sites even torrents reaches full speed.

The problem starts when you start connecting to VPN, speed to Europe and USon average only like 5-8Mbps, pings can go as high as over 300ms.

YES seems to be implementing anti VPN policy which is not good. Users need to connect to their company VPN to work remotely.
Speedtests don't say it's fake. You can give a few second temporary boost say for 60 secs for the speedtest then start throttling users to prevent them from heavy downloading.

I know because on fibre totally no such restrictions or throttling.

Don't try not to pay anything for telco bills, you will be blacklisted.

Coincidentally, I will be in Bukit Bintang area this weekend, gonna terminate it while I'm there.

OT: Not sure if anyone knows, I'm wondering if I can subscribe to U Home from Berjaya Times Square and get the SIM card on the spot?

Yes maybe they call it as postpaid for a reason.. I kena before with digi when I am secondary sch.. They terminate and keep charging my bill till 4xx...then send letter demand.. After 10 years I told them either you give discount or you don't get paid.. Settled around 2xx lol..

I thought so but it is indeed faster on U Mobile, around 20Mbps more and also upload speed was less than 20Mbps on Yes but 50-60Mbps on U Mobile now.

You need to locate where the tower and direct you modem antenna to that direction. More or less is where you 4G come into play. NSA

Oh well, too much hassle for me as the router is placed in the same place, and I don't have an external antenna for this router.
Anyway, happy with U Mobile.

There is internal antenna in it. Just placing at facing the tower. aka change the modem direction not place.

My Yes 5G got problem for the past 2 days.... internet speed reduced to less than 1mb... previously i face disconnection issue but usually it would reconnect back and resumed 5G speed.... this time is different... i try to play with the setting but still the same... connected but in turtle speed... i saw my usage is 1.2TB.... could it be the problem? it should be unlimited..... i'm using TPLINK X50 router... if under 5G speed the router will show white color all the way... now the LED colour is green for past 2 days..... i'll wait 1 more day and see.... the billing cycle is 1st of the month.... if by 1st Dec my internet speed back to 5g.... means it is not really unlimited 5G.... unlimited data yes...

by the way...is there a Yes careline for us to call? i can't seem to find one.... only can log report via app? i used to trash Unifi and Maxis broadband ....now i miss them.... at least i got a number to call.... especially Maxis careline.... they answer phone quite promptly.... wink.gif

Last question... i hope i dont need to go to this extend..... i love cheap internet tongue.gif .....how to terminate Yes broadband?... i can't find Termination from the app.... and i saw the msg here that ppl actually went to Lot 10 to terminate..... seriously??? we just need to phone call to terminate Unifi, Maxis, Astro....& etc.... please dont tell me must go Lot10 to terminate... any Yes authorized ok?

haha easy for u to say based on some theory that u google from the net .. "5G all use same tower, no matter which provider, bla bla bla"

have u tried 2 different sim in a 5G modem at the exact same spot, facing same direction but give u different 5G signal strength and speed.
try do this before u comment sweat.gif sweat.gif

Here with my high end 5G modem heavy modify.

My conclusion 5G is still very new. Don't waste time on it yet.

Yes 5G latency truly sucks.

Even to their own in house local server in KL average over 25ms.
Telco U can get below 15ms closer to 10ms.

International connectivity feels like heavily throttled. Can only get around 100Mbps but local speedtest can get full speed.

During peak hours even worst can go above 30ms, this is from within Klang Valley.
Yes as a small time ISP has very little uplink capacity, It relies heavily on its major uplink provider, TIME dCom for most of its international connectivity.

High latency is mostly due to overcongestion at its core switching server/concentrators. They probably have very little budget to upgrade their network capacity.

At my place Yes is fluctuating between 20-90ms. U is stable 20-30, digi also same stable.

This has something to do with the modem/router using also. different modem diff ping result with exactly same simcard at exactly same spot.

Nothing to do with modem/router, as some of us have already tested both Yes and telco U 5G plans using the same modems and placed at the same position during test conduct.

The enviroment and test setup remains the same.

Both receiving from the same DNB base station because 5G infra in Malaysia has only 1 wholesale provider.

