Hai guys, lama tak buka tered pasal kereta. As some u know, I sold my old Suprima earlier. And had it replaced with an EV.

Why EV/BYD Atto 3?

- Want something with similar characteristic as Suprima, big boot space, huge rear legroom, must have many features such as pano roof, AEB, lane keep, adaptive cruise etc etc

- Need to be powerful (over 160hp) yet with minimal maintenance

- I dont have any kampung to balik to, so no range anxiety, even if need to go for that maybe twice a year out of KL trips, can take other car

- To carry stuffs when needed, other cars at home boot too small to fit large item

user posted image

- Looked at competitors:

Honda HRV : 140k car with Honda City Interior, seats too firm, boot too small and CVT puik. Honda CRV: Too old

Mazda CX-30 : Cramped interior, Boot too small

Peugeot 3008/VW Tiguan : Not much features to play with, no adaptive cruise control, AEB etc etc

Ora Good Cat: Boot too small, slow charging.

CHARGING, How much does it cost?

- Over a month, I only driven 1535km

And here is my home energy usage

Roughly RM 120++ for 1500km distance, this I set my wallbox charging app to count using TNB highest block electricity tariff. I also charge outside when I go mall to makan, charging outside is free, only pay for parking.

My fav is Sunway Velocity and Wangsa Walk

Sounds cheap right? Actually is not, because to upgrade my house electricity (RCB/MCCB from 40amps to 63amps) since my house was from the 80's cost RM3.5k, the wallbox itself is free from BYD, but installation cost is Rm1.2k.

Where is the furthest you've ever driven it?

- Not far, furthest is from home to KLIA then straight to Seremban. then pusing2 seremban town. around 140-150km.. Battery left 70%

- Stayed at Royale Chulan Seremban, they allow 3 pin charging there. So plug in at night, next day checkout battery already fully charged, again... Free of Charge

So yeah, this is my experience with EV now. Feel free to ask anything in regards to EV or even the car itself. Ill answer it truthfully, unbiased based on my personal POV.

if u can choose again, hybrid or fulll ev?

Have you tried to sleep in it while turning on AC? This is the only advantage for me to travel around.

Since it's only been a month, can't feel battery degradation yet?

I found BYD designs are always at least 5 years backwards, how do you like the designs?

if its my only car, maybe hybrid (actually dont like hybrid, see 330e,a6 hybrid, c350e so many issues). But since my house got few other cars to use, then I would still go for full EV.
Take full advantage of the tax free status, free roadtax, currently most ev charging station at malls are not at full utilized so easy parking in malls, and get tax rebate on home charger..

Yes, that is also one of the reason I chose EV, because while waiting for people can sleep in the car with AC on, tried, no issues

BYD Design is considered safe design to me, not too offensive but not too boring either.

Battery degradation wise, I have been following BYD owners group Thailand, over there got Atto 3 already travel 160k km, but less than 5%

1. How long do you intend to keep the EV before selling?
2. Insurance include perils coverage?
3. What is this house amp? Is normal 3 phase enough? Cannot use existing electric setup?
4. How long does it take to charge? Looks like cost is half of petrol.
5. Does charging time affect your schedule? Need to hunt for EV bays? Need to queue? Since you mentioned need to sleep in car. Do you have dependents/running errands?
6. How much does battery replacement cost?
7. Battery degradation <5 years for Thailand in a year? That is steep really.
8. How much is the service cost? How much does the major service cost? Average cost of service for 200k km mileage? For me it is RM1.1K average until 200k km.

Looking at the car budget there, you could actually get a fairly recent used sorento/sportage diesel. But then used car la. First time using diesel, I like it.

Like you, I am an ex suprima owner 2013. Sold 2017 for RM42K. Bought a Kia Sorento UM diesel. 7 seat SUV. My fuel cost is half of suprima. Full tank Euro 5 diesel RM140. I get 750km in town. I refuel full tank every 6 weeks town driving. I drive everyday, though the distance is about 20+km. Long distance, I get 900+ km. If I stick to speed limit and like 90 km, can pass 1000 km range. I have to do long distance balik Kampung few times a year. Kota Bharu - Batu Pahat/Kuala Pilah. Only half tank used. Suprima, need to refuel halfway. Since I am in Kota Bharu, there are only 2 free public charging stations in KB. Nothing anywhere else in Kelantan. EV for my case will not work, unless distance exceeds 1000km due to the long distance travel. Also this is my only car. Good all rounder.

