I would like to read opinion of those EV owners who are staying in a condo with only 2 available charging points & no plug point at their parking space.
*
My wallbox installer himself lives in a condo which prohibits installation of a wallbox, he drives 2-300km everyday so he charge at public charger, inconvenient but still possible

Just plug in to charger, car can still run with aircond on, so can do work or watch movies while the car is charging

how long does it take to full charge with 3 pin socket?
*
1.8-2kW an hour. A regular EV capacity is around 60kWh. So can roughly calculate

But totally not recommended to use 3 pin, so many burnt socket already

is it possible to fully charge the byd using solar panel installed on typical double storey house?
*
If im not mistaken in Malaysia u have to feed the solar energy back to TNB for contra. Cannot directly use solar power to charge the car. Correct me if im wrong

Can, but charging time can take up whole day.

Fast charger 7k+ watt, normal wall plug 3k watt max, and I not sure if it will sustain at 3k full time.
*
Nope 3 pin cannot reach 3kW.. max ive seen is 2kW only

Btw found the servicing cost for Malaysian user who just reach 20k km

Charging in shopping mall, does the power cut off automatically when full?
If it does cut off automatically, will people charging in shopping mall just occupy the charger until they finish shopping?
Just curious if people charging in shopping mall will disconnect the charger once it is full or just leave it there until they leave the mall.
*
Yes it does cut off when its full

Charging in mall is slow charger, most likely wont be able to fully charge the car even after spending 2 hours+ jalan2 in the mall

Do it have a charging profile like semakfong where battery near empty charge faster then slowly decreasing the charge rate?
*
Yes, but only for fast DC charger. This is the charging curve for BYD Atto3, different EV have different charging curve

user posted image

It maxes out at 89kW until battery hits 45%, then drops the charging speed to 60kW until battery hits 85%, then drops to 30kW until battery hits 95%, then drop to 15kW until full 100%

For AC charger it will maintain 6.3-6.6kW from start till finish

QUOTE(conan1 @ Jun 19 2023, 02:55 PM)
wrong.

can charge car with offgrid inverter. but need to setup panel - inverter - solar batteries.

no issues with off grid solar system.
*
I see, but those kind of system i bet can be quite expensive compared to NEM3.0

Jalan jalan +makan + watch movie easily exceed 4 hours. I’ll be frustrated if there are no free port while the occupied ports are occupied by fully charged cars. Not to say they are wrong for leaving fully charged car at the port.
*
Certain charge points have idle fees once completed charging

ChargeSini chargers in certain malls charges you rm1 for every 5 minutes if you do not unplug and move your car after it has been fully charged.

Other malls like klcc , gpo already ask u to park at premium parking to access the chargers

if replacement expensive, better have long guarantee.

8 years, but very unlikely to go wrong. Even if it did, by that time sure many specialist outside able to swap and recon the battery packs just like how ppl can refurbish engine/gearbox

Been an interesting read so far. So there's something stopping me from getting an EV, it's the roadtax. Sure, it's free now but 2025 onwards? Based on Paul Tan's post on EV's roadtax 2025 onwards, the BYD will cost RM903  puke.gif and just for another example; the KIA EV6 will cost RM3k.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think a lot of EV owners are clueless about this and they'll eventually get bill shock?
*
The roadtax thing is still under review by ministry of transport, the rm903 roadtax is if based on previous calculation. And Anthony Loke said he will release new calculation method by the end of the year

No idea, probably half the price of the car, but that one is for a full battery swap, it can be changed by module/pack..

Thanks for the info. Based on his tone, sounds like he's aware that the calculation is too high and it's likely reduced. How about charging the EV outside? You posted that it's "free", is it common in most malls?
*
I actually got a ChargEV subscription. It cost RM240 annually and you can charge as much as you want on their slow chargers. Most malls are using the chargers from ChargEV companies.

But there are also malls that use chargers from different company such as parkeasy and chargesini, their slow chargers are not free so i avoid those unless really cannot find parking so just pay and plug in.

Then theres also malls which do not have any apps on them, simply park and cucuk cable to get free charging, as the one in GPO, KLCC, Wangsa Walk and Sunway Velocity

seem like almost double. probably still going for "wait and see" approach to decide on EV.. one, on the electric tarrif, another is on the road tax decision.
*
Fair point, also wait until sub rm100k ev's start selling, than more worth it for city drive

Now this made me curios, are you charging at malls and/or subscribing to ChargeEV because now it's free and cheap? Or if those are paid you would just charge at home instead?

I guess the main question is actually how often do you charge away from home, since my reading is most EV owners charge at home anyway.
*
Yup, i charge at malls just because its free and close to the entrance, if it's not free then its not worth it, just charge at home only..

For normal city drive and u have home charging, can totally not rely on the public charger..