Why is Yes's pings and uploads inferior? The only thing that sets them apart is their CORE SWITCHING network equipments, servers and uplinks.

Telco U's partner is China's ZTE, not sure what YES uses but they tend to be more Western inclined.

I supposed could terminate anytime because not bound to any contracts but it seems endG said no refund? My case I used slightly more than a month so I paid the additional RM 5.xx on the spot when I terminated the account.

Not just latency is high, downtime also extremely high.

Last week alone already down 3 times in a week. Each time down lasted around 4 hours more on average.

For TPLink X50-5G, the wireless connection 5HZ is default to 160Mhz. Since then i have problem with whatsapp call, always disconnected, router is just 2m away. Ping sometimes spike high a bit but i don't see how it can affect whatsapp call, and download, speedtest is good. Today after switching to 80Mhz seems whatsap call is good now.
YES ping by itself is not good even with LAN, so this multiplies with the 160Mhz could be making thing worse. Never expect this kind of problem before

Yes, for mandarin telco home 68 after 1TB it will throttle to 64kbps
You can buy add-on of 1TB at RM30 continuously if you want to continue with high speed

Importantly the limited 5G bandwidth at each area is shared by all the ppl around the area. So if crowded place, sure the speed and latency will not be good.

For me, I will need to top up because not enough to go through 1 month as there are 3 people connecting to my modem sharing the quota

How is this compared to Fiber Broadband? I'm on Time 100mbps and thinking if I should jump over.

In my home, Maxis 5G signal on my phone seems to be consistently at >300mbps whenever I run a speedtest.

So far it has been very stable for me, and I am using Yeacomm 5G modem. I highly recommend this modem as it has been ultra stable for me over the past 6 months.

Speed with about -90db +- signal strength, at about 300mpbs - 500mpbs, no complain tongue.gif

I was expecting the other way round. Since 5g is much faster ,and eat up more data is short period of time, they would limit the data for 5g instead of 4g.

Because 5G is using DNB infrastructure where as 4G is on telco own infrastructure

As such if you use these plans on 4G the speeds may be bad depending on your location

Yes just introduced a newer and improved model of their 5G modem known as the Yes 5G Infinite Gateway Pro

The features of this modem having the same default web management IP, a Snapdragon based chipset, 2X 2.5G Ethernet port and same coloring signal quality bar (except reposition to front of modem instead on top) hints that it's a brand Z model under the cover.

Do we know of any other brands or model with the features above?

EDIT: It's an Oppo 5G T1 CPE with SD X55 chipset used by Three HK?

I think, 5G data network is sponsored by MCMC and or DNB

How come Maxis the expensive telco can give 1,000GB 5G at RM18/month nationwide but 10GB 4G only
Someone have to pay

Yeacomm is Mediatek based not Snapdragon. It only has 1x2.5G port+1x1G port this one has 2X 2.5G Ethernet port.

There are very few SDX55 based model I'm aware in the market which have 2x2.5G Ethernet port except for the Zyxel.

Also it is among the most expensive 5G modem in the market. The Zyxel NR5101 for example is selling for US$1299 now.
https://www.4gltemall.com/5g/5g-cpe/zyxel-5g-router.html

This one looks almost identical to the Zyxel NR5307 with the number of LEDs and position of the WPS button but without WiFi7 probably customized by the OEM manufacturer directly.

https://www.4gltemall.com/5g/5g-cpe/zyxel-5g-router.html

This one looks almost identical to the Zyxel NR5307 with the number of LEDs and position of the WPS button but without WiFi7 probably customized by the OEM manufacturer directly.

The casing mould probably came from the same OEM manufacturer but chipset and features not the same.

Look at the Yeacomm models:

https://yifanwireless.com/5g-cpe-router/

None of them have dual 2.5G Ethernet ports

EDIT: You may be right. Even the SIM also uses nano SIM same as the Yeacomm.

True, they've already been banned by telcos for their mobile plans meant for phones.

Actually, the ban already imposed quite some time since you cannot use prepaid/postpaid mobile plans such as Yes Power 35 and Telco U mobile plans on them.
Try placing a Yes prepaid/postpaid mobile plan SIM(not the broadband SIM) into these modems, they won't boot up or connect with no signal.
Only their data only broadband plans can be used because the telco allows buy your own(BYO) modem plans with no contracts.

