Google already stopped supporting Android 11. Right now, Android 12 is the minimum supported version.

So, it is just a matter of time before banks stop supporting even Android 11.

I have a few advices for you and other people, for your next phone purchase:

1. Before buying new Android phone, do research on which brand has the best Android update policy. Here are the list: http://androidauthority.com/phone-update-policies-1658633/

2. When buying new Android phone, buy the one from brand that has the best Android update policy.

3. When buying new phone, buy the one with the latest OS.

My Samsung Galaxy A73 5G came with Android 12. I had updated it to Android 14. With Samsung's policy, I expect that my phone will get Android 15 or even 16.

That is the reason why buying more expensive branded phones despite the cheaper unbranded ones have better hardware for the same price.

What makes up for the hardware lacks the continued software support and customization efforts.

This is actually the KILLER feature of Apple products that no other brands can match them.

For Android phones you probably want to limit your choice with the bigger brands such as Samsung, GooglePhones, Motorola, OnePlus/Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo, Sony Xperia, Huawei.

All the other lesser known brands avoid even if they boasts superior hardware with similar pricing to inferior hardware branded models.

It seems some overseas banks also follow. Bank Of Ireland's app support minimum Android 11.

Actually, I understand why banks doing this, and accept it

Operating systems that no longer have security update may have vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities, if unfixed, may pose security issues to apps.

Security for banking apps cannot be compromised.

I always recommend people to update their devices' OS to the latest.

I think android phone .. no more security patch or still security patch, if user go put apk or open phishing links, sure kena hack

It is not the phone security patch. It is the user.

A person can use an android phone with security patch expired 2 years ago and yet still secure if he/she knows what to avoid doing.

If don't know how to stay safe, even the new s24 ultra max pro also can get hacked

Looks like need to constantly to buy chepo phones with latest OS rather than invest in flagship that cannot be used after few years.