How would you compare the drive and handling to an ICE car? Insta torque enjoyable?

Did they give you a service schedule? It should be less times than ICE IINM.

1. Probably around 10 years

2. Yes. Insurance cost the same as regular car

3. Most houses are single phase, they recommend if u have more than 3 airconds should upgrade to 3 phase, my house have 6 airconds but only 3 airconds running most of the time, wanted to upgrade to 3 phase but macam kena con by electrician saying will cost 8-10k to upgrade, i checked other people less than 4k can kawtim already, 3 phase also good if u have plan to install solar panel later as suruhanjaya tenaga limits the capacity of solar if u only use single phase

4. If from empty which usually never the case, since u can plug in every day. Should take around 8 hours. But for me I like to charge when the battery gets to 60%. And the wallbox can set the ampere on how fast to charge, maximum is 32 amps. I usually set under 10amps since i dont need it to charge quickly. Thus reducing the load of my house electricity

5. Totally not, i most of the time charge at home only. Outside charging only when i find a free one. The sleep in car part is because I usually send my family members for them to run their errands, so instead of following them, I just stay in the car enjoy aircond and watch netflix on the big centre screen

6. No clue how much, but all i know is very easy to total loss the car if accident, once hit the battery pack insurance will consider beyond economic repair, thus why taking agreed value insurance very important

7. No idea on this, 5% for 160k km travelled seems very low to me. My suprima almost 10 years when I sold it the mileage was less than 130k km

8. This also no idea, the first inspection service at 5k km is free, the next service is every year or 20k km whichever comes first. Got someone in byd club malaysia service 20k km kena rm300.

List of service item is just aircond cabin filter, reduction gear oil, brake fluid and coolant

P/S: managed to sell the Suprima for 16k only

Unlike other EV, this BYD is setup to mimic a regular ICE car. So no fast acceleration feeling unless u enter sport mode..

Handling wise, its so so so damn comfortable when driving normally, lalu pothole also no feel, my passengers everytime naik kereta will fall asleep... but its a typical china car setup, cannot take corner one body roll quite heavy and lifeless overassisted steering feel. It feels stable though coz the battery pack is on the floor.. It feels similar as my family bmw g28 330Li, a China market car. Heck, i tested on Suke highway, the bmw rolls even more than the BYD

No given service schedule, based on current owner feedback, first service at 5k km is free, then next service is every 20k km or 1 year, need to pay but dunno how much

Best

- super duper clear 360 camera
- adaptive cruise control with stop n go, very stress free in the jam, on a 300k bmw this needs to be retrofitted outside and will cost almost 20k to do it
- very nice sounding stock audio system, beats the hell out of stock BMW audio
- phone app to control the car lock unlock start on aircond, on a bmw all these need to pay subscription to access, this one free
- V2L feature means can go camping bring all electrical items, car becomes a giant powerbank
- centre screen is essentially an android tablet with play store, can watch netflix YouTube disney+ etc etc

So far no useless features yet, but i turned off lane departure warning though. Very annoying, unlike german car that just vibrates the steering, this car damn loud beeping siren

U mean u can switch on the aircon n screen while charging n engine is off? Can do this for 6 to 8 hours if at camping?
Are the seats comfortable for sleeping, at least recline by 60deg?

Hopefully Loke gets to fine-tune the road tax structure before the exemption ends. Though the Atto3 should be RM903 based on current Tax structure. Boy96 willing to pay?

All speed adaptive cruise control 2017 JDM Toyota Chr already have. Yours will auto resume? Mine will need to step on the pedal or press a button to resume when the car has come to a complete stop

is it true BYD owners have higher tendency to ajak drag race at traffic light?

Jokes aside, how's the acceleration from zero? What kind of car comes close (to its acceleration trait)?

Also not mentioned if yours is SR or ER, but looks like ER from the rims. Range given is 420km based on WLTP. If you have measured, what would be the energy consumption or total range for different speed range, i.e. at 90km/hr, 110km/hr, 130km/hr and 150km/hr?

What's your current view on the DC chargers availability, reliability, user experience and cost for outstation travel, and especially north of KL like KL-PNG? From observation, KL-JHR route has relatively higher number of DC chargers, and severely lack of charging facilities for interstate travel considering the number of EVs on the road.
