Hi all, got my PR approved recently and got an appointment slot for next week. I was wondering how long after does it take to receive your IC after completion of formalities?

In terms of the photo - can a t-shirt be sufficient (black) or does it need to be collared?

Thanks!
*
Grats!

It's about 2 weeks from the day you get the formality done.

For photo, anything will do. I used a random photo that i took 4 years ago but they didn't check. Basically, the same photo as my driving license. If you want to look good on your ic can always go for professional photo. Haha.

Thank you! Just wondering - for Singpass stuff I will have to re-enroll right? It's not automatic from what I've read? As well as banks etc.
*
Yes, everything has to restart. They will send you a singpass activation code in about a week or 2. You have to update ur bank details etc, which I have yet to do it .. mainly I have been procrastinating the whole time. Haha

Do we need to provide our Singapore PR IC number to the singapore bank?

I thought Malaysians use their Malaysian IC number to open a bank account in singapore, but not a work pass ID.
My DBS bank, OCBC bank, and Maybank savings accounts in Singapore all use my Malaysian IC number to open.
*
Yes you have to.

I was using my FIN to open back then, or passport. I don't rmb using my IC coz I didn't have it with me back then.

Anything related to sg u have to update them. Even driving license. So troublesome

Even remote working also possible even though with S pass?
*
If he has a residential address in singapore. Back in the days those living in malaysia could get PR but since the game has changed, likely they will not issue a PR if you're staying outside of Singapore despite employed in singapore. After all, PR stands for permanent resident. If you're not staying in Sg you're not even a resident to begin with.

I have some colleagues who recently got Singapore PR. They commute daily from JB to SG for work and do not stay in Singapore.
*
I would say good luck renewing their PR in 5 years time. My uncle was only given a year extension because he commutes daily. Now he rents a place just to renew his PR.

It is compulsory to have Singapore residential address when applying .. did they apply with malaysia address? I doubt so .. maybe they have a relative address to tag to.

I actually haven't applied
Been working for 8 mths only
Some said just pay $100 apply, some said wait 1 year after I paid tax only apply
But I think it really base on personal qualifications, experience and maybe some luck

I still want to obtain PR, for CFP, better opportunity when I look for other jobs
But the rent here is killing most of my pay
So I thought of moving out SG and bring my wife n baby come stay together in JB (they are in KL now)

Not sure should I apply PR now before I move to JB will have big impact on my application or not
*
Not a wise choice to move to JB and commute daily. It will somehow affect your chance of getting a PR. After all, PR is a Residency pass not a working pass. While there's precedence, does not to equate of you getting it. Maybe those who actually got it used Sg as their corresponding address instead of My. So, if you have a relative in sg you can use their address for it. If you don't, best to stay in sg until you get your PR.

Just apply now since you have worked for more than 6 months. We don't really know what the criteria are. I think they have a certain quota for certain pass to keep a stable community. They need skilled, likewise low to mid skilled workers. From what we been seeing, s-pass may take up to a year to get your PR approved. EP holders usually get the priority. Most I know get it within 6 months from their application.

In your case, I think you need to update your address on Singpass and with ICA when you actually move to JB.

How long has it been since you applied for PR?
*
You should stop this false narration. While they commute daily, we don't know if they have a residential address in sg that they used for their application. You need a Singapore address during application.

They just need the mailing address.

You can put company address....
The PR approval letter itself was received by email as a soft copy.
After that, I received letters from CPF (informing me about having a CPF account and Medisave Life), a new Singpass password, and Great Eastern insurance.

I then went to ICA for document submission, and about one or two weeks later, I collected my IC at the Singapore Post Office.

These letters will not affect your ability to complete document submission at ICA or collect your IC at the post office.
| No. | Criterion                     | Description           |
1   Foreign Investor                                   If you are a foreign investor in Singapore.
2   Student                                             If you are a student studying in Singapore.
3   Elderly Parent of a Citizen                        If you are the elderly parent of a Singapore citizen.
4   Employment Pass (EP) or S Pass Holder               If you hold an EP or S Pass.
5   Unmarried, Under 21, Born in Legal Marriage or Adopted If you are unmarried, under 21, born in a legal marriage, or adopted by a Singapore citizen or PR.
6   Spouse of PR or Citizen                             If you are the spouse of a Singapore PR or citizen.
ICA does not specify a required duration of residence in Singapore before you can apply for PR.

