Any fellow superbike riders out there?

I just picked this up a few weeks ago (2nd hand).

Yamaha YZF-R6 50th Anniversary

I've installed integrated LED lights, HIDs, Akrapovic Megaphone S/O Exhaust, Puig Smoked Windscreen and some other minor items.

Trying to get rid of that "chicken strip."

I'm a little less scared to ride it now - when I first got it...wow, scared to open that throttle up.

The Camel yellow edition..nice.

Ride it more, everyday, even when going to tapau nasik kandar biggrin.gif This will help you familiarise yourself with the bike low speed handling. Only then go for high speed chase biggrin.gif

Congratulations biggrin.gif

anyway, its 2nd hand? Really good condition  thumbup.gif

lower speed handling is still quite difficult for me, especially parking lots, underground structures, small spaces, etc.

actually the condition is just okay, i did some photoshop to touch it up =)
there are scratches on the fairing, bar ends, tank fairing, and tail - the previous owner must have dropped it on both sides. Also notice the clutch lever end is broken.

mechanic says it needs a new cam adj tensioner. new toy = more $$$

but fun fun! lol, i rarely tapau nasi kandar, but i make a trip to Subaidah every now and then thumbup.gif

Congrattttzzz!!

Nice 50th Anniversary  edition!
BTW,How much you pay for the R6?
& the exhaust thing,is your exhaust just a slip on can or full system....??Gotta love the sound it make!

Dont be afraid to lose out the chicken strip like me lol biggrin.gif (Even after lotsa trackday I attend..still quite scared to go faster around the corner.. laugh.gif  )

Hmmm...50k R1 08 model?moto seberang kaa ?

exhaust is a slip on - the Akrapovic Megaphone is an open pipe (no muffler/packing) so it's pretty loud.
i think i need a good track day to help me learn.

what do you ride?
people recommend that i get some type of steering damper for the track - but they are quite expensive. what do you think?

Tomorrow deepavali holiday got private trackday at sepang..u can join and learn scrapping knee handling the bike there  tongue.gif
*
ive got a pair of Alpinestars Track Vented Leather pants with the knee sliders, and matching SMX5 Boot - doubt I'll ever get that knee down soon, but I've been trying the body positioning on the turns, but not quite confortable sticking my knee out way off the peg with my head and body hanging out over the side of the bike. =/

btw, I'm in the states, not in M'sia anymore, so the local tracks are Willow Springs, or Laguna Seca.

wait until you ride a 1000cc.. then suddenly you will find your bike too slow..
haha but for me 1L bike is too much lol, the acceleration is too fast for normal road
*
not sure if i will ever go up to 1000cc, i think its too dangerous. i've seen too many people over throttle mid-corner and slide the rear out and end up with a bad highside.
the torque on the r6 is quite low, so i can be a bit free on the throttle. i've heard for the same reason the 250R is good at the track - you can just hold that throttle down and throw caution into the wind. =)

my friend with the GSXR750 says the 600's are for girls! he said his exgf used to ride a 600!! blink.gif

I ride kapcai, here's my thots:

During lowspeed, like if you need to ride at walking speed, engage the rear brakes slightly, your slow speed will be straight as zip. I learned this from "Ride Like a Pro" DVD.
- From what I've read, if encounter this, jump off and save yourself.
- From a friend's experience, he couldn't get free of the bike, so he freed the clutch and pulled the throttle (One explanation is that the increased RPM lead to an increased engine gyro and stabilized the bike), did not apply any brakes and he leaned the bike to steer to the right direction, and the wobbling stops as the bike slowed.

alexei,

i like the feedback - i will try rear brake during walking speed, like when i park my bike.
i think jumping off the bike is the same level of danger as trying to save the bike and going down with it.

the last suggestion is very interesting...does it really work? does the engine flywheel have enough inertia to act as a reasonably strong gyro to counteract the wobble of the 180kg motorcycle? very interesting, but few have the reflex and the wisdom to overcome the fear when tank slappers start to occur. i really like the idea though - I need to do some research on that.

thanks for the input!