Zyxel is very popular brand in Europe due to their anti-China policies. It is among the popular benchmark models used by Ericsson which is DNB's vendor.

The screenshot you posted is from non official Yes channel. Also there're 2 models out there one being the 3 Three model mostly already sold out everywhere and the restricted EE model which don't allow lockband function. Their IMEI cannot be changed and ISPs view them as safe models that cannot bypass mobile plans meant for phones. The EE model is useless because of its firmware limitations, and the official Zyxel branded ones expect to pay close to US$500 a new unit.

If you mentioned about blocking, those models with QWRT(China modded OpenWRT) out there will be the ones to be blocked first high on their lists. They allow illegal IMEI modifications and bypass of mobile plans without hotspot quotas.

Many of those modded brands out there claimed to be OpenWRT based are actually China modded QWRT based not the official channel. No one actually knows they have hidden backdoors in them and usually the tactics used by China modem suppliers is that they won't upgrade their QRT firmwares frequently for specific models to push newer models with newer versions of the firmware so you will have to keep buying from them.

detailed and well informed explanation from you as always man, u must be an expert in this field

yes the screenshot is from one of the unofficial yes 5g fb group posted by a random anonymous user which caught my attention

btw given tht ISP view Three & EE model as safe models as their imei cannot be changed, i wonder whether these models might still face the risk of being banned outright even if used with a broadband plan (if mcmc were to decide so), this is particularly concerning

considering these models has no SIRIM and seems to be out of spec as what JLA claims

Might as well ban all those unknown China brands and OEM ones out there including imported phones with universal band features..

Popular branded modems such as Arcadyan, Netgear, Nokia, Sagemcom, Sercomm , Zyxel are all fully compliant with ITU and British/EU standards. Those models undergo strict rigorous user acceptance tests (UATs) with many major telcos such as 3 UK/IE, EE, Vodafone, O2, Deutsche Telecom, Tele2, Telstra to get qualified.

user posted image

Should it fail 3rd world Malaysian standards and quality? laugh.gif

I disable its WiFi in the modem and put it in IP Pass-through mode for my home router to take over.

Anyways the 3 UK model already sold out almost everywhere only left the EE models which you shouldn't be buying because they have no lock band feature and can be defective when auto connecting.

Correction:
Three UK has already replaced it with a newer Zyxel model NR5103Ev2 which is cheaper built for cost cutting. It comes only with 2x1G ports and 2xTS9 antenna ports but with still the same Mediatek T750 modem chipset in it.

Also would like to clarify that the 3 Three and EE UK Zyxel NR5103E modems are actually Mediatek T750 based not Snapdragon X55 based as many had claimed by online sellers.

Among the other models which uses this Mediatek T750 chipset are:
Yeacomm NR330 5G Modem AX3600 WiFi-6 Router
Arcadyan Meteor aka Telstra 5G Internet Modem 2 (Gen 2)

The Snapdragon X55 chipset based modems are:
Telstra AW1000 5G Home Modem (Gen 1)
TP-Link Deco X50-5G 5G AX3000 Whole Home Mesh WiFi 6 Gateway
Zyxel NR5101 5G NR Indoor Modem

The Mediatek T750(Sept 2020) is a newer chipset compared to the Snapdragon X55(Feb2019) by one year.
It has supports CA across wider 5G NR bands compared to the older Snapdragon X55

I thought better try a YES 5G prepaid first (FT5G) before embarking on the YES Home 58/- Flexi plan.

This is the result on my Poco X6 5G phone with full bar signal.

Not trying to backup YES or what not, but with 5G, it really boils down to several factors such as location, signal strength, type of modem router used. All telcos in MY under DNB are on the same radio bands, so if a tower is close by to your house, you should get a good enuff speed .... My ss as proof ...

Yes, the X55 modem is a bit outdated, but still relevant, it is no slouch, and the advantage of buying a modem router with X55 is that they are realtively cheaper now compared to the latest X62 & X65 modems, which could cause serious dents to the wallet.