Some Malaysians who studied in Singapore for primary or secondary school (with parents not being Singapore PRs or citizens) have received PR upon completing their O-levels or A-levels with excellent results.
They wake up at 4 AM, enter Singapore by 5 AM, and return to JB by 2 PM, Monday to Friday.
*
No .. here's a reply from ICA .. you need a residential address.

https://ask.gov.sg/ica/questions/clxwhkiyi00f0dsotcvlrc6ce

You do know that foreign students have to pay international rate right? So you're expecting parents that do not have PR would send the kids to study in singapore?

Anyway, for working, you need to provide 6 months working slip, hence it is not possible to apply PR without those, right?

If you visit JB, you might observe that many individuals from the T20 group reside here.

A visit to Eco World Property commercial area or big shopping malls in jb will provide a clearer view.
Actually, if you live in JB, you would know that in the morning around 4 AM or 5 AM, many school vans can be seen entering JB Customs. Some of these vans carry children as young as 7 years old.

JB has many international schools, with monthly school fees around RM 2000. Some believe that studying at Singapore government schools is better.

If you come to jb,you will know many T20 person live at jb.

Just go Eco World property or shopping mall......

Typically, the parents of these Malaysian students are not PRs. If they were PRs and worked in Singapore, they could rent a room there.

You do know that you have to pay around 10k sgd for a year to study in sinvapore right? Compared to PR you only pay 300 sgd per year. I know many students commute daily but how sure most of them were not PR?

Those T20 can afford to send them over to study. But did they get a PR without a singapore residential address? That's what I want to know. And, do you think every students are T20? If they can go for international schools why would they want to go singapore? Even my boss sends her kid to international sch instead of local because the school fees are similar.

I'm now staying in SG
My Singpass all SG address

Will still try to submit application before I move to JB in Nov24

Do note .. if your landlord removes your name from the unit, they will be able to trace. And, that will somehow affect your PR application getting rejected.

I always remove tenant names after they move out. Risky to leave them there in case of Ah Long activities.

You still have to pay tax if you're renting, right? So somehow you will need to remove your tenants when they move out.

What are you talking about? You said your relative’s IC was issued in 1992. And you said he was born in 1988.

4 year old kids don’t get ICs.

You gotta stop whatever it is you’re smoking bro… and fast.
*
Maybe young PRs do? Not too sure. My daughter uses her birth cert as her IC. Maybe the same for his case?

Anyway, the question is, why would TS being overly concerned of it? Does it really matter though? As long he gets an IC why bother? Haha

Birth Cert number is the same as IC number - you are correct, but TS said IC not birth cert… hence my confusion

Well, have to wait for TS to clarify.

Anyway, wonder any PRs getting or has gotten a house recently? The market is crazily high despite the cooldown measures. But the BTO launching on oct is so tempting ..

PR cannot buy BTO right?

Yeah we can't, unless your SO is a citizen. But the projects are so tempting for the offered locations. Resale is sky high now. Basically, with the price, we could easily get a prime BTO.

Singles must wait reached 35 years old only can buy a resale HDB flat in Singapore..........
As a single person in Singapore, you have two choices for HDB housing.

You can either apply for a 2-room Flexi BTO (built-to-order) flat from HDB in a non-mature estate or buy a resale HDB flat.
However, in both cases, you must wait till you are 35 years old (unless you are widowed or orphaned).
Kesian...........
*
Rules have changed. Singles can buy anywhere le, not limited to non mature.

Resale is way too high now, making BTOs seem to be cheap.

Singapore citizens (unmarried) aged over 35 CAN buy resale HDB flats and 2-room Flexi BTO (built-to-order) right?
*
PR alone cannot buy any HDB, only private properties. You need 2 PRs to buy a HDB, only limited to resale and no subsidy from government.

Yes, above 35 citizen can buy either resale or 2rm bto. But alot of good 2rm bto this coming bto. Especially, at kallang/whompoa area.

Someone just told me you can buy older HDB flats with around 35- 50 years left on the lease.

These flats are cheaper, and you can rent out the rooms to others.

[ New HDB flats come with a 99-year lease. ]
Blocks 45, 48 & 49 Stirling Road,Queenstown are were the first few blocks of flats completed in October 1960, just months after the Housing and Development Board (HDB) was formed in February 1960.
*
Those are too old for me and they are usually those flats that we usually see in HK drama (an alley between units). Not feasible for my family and we do not have any intention of renting out. I am looking at late 90s to early 20s and yet I am already stretching my budget. Could easily get a BTO wit the same budget with a better location.
