Fibre is Fibre optic, the 5G is 5G cellular networks, and the ads is misleading.

why called it Yes Wireless Fibre 120Mbps
when there is no guarantee to get 75% of speed most of the time like fibre speed
capping a best case basis is good for overall user experience
but for comparison digi infinite 150 (4G) with B618 can get up to 200mbps
5G got lower max peed than 4g haha

Here's question for YES.

Can I buy my own 5G modem which supports the local range of bands from Taobao/Lazada then opt for only SIM plan without contract from YES?

It's selling for less than RM800 now online.

Can or not YES?

I don't like signing on to long term contracts because I might be moving along with my job.
Also RM148 for a 100mbps plan seems too costly.

Can I buy a cheap 5G modem on my own then subscribe to a no contract plan from Yes Wireless Fibre or Unlimited 5G plan?

Why I cannot? What is the difference of using it in my phone or my own bought modem when you claim it's unlimited?

That Yes rebranded China made modem is overpriced liao at RM1199.

You can get one now for less than RM800 from Sh**ee or overseas online shopping sites.
Summore need to sign unfair 2 years contract of remaining months contract.

Won't likely work.

5G networks are even more intrusive and loaded with way more secure features than old 4G ones.

IMEI modifications won't work any longer. It can even detect MAC ID and use many more identifiers to detect devices which are unfavorable to the telco company.

For instance if you buy one of these modem on your own (BYO), the telco can set only their range of modems supplied by them will gain full access to their network throttling you down to miserable speeds.
That was one of the reason why some areas on YES network when their 5G network came online many of their customers complained that their lines were severely throttled despite having full bars signal strength and using quota based plans such as their 100GB Kasi Up plan.

Mobile hotspot 142GB?

How did you get that much hotspot traffic and quota? You use your phone as dedicated hotspot router? I can do that too with my secondary phone which is supported by the telco and turn it into a dedicated hotspot router device.

It just doesn't make sense what is the difference I place the SIM directly into a modem and consume that much of data? Data volume is still data correct? You want your subscriber to have satisfaction of your service why make their lives hard?

How is yes 5g performing in a high rise building? Say, 20-25 floors up? My management is taking a long time to fix the broken fibre and I’m stuck without fibre.

I'm using this since I can't get proper fiber due to construction next door. Speeds has been solid, even slightly faster than advertised. Upload speeds are very consistent, download can dip below 100 sometimes. Placement of the modem is important to get the best mobile signal, the config page shows signal strength so you can experiment with location.

Haven't tried a third party modem since I don't want to risk buying one and finding out there is some restriction on the sim or there is no improvement in speed.

Not sure if the speed cap is sim card or device locked? If anyone has tried hacking the modem or using a different modem, please share your experiences!

Not worth using their cheap low cost supplied modem which uses the cheapest chipset in the market.

Even ZTE modems the higher ends one MC801A and the newer MC8020 uses Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G modem chipset.

Hi all…

Today I’ve test yes infinite gateway H510 with other unlimited telco sim (u-home) restart and reonsert sim few time, it show sim error, then i swap to digi and restart…. Still the same, after that i swap with yes prepaid then restart .. walla it have line….

I try to change the apn and restart for other telco… seems
The gateway wont take any other telco… kindda funny because they all use the same band N78 / N28… not even show anything else just sim error…

i just wondering, if any of you have successfully set the gateway so it can use other sim? I knidda swipe the u-home because having 1000gb 4g/5g and it give public ip rather than yes giving prite ip… just wanna see the performance in that modem.

u don't make the H510 gateway spoilt, because there is other forumer here reported that the Yes sim doesn't works with other 5G router.

if your gateway spoilt after 1st year, but your contract is 2 years, then you have to fork out fortune to purchase the gateway from Yes again.

good luck to all Yes + gateway package users out there.

because just want to know if this option can be achieve .. especially after my contract finish,
since last time i remember with huawei device / phone after the contact finish can ask to unlock or it's automatically unlock,
so since last month it seems that my yes finish contract, i would try my luck inserting other telco see how...

already spent fortune paying RM148 X 2 for both yes 5g fibre, hopefully the modem are truly yours after finish contract,
by the way some people said the H510 are huawei some said ZTE... unsure which is true.