Apartment building, 3rd floor. No speed cap, unlimited data (as long as you're connected to 5G). 4G usage will have a data cap of 100GB, after which when quota is finished, will capped your 4G speeds to 1MBps if not mistaken. Best to use a router that can lock band so that it doesn't drop to 4G on its own.

What bands did you lock ? N78 and B28 ?

I think I did one too many speed tests with my prepaid. 3 weeks ago wasn't that low, now it looks like I am being capped.

Update
-----------
Solved the problem, Possibly the connection drop to 4G more than usual recently so I removed one of the cheap rabbit ears antenna (the 4G one) from the modem, leaving just the 5G antenna. Seem to stabilise the 5G signal reception and stay at 5G. Maybe the 4G antenna was interfering with the 5G one.

Yes, using my router, I'm able to lock band B28 + N78. Stayed at 5G all the time without any disconnection so far.

I can't really comment on the router supplied by YES since I am using my own router. So far have not seen any disconnection or dropping to 4G, but max bandwitdh speed is fluctuating frequently from 300++-ish to 600++-ish, depending on the time. Guess might have something to do with area QoS set by YES. If they are serving more users in a single sector, then a balanced QoS will be put in play so that everyone in that sector receives at least the same speed. I believe this is a standard practice done by other telcos as well. As for the data consumption, you can refer to my earlier ss. I've just started using it since 6th March this month.

Some ss of the radio signal reception on the router ...

anyone still using this YES 5g plan?

Signed up for the free 30 days trial using esim on my phone. Only able to detect 4G speeds during speed test even though the coverage check showing there is 5g coverage in my area.

Planning to get Zyxel NR5103E modem to use with the SIM. Would it be better at pulling 5G connection?

And if the connection is bad. Is it difficult to cancel the subscription? I heard have to go physically to Yes centre in KL.

That is why the feature to lock band is very useful for modems and your unrooted phone is not.

I was using YES broadband Flexi 58, quite ok, but when moving around, the line can't connected quickily ( i used it in 5g Phone)

then i changed to XOX postpaid unlimited, worst. At home also will switch to EDGE, very frequently, and always can't switch back to 5G automatically.

Now thinking to sign the umobile free modem 2 years contract.

All 5G is from DNB, so you will experience the same signal source as Flexi 58.

Maybe there will be some difference in how well the different modems pull the signal.

How you terminate the YES service ? Can terminate immediately or need to give 1 month of notice ?
Thanks

I went to the YES Experience Store at Lot10. I terminated it after a month since I had already pre-paid for a month when I got the SIM card.

Anyone using yes5g flexi with nokia fastmile 5g?

Hows the performance?

Nokia Fastmile will connecto to both band 78 & 28.

But it seems to have higher tendency to pull data from 28.

I believe this is Yes' network setting.

So far I'm only able to get max 240Mbps thru this Nokia Fastmile (late night specifically).

Daytime, around 130-150Mbps.

So u use the flexi plan sim card in a 5g phone and turn on hotspot? It works well?

TPlink X50-5G yesterday updated firmware that can lock cell. It is lock cell, not lock band, you have to manually key in the details. The information can find in the app. NRARFCN and PCI in 5G NR. The router will stick to that specific tower only. I believe when change the location or telco the setting won't work any more.

I will see if the router still stupidly switch to 4G or not. 4G only 1 bar 10mbps, 5G is 3 bars 200mbps, and yet it can suddenly switch to 4G and stay. Hopefully this lock cell thing can solve it.

I think may be is the telco setting problem. I face this before, suddenly connection keep drop from 5G to 4G, and through RSRP,RSRQ,SINR value, show 5G signal strength suddenly become weaker and can’t maintain connection on 5G even after lock band.

Complain to YES and MCMC, and after weeks everything back to normal again after YES saying they had done some setting on tower site.

Just sharing with everyone my experience using YES FT5G for the past month on my iPad Pro M4 Cellular. I must say I’m quite impressed with what YES offers at such a price, especially at 5G areas. I’m lucky that most of the places I frequent to has excellent 5G coverage. Some issues I noticed after using if for a month:

1. Sometimes, the 5G coverage suddenly drops to LTE out of a sudden, and it only comes back around 5-10 minutes later.
2. The LTE speeds are abysmal but they did mention it’s limited to 7Mbps
3. 5G can jitter or lose connection out of a sudden even with full bar coverage.

