Any fellow superbike riders out there?
I just picked this up a few weeks ago (2nd hand). ![]() Yamaha YZF-R6 50th Anniversary I've installed integrated LED lights, HIDs, Akrapovic Megaphone S/O Exhaust, Puig Smoked Windscreen and some other minor items. Trying to get rid of that "chicken strip." I'm a little less scared to ride it now - when I first got it...wow, scared to open that throttle up. |

BELIEVE it or not, Soichiro Honda applied for a patent for ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) in 1959.
Yes, Honda bikes later gave the world a disc brake in 1969 and now they are changing the world again with the new Combined ABS. -taken from cbt- Do you know that ABS originate from 1959 and it's from Honda. And even lambo and Ferrari had to copy the patented Disc brake design from Honda(japs) and now they are changing the world again with combined ABS. So whoever that said that Honda is left behind is totally wrong, cause Honda is actually inventing the Technology and others will follow it. So whoever that is bragging that Honda bikes or cars are not good, they better take the history lesson cause their conti/other japs/ american etc car has something linked with the so hated Honda. I am so proud with Honda... This post has been edited by masz94: Nov 4 2010, 08:23 AM |

Really good condition actually the condition is just okay, i did some photoshop to touch it up =) there are scratches on the fairing, bar ends, tank fairing, and tail - the previous owner must have dropped it on both sides. Also notice the clutch lever end is broken. mechanic says it needs a new cam adj tensioner. new toy = more $$$ but fun fun! lol, i rarely tapau nasi kandar, but i make a trip to Subaidah every now and then Added on November 4, 2010, 8:41 am QUOTE(Cyprid Dark ii @ Nov 3 2010, 09:31 PM) Congrattttzzz!! exhaust is a slip on - the Akrapovic Megaphone is an open pipe (no muffler/packing) so it's pretty loud.Nice 50th Anniversary edition! QUOTE(kapalterbang_737 @ Nov 4 2010, 08:49 AM) Tomorrow deepavali holiday got private trackday at sepang..u can join and learn ive got a pair of Alpinestars Track Vented Leather pants with the knee sliders, and matching SMX5 Boot - doubt I'll ever get that knee down soon, but I've been trying the body positioning on the turns, but not quite confortable sticking my knee out way off the peg with my head and body hanging out over the side of the bike. =/btw, I'm in the states, not in M'sia anymore, so the local tracks are Willow Springs, or Laguna Seca. Added on November 4, 2010, 5:40 pm QUOTE(ben_panced @ Nov 4 2010, 08:52 AM) wait until you ride a 1000cc.. then suddenly you will find your bike too slow.. not sure if i will ever go up to 1000cc, i think its too dangerous. i've seen too many people over throttle mid-corner and slide the rear out and end up with a bad highside.haha but for me 1L bike is too much lol, the acceleration is too fast for normal road the torque on the r6 is quite low, so i can be a bit free on the throttle. i've heard for the same reason the 250R is good at the track - you can just hold that throttle down and throw caution into the wind. =) my friend with the GSXR750 says the 600's are for girls! he said his exgf used to ride a 600!! During lowspeed, like if you need to ride at walking speed, engage the rear brakes slightly, your slow speed will be straight as zip. I learned this from "Ride Like a Pro" DVD. Steering damper is to alter the steering natural frequency that causes wobble, which is very dangerous (Google for ' bike wobble'). Or, it could happen when the front wheel had lost and regained traction. Example, hitting a pothole or bad road surface during a med-high speed corner. Danger is when tire regained traction, it may wobble out of control as the bike continues to go at a different direction. - From what I've read, if encounter this, jump off and save yourself. - From a friend's experience, he couldn't get free of the bike, so he freed the clutch and pulled the throttle (One explanation is that the increased RPM lead to an increased engine gyro and stabilized the bike), did not apply any brakes and he leaned the bike to steer to the right direction, and the wobbling stops as the bike slowed. (for both z750 and z1000) You can consider ZRX1200R as well, its a 5 speed retro kawasaki muscle bike, doesn't suit everyone's taste though. |

QUOTE(CHiNO730 @ Nov 5 2010, 03:20 AM) alexei, usually...just try to calm dawn and put a very steady hand on the handle bar. control the bike not allowing it to wobble too much, no brake, and steer the bike to safe place, keeping a cool head is very important..i like the feedback - i will try rear brake during walking speed, like when i park my bike. i think jumping off the bike is the same level of danger as trying to save the bike and going down with it. the last suggestion is very interesting...does it really work? does the engine flywheel have enough inertia to act as a reasonably strong gyro to counteract the wobble of the 180kg motorcycle? very interesting, but few have the reflex and the wisdom to overcome the fear when tank slappers start to occur. i really like the idea though - I need to do some research on that. thanks for the input! but when it happen upon exiting/entering a corner..very well then.. steering damper will help you if you really a speed maniac, but a slow speed, its more a burden really, at least for me. my suggestion is avoid the track for now. learn to control the bike in low speed first. get some good feel of reflex. you will need that on the track familiarize yourself with the bike, feel what its like in any gear, in any throttle position. yes you can simply ride very slow on the track by giving the excuse of "newbie", but it might just put you and other track user in danger. still remember during my Kipper days when track days, there will always be a lot of big bike who simply go slow, blocking race line, the reason is "learning"... |

QUOTE(CHiNO730 @ Nov 5 2010, 03:20 AM) alexei, It is difficult to measure between the likeliness to recover from a wobble, or not.i like the feedback - i will try rear brake during walking speed, like when i park my bike. i think jumping off the bike is the same level of danger as trying to save the bike and going down with it. the last suggestion is very interesting...does it really work? does the engine flywheel have enough inertia to act as a reasonably strong gyro to counteract the wobble of the 180kg motorcycle? very interesting, but few have the reflex and the wisdom to overcome the fear when tank slappers start to occur. i really like the idea though - I need to do some research on that. thanks for the input! When it happens, it's a split second decision. The normal reflex is to have the grip on the steering as it tries to shake off the rider. It is better to be sliding as far away from the machine as possible. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « My friend was lucky he was able to recover from the wobble and steer, right before hitting the guardrail. He was on a 100kg single 2-stroke racer, which would produce much lesser engine gyro than a 4-cyl the likes of an R6. He has since serviced his forks and hope never have to go through that again. This is far from your question about steering damper, hope it helps. |
