Anyone here using banking apps on your old Android phone but locked out because not allowed to update your apps anymore because you don't have Android 10 above?

To name a few:

PB Engage
UOB TMRW
CIMB Clicks

All cannot access anymore but funny thing is that their Singapore version all still supports Android 8/9.

Why the banks making it so inconvenient to their users? You say security then why their Singaporean branches overseas still adopt older versions and still consider their app safe?

Not all Malaysians can afford to change phones all the time and what is wrong with supporting older Android 8/9? You expect people just to change phones and accommodate your demands?

We are customers you serve us, why already did away with SMS TACs with Secure OTC not enough?

Who is the developer who suggested this silly idea to the banks? Even Singaporean banks also still support older Android version and consider their apps safe.

It's a security measure.
OS that no longer have ssecurity patches rolled out are not to be supported. Later you kena hack, blame bank pulak.
*
Singapore also still not adopted it yet.
Their UOB HQ Mighty app still available on Play Store.

How many people change phones so frequently to cater to your needs? SECURE TRANSACT not good enough after replacing SMS TACs?

This is causing unnecessary inconvenience and trouble to your customers.

At this time Maybank M2U, HLB Connect still working fine on older Android.

Android 10 above is still not popular among many. If Android 7 below maybe most people already abandon but Android 10 above??

It's not just replacing the phone, if you have many apps already installed in your phone like TnGo, many other banking apps, eCommerce apps. It's very troublesome to reinstall/migrate them into a new phone. All need reauthentication, one by one go through the step by step processes.

Moron one this banks.

These processes and steps cannot simply skip and rushed through one, if quickly done without properly setup sure will cause even more security holes and issues.

Not only that even Singapore which is way more advanced than Malaysia their banking apps still support older Android versions.

Who is the dumb person who came out with this idea again troubling all the banking customers?

Now I'm trying to pay my bills online this weekend got lockout for no reason, cannot even update them anymore...
The Secure OTC/OTP don't even come into my older version apps anymore.

These moron banks never thought it would inconvenience their customers before implementing this?

What am I supposed to do? Go out and buy myself a new phone just to cater your wants as a customer? You know how many apps I got in my phone to do migration?

Make a visit to your stupid branches and request for a SecureSign Token device on a working day when I'm busy at work with no time off?

Ada pakai otak punya kah the dumb executive officers? ranting.gif

You think everyone got the time to go to the bank during work days to collect it no need to work?

You are the banks and you serve your customers not the customers serve you.

How about you create a app version of your secure tokens? Just with that function nothing else? I would be happy to use the website version of the bank portal on my PC.

But how am I going to get my secure OTP/OTC now when your app don't even work at all during the weekends? shakehead.gif

Migrating from old phone to new can be indeed a pain in butt.

If u use a Xiaomi phone, can try the Mi Mover app to lessen the hassles.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...nji&hl=en&gl=US

There may be other phone migration apps out there, but this is the only one i know about.
*
With Banking and e-Transaction apps? No thanks. Automated migration apps using this method is very unsafe idea.

I wouldn't mind other apps and have thought about this risk.

They are forcing people's phone to become obsolete with their users to change phones every few years. This is big money with phone manufacturers.

Dirty tactics.

You sure they bodo? They can afford to hire better talents than us with their strong currency. People think very carefully before implementing new things not to inconvenient and cause difficulties for their customers.

Don't want to buy cheap phones they're even a bigger security threat if their firmware and ROMs are not properly designed.

My Android 8/9 phones are all Qualcomm SD based chipsets and branded.

I'm considering to move my accounts to other banks now due to the bank's inconsiderate move of abandoning their customers trust and inconveniencing them.

They're going to lose many faithful customers after this.

I'm not blaming others, it outright unnecessary and unthoughtful of the banks to catch their customers by surprise.

The banks too much money want to giveout token generators to all their customers?

For one bank which I don't want to mention, went the extra  miles by making customer life difficult by implementing transaction cooling-off period. Fund transfer to recent saved favorite account was flagged as abnormal by their algorithm and required further verification. Also, own FD redemption to own saving account also need approval by Secure TAC.

It's the same one I'm complaining now..

Your standard reply is u tak suka u, keluar right? It is institutionalized racism like your words which held back this country from moving forward and creating lots of enemies from around the world.

It for security reason. Alot macau scam happening. Can't compare to Singapore. Do you heard any news about Singaporean got macau scam? Here, it in the news almost daily

QUOTE(statikinetic @ Jun 24 2023, 06:02 PM)
Just because SG hasn't implemented does not mean we made a bad move.
This measure is from BNM, so all MY banks are in the midst of complying.

And this is one area BNM is ahead of MAS in implementing. If we are behind SG, always kena complain. In the things we are ahead of SG, also kena criticise.

At the end of the day, is a good measure to protect all consumers. Change with the times.
Face it. Your OS is obsolete and needs to be upgraded as a security measure.
*
I wouldn't fall for the trick of the corrupted parties behind this lame excuse blaming it all on older versions of Android OS.

For all you know someone or a corrupted party is actually lobbying behind BNM to push for this move to force Malaysians to upgrade and change their phones for sales. It could be anyone including foreign corporations from the Android camp.

You know there's more to this scam cartel in Malaysia. Don't just blame it all on BNM's directions.

Instead why not address corrupted and insiders in the banking IT depts and contractors who leaks out the databases? Also go about more creative ways in securing the entire transaction experience like multi level authentication with high amount of transaction value such as above 10k? Electronic version of the Secure Transact tokens generator which can only be installed on a single device at any one time for each account login?

It's been known tactic used by Google to force planned obsolescence on their Android devices. The thing is 3rd world countries like Malaysia are more susceptible to fall prey to such practices than first world countries because of inexperienced governance who listens to experts on their sides.

Hehe not my company la I’m just a vendor to the company that does work on that. It’s funny how people aren’t suspicious how come all the banks and BNM suddenly within one year want to phase out SMS completely and move to this app push approach. What’s crazy is there are no BNM audits or external audits on the banks’ implementation. So this is just mass hacking waiting to happen.
*
That's the thing, when you try to pay peanuts with limited budget allocation for important solutions things like this happens.

Where are the supposed trial testers and auditors that gave feedback about the planned obsolescence to force them on Android 10 above? Did they do a survey or check which Android version most of their customers were one before making decisions?

They really think Singaporean companies were less competent than them? Before they proceeded to force the apps on Android 10 user with newer versions of the app why immediately blocked out the old app immediately?
Why not still allow the old app to run alongside the new, push the update out and wait for feedbacks before shutting it down the older version once everything runs smoothly?

That way you don't lock the incompatible users out immediately.

Crooks themselves created the problem, crooks themselves offering the solution and more opportunities for themselves to make even more money.

What is the problem? We live in a country where even a $2B foreign transfer can make it into the country with the BNM governor not realizing about it.

Also it's proven that despite setting a transaction limit millions can still get through the system and transferred. Do you really blame older version of Android for it and not notice the elephant in the room?

One foreign bank with a "good reputation" allows their app to be used even on VERY ancient phones in India, and China.

But not in Malaysia.

Yet they still have a much safer track record than the local Malaysian banks who claims to have the most sophisticated app in store correct? laugh.gif

Really BS the banks instead of pointing fingers at the public why not they dig out their traitors within their organizations and have MACC open the can of worms on the app developers/solution contractors?

There were cases where despite setting transaction limits yet the scam money transfer in millions could get through. What about it?