All in all, it’s still a great deal at RM25 (RM30, but minus RM5 with autopay) and I don’t have to worry about quotas with the unlimited data.

One of the most LOUSIEST ISP I've ever used.

The Prepaid plan is blocked on most major branded 5G modem (IMEI filtering).
When you insert the SIM into it it'll get barred because of being banned on their network.
Only their Flexi 5G Broadband plan doesn't have this device restriction and it easily costs more than 2X their prepaid offering.

Just this week alone already DOWN 3 times during the last week days. Other ISPs such as Telco U, CD and M also on same DNB 5G network but why they don't need to do so frequent maintenance/downtimes?

What kind of ISP needs to do tuning and maintenance almost every week?

Also expect very high PINGs to occur and very ERRATIC uploads.

You noticed sometimes your upload speed is like only 6mbps on your screenshot? This ISP is very problematic, I'm also experiencing the same thing..if it works I can get 50MBps+ upload but on good days out of sudden my upload can become less than 5Mbps.

Pings is horrible, other ISPs such as Telco U, CD, M is at LEAST 10ms lower on server connections even local ones.

Most 5G ISPs can get below 20ms for local servers, but YES 5G server always more than 20ms sometimes even worst over 30ms during a bad day like now.

I switched from Yes 5G Flexi Broadband to U Home 5G, though they use the same DNB stuff. To be honest, I really feel U Home 5G is miles ahead. Yes, it is RM 10 more than Yes 5G, but it is far more stable. I am happy with it.

+ u home 5g has wider 4g coverage compared to yes. once in awhile if u bring ur router go camping or balik kampung u might end up with no coverage at all, if that place don't have 5g & don't have yes 4g coverage.

sim only plan for me umobile is better than yes. but if u opt for contract with free 5g router, umobile router sux big time compared to yes router. anyway, both router is telco lock & unable to unlock even if the contract period is over. sigh..

All 5G coverage is the same, just that this YES service always goes down and experience bad upload speeds and extra high latency.

You can get less than 20ms latency to local servers but YES close to 30ms and above.

Recently just few days latency to local server shot to over 40ms after the MS global outage incident. Not sure if they were affected as well.

Very slow uploads encountered over the weekend sometimes even less than 1 Mbps.

Failed ISP. Other telcos also share same DNB infra as them why theirs no such incidents and frequent downtimes?

Might apply for this soon but from reading some of the posts here it seems YES 5G quality is not as stable or consistent as other telcos (higher ping, slow uploads, connection randomly dropping to 4G etc) despite running from the same DNB infrastructure lol

U Mobile's 5G Broadband seems like a better option for just RM 10 more but they've clearly stated theres a 1000GB FUP and P2P/torrenting is also blocked it seems.

In any case I'll likely be using it on some cheapo hand-me-down 5G phone as a hotspot. For those doing the same, what are your experiences like? I know that a dedicated 5G router/modem should be better but at the moment the prices are quite crazy to justify getting one for short term usage (~1-3 months).

All 5G is from DNB, so you will experience the same signal source as Flexi 58.

Maybe there will be some difference in how well the different modems pull the signal.
*
Hello, just want to say that even though under the DNB setup, everyone is riding on the same radio access, but actually the connection to the core network is separated. So if the core network of a service provider does not have enough processing power to handle the user or the backhaul of the core network is limited in capacity, it can affect the end experience. So it’s not true that all telco are the same when they are all using the same DNB infra.

Any idea what the FUP/quota for the 'Unlimited' actually is?

I recall that CelcomDigi, Maxis and U Mobile have stated in their sites that accounts will be throttled after exceeding 1000GB data usage but there doesn't seem to be any specific figures at all in Yes' website regarding their FUP policy other than some mention of throttling for 'excess usage'..

I've used up until 3500gb (in a month) about 3 months ago, no throttling at all. so it's really unlimited quota if u keeps connected to their 5g.

