Ah yes, northasian, about the 3 days unlimited Octopus card for tourist, I believe we can purchase it in HKIA itself. Yes, I'll be landing in directly in HKIA.

What i've read is they do provide this unlimited rides on transportation, but does it include ferry rides? I'm also planning to go to Macao, as I've got a friend, who is staying there. I'm not sure whether does this unlimited Octopus card covers this?

Also, once after the 3 days limit, we top up at any convenient kiosk or 7-11, as you've mentioned, will it still be "unlimited" rides on transportation? Or does the "unlimited" rides is expired and from then on, you'll be charged as you go along?

*
Yep, you can get the Tourist Octopus card at HKIA, the MTR counter in Arrival Hall.

Of coz not include other transportation rides than MTR. You can read thru the info in this website : http://www.octopuscards.com/consumer/help/...ts/en/index.jsp
It stated "Three days of unlimited rides on the MTR* (except on the Airport Express Line), starting on the day of your first MTR journey."

As it already said it's a 3-day limit of unlimited MTR rides, of coz after 3 days, your octopus card will be on "pay as you go" basis. So if you'd like to visit Macau, I'd suggest you go after the first 3 days of your trip.

Also, the tourist octopus card includes Airport Express Line (AEL) rides, so you should take AEL from HKIA to downtown so you won't waste the value...

p.s. forgot to remind you that ferry rides from HK to Macau v.v. cannot use octopus card to pay, you have to purchase ticket by cash (or credit card, not sure) at the ferry counter at the pier.

I will be going to HK via macau end of the month. Travelling with family and kids.

Is there any ferry from Macau to Disneyland (lantau island)?
or
I need to take ferry to HK island and take taxi from there to Disneyland?
*
No, there is no ferry service from Macau to Disneyland Hongkong.

Yes, you have to take ferry to HK Island or Kowloon (Tsim Sha Tsui) then take taxi (if you can afford) or MTR to Disneyland.

Hi sharkteef welcome back. The restaurant you mentioned is in Yuen Long, named "Dai Wing Wah", right?

Oh I don't know if Octopus card can be mailed back... then how do they refund the deposit to you?

hm.. I don't know much M'sian language... does ulu place mean rural area? Yuen Long can be regarded to be a rural area as well..

I haven't been Dai Wing Wah yet, 'coz I'm not quite interested in Tou Tou's favourite food in his show... tongue.gif

Did you eat seafood in Sai Kung or Lei Yue Moon or Lau Fau Shan? I tried seafood in Lei Yue Moon, damn nice too~~ thumbup.gif

We did talk about this issue earlier. Perhaps I have to put in #1 post...

Malaysian Passport Holders do not need visa to enter Hong Kong AND Macau.

my second night's dinner was at kowloon bay's wing wah. Mr tou tou's restaurant. Not the one in yuen long but in kowloon bay. have to que up damn early just to get place. lucky friend made booking. HKD 6k was the dinner bill for 11 ppl. Not really worth the money but good experience.

My 3rd night's dinner was pou chai fan at miu kai/temple street. Fabulous as well. 9ppl eat 9 claypot , 1 lala and some funky stuff i dun even know what. HKD 400 for all. Damn worth my money. further down there is shop sell snake soup with all the snake parts. Cool man !

All in all, i had the best tour guide there is in HK. She's been great ! thank god i went uni abroad.

if anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me. if u need octopus card, i still got 9 freaking cards with me unreturned. i can only return them when my friend from HK arrives in KL in february. so if u wanna purchase 1, i still have 9.

Welcome..

Hotels in Disneyland normally over HKD1000 per nite... if you've asked some travel agents and they said it's full, I'm afraid you have to try contact the hotel directly... Hotel may hold some rooms for their direct selling but rate would be higher.

Dorsett Seaview hotel is located in Yau Ma Tei, very close to Temple Street (can say just next to it). So you won't need to worry about food. Can't say nice food la, but those are very "localised" food (i.e. Genuine HK style). I rarely visit there, so sorry that I can't recommend any nice food around there. I think you won't stick to your hotel all the time, so just try to eat in other areas as recommended in my #1 post or recommended by other forumers.

Near your hotel, special place is Temple Street la, it's like Ladies street, and there are a lot of fortune-tellers stall too, can try~ Once I took my Japanese friends there and had the Chinese fortune-telling, it's quite accurate, haha... there got Tarot fortune-teller too.

From your hotel can walk to Mongkok and Jordan. In Jordan, opposite Yue Hua Chinese Department Store, there is a very famous cha charn teng called "Australia Dairy Company" (澳洲牛奶公司). I like their Steamed egg custard. Details can check this site: http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=90 (in Chinese only) Address: 47 Parkes Street, Jordan

Thanks for sharing~!

The hotel looks nice, but ngau tau kok seems nothing much other than the APM, and you gotta take MTR quite a few stations to downtown... Dorsett is less nice but location quite convenient indeed.

There is 2 hotel there. HK disney hollywood hotel is around 1200-1600 HKD depend on view. Disneyland hotel is more expensive. Can call to book directly from their site and price is not much different, very friendly staff.

HK one is MTR not MRT. MRT is the one in Singapore.

Prices of the 3 days unlimited tourist octopus card you can check from that website I posted earlier. I post out the website is for you guys to check for your own and find the most suitable info according to your needs.

Metropark on HK island I'm not that familiar, actually I am a "Kowloon people", so I am more familiar with Kowloon side places. I've said, when you travel, you won't stick to the area around your hotel all the time, you won't eat your 3 meals there, you can refer to our forumers' recommendations and try the nice food all around Hong Kong, rather than just find the nice food near your hotel.

MTR normally closed around 1am, please check the MTR website I posted on #1 for the exact time of last train for each station, thank you!

i only eat good food so cannot recommend. what i eat is pricey coz i dont have a budget when it comes to food.
and if u really want an octopus card, u can buy from me. i still got 9 of it. my 50 buck deposit still inside all 9 and still got remainder 30+ HKD unused inside. dont trust me, go to MTR buy lor. got plastic wrapper given wan.

northasian is right btw. u will not eat 3 meals at the same area. it'll be really weird if u do so. he/she is a kowloon person, i am more of a mongkok/tsim tsa tsui person. been so many times liao i still like those areas.

kowloon tong got one nice mall, i dunno whats the name. really huge. northasian u know whats it called ?