Everyone here looking for affordable 5G modem can consider this item:

https://invl.io/cllpce5
(the link to said product)

Cost-effective 5G modem with good chipset. Plus compatible with ample band frequencies.
Some more with LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) if the network fall-back.

Have been using the Flexi plan for about 2+ weeks now. Some observations:

Was mostly running it from a dirt cheap 4G LTE dongle so it kept draining the 100GB 4G quota. Speed was usually ~10mbps.

Just got a Zyxel NR5103E that was unfortunately faulty (no 5G connection; there seems to be a faulty batch around). Speed was around ~15-30mbps and interestingly enough, data usage did not seem to affect the 4G quota despite the modem not being able to connect to 5G (ie it was only using 4G).

Did you set band lock (B28/N78) inside NR5103E? it might help get only 5G signal!
I used to had Three Version NR5103E, it tend to use 4G if not Band Lock.
Attach link if you don't know how to set!

Yes have already done that but it still does not connect at all.. even tried forcing it to use N78 in standalone but that obviously didn't work either lol

Did some research and it is a known problem with the NR5103E (the E variant should be a Three specific model- there firmware downloads on the Zyxel site and it specifically excludes the NR5103E).. you can also find posts of people with similar issues in the Three forums.

There's even a compilation of these posts on FB lol: https://www.facebook.com/pendakwahteknologi...750048315/?_rdr

My unit is used and the seller (who isn't particularly tech savvy) actually sold it because he said the 5G connection was too slow but I think it was likely because he was also unable to get a 5G connection with it..

The E stands for "Enhanced" for the 3 UK unit.

The 3 UK set uses a newer Mediatek T750 instead of stock Zyxel branded NR5103 which is believed to be older Snapdragon X50 based.

Newer in the sense that it supports more 5G bands. Stability and signal pulling strength, the Snapdragon one performs better and it has 4X4 MIMO WiFi instead.

Hai.

I'm a new customer who using yes wireless broadband. So far everything is good, speedtest can get 400Mbps even peak hour using wifi and LAN port direct. But since they only give 2 port (ZLT X25 PRO), so I try to connect switch mikrotik and observe getting slow <200Mbps. But when connect direct LAN have no problem.

I try using another switch Cisco C2960G-48P, but issue still same. I can only get >400Mbps when directly connect to the LAN port. Anyone have experience this issue and have solve the issue?

I already reboot the router, reset both my mikrotik and C2960G but issue still same. I tried do ipref3 on my mikrotik and cisco router, but no problem. Appreciate if you guys could advise.

I've been reading this forum and I'm trying to understand something.

I'm using Yes 4G prepaid. The one with RM20 for 50GB quota.

I've been using this sim card in a portable USB wifi modem.

Does this mean YES will eventually detect the IMEI of this USB modem and 'bar' me?

I think they apply that to those using the FT5G unlimited plan. I think lah. FT5G 20 should be OK, again I think.

Ok. That's my (possibly incorrect) understanding too. This sim plan has 50GB quota on 5G/4G combined. So it is not 'unlimited'.

Hopefully that's the case lah.

Yes is known for being the most notorious and very aggressive in banning grey IMEIs for the past few years.

If you still manage to use a mobile plan SIM on some unknown brand modem, count your days lucky one day suddenly when you experience throttling till dialup speeds to almost unusable or blocked then you should figure out your SIM has been discovered to be inserted in an unregistered modem device.

There are many ways the ISP can detect rogue hotpots and mobile plans being abused as fixed lines.

IMEI, TTL, packet size, etc.Even your browser useragent headers..

So enjoy your rogue device while it's still working. Once your data usage gets extreme, they'll eventually find out because you'll stand out among the average user.

Years back even on a Postpaid Mobile Kasi Up 100GB quota plan with nothing said about not being able to hotspot in their T&C also got throttled.

For all mobile plans they probably only maintain a green list of mobile phone model IMEIs and if they discover some grey non registered IMEI excessively transferring data, you'll be blocked. This method they will observe your usage quietly and see if you got abuse it with heavily downloading a not, with one eye closed.

For those who inserts the SIM into an blocked IMEI in MCMC's list straight will get block, you won't even be able connect to the network. Your phone will register blank network or "no network".

I still don’t get it though. My package is for 50GB. With ‘sharing hotspot’ fully allowed. Why does it matter if the sim is used in modem? Once it reaches the 50GB, then it’s finished. Need to buy new data quota.

It’s not an unlimited plan. Did I miss something?

If anything, buying additional data will be income generating to them after 50GB is used up. But if the smart people at Yes think differently to say no to money, plenty of other telcos that give reasonable amount of GB for RM20/mo. Who knows.

because the truth is, like with other telcos like umoble

they expect your usage to be low
they hope you dont finish it all

because typical phone use is just like, facebook, instagram, whatsapp

maybe youtube and tiktok a bit more heavy

where as in router/modem
you'll have many users using it at one time, downloading large content, etc.

Which is why most telcos do have a plan for modem use, but of course the cost is higher whistling.gif

50GB plan is low data usage. Anyway if they really want to block my modem, I’m happy to spend else where. Up to them lah.

Also the screenshot shown above actually says Prepaid Unlimited which mine isn’t (unlimited). I’m confined to 50GB per month. If finish, it’s finished. If such concept is alien to YES, then other telcos ‘get’ it.

Let me share more about this exclusive unlimited traffic for certain apps such as Google, Youtube, FB, Instagram and Whatsapp.

They made them unlimited was because our telcos had deals with these socmed companies to share their customers info and data with their partners and in return get subsidized partially for the intelligence exchange.

Many people didn't know that all their daily messages and activities were being shared with advertisers, govt agencies and interested parties willing to pay for the free services they used daily.

It's all monetized.

Here's one example: Pokemon Go wasn't your typical game it was secretly used by intelligence agencies and military to train AI mapping of places they wanted to survery and duped civillians into going to thoese areas by placing a virtual pokemon there.

Many keep referring to the unlimited plan in their example. I don't think FT5G 20 is actually targetted for this, unlike say U Mobile which explicitly stated no use of their plans even with quota on anything other than a smartphone.

Of course, there's nothing preventing Yes from doing the same if they want to. For now keep using it while it's still working. 50GB on 5G even on a smartphone can be consumed pretty fast so I don't think you will be singled out for extreme use unlike say on the unlimited plan even if you finish up that data.

I'm not super expert on this but based on the thread I read at https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5434288 there are certain chipsets that are good and there are some that are not good.

From what I learned, good/efficient chipset matters for network and heat management. Heard about certain modems that would slow down due to heat (think of it like PC or mobile phone) and some require the need to restart or it will 'hang'. Something like that.

Another criteria of course is the bands supported.

Maybe post your questions there. More expert who had experience.

Well said my friend.

I'm paying RM20 for this package. YES should be aware the type of customers who purchase this. ie: people who don't want to spend RM60-100 per month for 'unlimited'. This is my 2nd week on this plan. Previously I paid RM20-30 per month for Hotlink and Digi sim cards. My area is served well by most telco towers (not sure about U Mobile but should be the same).

So if they want to lose a customer, it's up to them. Minutes from my house there's a 7-11 that sells empty sim cards from various telco. Easy to go and just buy something else smile.gif

Got an email and app notification from Yes that they've just upgraded the 4G quota from 150GB to 500GB.

Strange since I'm on the Flexi plan that only has 100GB 4G data. In any case their 4G speeds is quite slow and when I was using it with a faulty modem (5G not working) I'd get around 15-25mbps max lol

Just internet slang for donning the Jolly Roger using p2p.

It seems to be back to normal now with it being unrestricted.

Maybe unlimited plans are low priority during peak loads so they throttle "less important" usage

Just read the news today yes already rolled out their 5g advanced network in KV. I switched my modem to 5g SA, it can connect, first time seing 5g+ on my modem. Signal is definitely stronger. But speed is slow. Maybe still new. Hopefully we can enjoy the proper 5g sooner.

I noticed improvement after connecting as 5GSA on the jitter and ping, both download and upload speed is slightly slower.

I used Yes Flexi for a week, stay at 10th floor condo, using tp link deco 5g, it only connects to band n78, not n28+n78, so I am not sure it is connected to 5G Advanced or 5G SA.
