Freshly converted shitizen here, second gen renounce PR prior to NS is allowed but frowned upon, SG gahmen has many known but unspoken rules, you’ll find it difficult to seek employment in the future for sure.

By the way a lot of Malaysians wants the benefit of PR but won’t contribute and integrate into society, your Singaporeans colleagues damn buay song you, sekian.
*
Most want the benefit of PR but stay in malaysia. I really facepalm la ..

I'm not sure whether she is working or not at this moment, but before marrying my friend, she was a work permit holder.

But now they have a 4-year-old kid, so if she wants to become a fulltime housewife, there's nothing wrong with that, right?
*
By right, yes. And it should be easier if she's a Malaysian. It used to be easy. My sister in law who is a housewife gets her PR under her husband sponsorship but that was about 20 years ago. Now things has changed. They emphasize more on quality over quality. So your colleague may need to earn more. People are trying to be a PR by tagging onto spouse, while it increases the chance of being accepted but not necessarily now.

Even our TS also mentioned he wanted to pull the same stunt and do the daily commute…. So it’s not uncommon, but it does go contrary to the spirit of the idea of PR.
*
I agree. I'm not surprised quite a few of them already asked similar questions. E.g. can I stay in malaysia and apply PR at the same time, etc .. but I'm not surprised and it is a common practice for those living in JB. They want to reap the benefit of both world by sacrificing their health. That is their choice and we could only share our experience. Not trying to be lofty or whatsoever here, but I think PR should stay in Singapore. Else what's the meaning of having a PR? Like what you have said .. contrary to what PR is for

Thabks for your insight. Let's see how it goes.
Not job security for my kids.  They would do fine. Its the parents job security. Imagine lost job so have to go back malaysia probably. Kids have to serve 2 years of NS which in a way they will lose up to Malaysian that does not need to serve. But that said I was told they do get sgd1000 /month for serving NS. something to consider.
*
If you have a PR why are you worried? You won't be kicked out of Singapore unlike having a work pass. And, it is easier for you to get a job. Basically a PR = citizen in term of work employment. Else, you can always grab as a PR .. haha

Yes. Because the vagueness suits the government’s plan and purpose. If an ex PR turns out to be a valuable asset, exceptions will be made to retain this talent.

If an ex PR is just another run of the mill mid-tier performer, you can kiss your job prospects in Singapore goodbye.
*
I know a reputable person who used to be a Singaporean and gave up his citizenship to be an Australian. He came back to Sg to work but has never been offered a PR. Not sure if he didn't apply or he couldn't apply. But you're right. If you're a talent, they will take you back regardless of what you did in the past. Unless you have done something vicious or ..

Humans nature. Greed and vain. We always wanna earn more and flaunt our wealth in any mean. So they come over to sg work as blue collar and flaunt their wealth in malaysia .. buy house buy car, etc just by capitalising the exchange rate.

Nowadays, even local Singaporeans are living in Danga Bay condos, similar to how some Hong Kong residents retire in Shenzhen, China.

Once the RTS is completed, I'm sure many Singaporeans will live in Johor Bahru. Singapore especially north area Rental prices have already become a bit cheaper now.
The Menteri Besar ofJohor has visited both customs around 100 times, and now there's no more jam like before 18 March 2020.

Very good.
*
I hope more move out. So I can get a cheaper unit to stay. Hahaha ..

Really ish chao kuan.

Sinkie doesn't like PR mostly because they can run road with CPF once they renounce PR upon retirement while Sinkie is stuck in SG + PR gets a lot of benefits.

Malaysians, if you intend to spend a large part of your life in SG, do make effort to integrate and contribute to the society.

Please don't go SG 几够力一下 and complain SG if you want to make a living here.
*
Ok la .. PR buy house no benefit ma .. only singkie .. can buy BTO .. got grant for resale, etc. But Malaysian PR all run home stay and come back to work in the morning .. PRC PR are freaking rich just splurge on resale. POOR singkie complain but in fact the RICH singkie flip those HDB along with those agent shouting huat ah!

Well said. Contribute and reap your fair reward. Don’t game the system and extract only the benefits like a parasite.
*
But majority Malaysians are parasites. Come earn sgd > apply PR > no get complain but get then abuse. What's their purpose of PR then? Just for the gains, such as job security, CPF, etc.

3.54/6.04 *100 = 60.26 percent is Singapore citizen
39.73 is Non-Singapore Citizen..

6:4 ratio !!!!
Singapore population crosses 6 million mark

The increase was due mainly to the 5 per cent growth in the non-resident population
SINGAPORE – Singapore’s total population stood at 6.04 million as at June 2024, a 2 per cent rise from June 2023, the Government’s latest Population in Brief report showed.

This is the first time the figure has crossed the six million mark.

The increase was due mainly to a 5 per cent increase in the non-resident population, which grew from 1.77 million in June 2023 to 1.86 million in June 2024, said the annual report released on Sept 24 by the National Population and Talent Division (NPTD).

The increase in non-resident workers, including work permit holders and migrant domestic workers, helped to provide much-needed services to meet Singaporeans’ social and economic needs, for instance by supporting caregiving needs, and by filling occupations that residents are typically not keen on, such as construction jobs, said the NPTD in a statement.

Residents continued to take higher-paying jobs, with employment growing in sectors such as

financial and insurance services, information and communications, and professional services,

it pointed out, where the high labour force participation rate remained robust and unemployment rates of residents and citizens remained very low.

I'm curious why was there a fall of 30k of PR during pandemic? That's about 5% drop, which is alot.

icic.. Do you mean your EP152 form is more than two weeks the also has no questions during formalities?
Would like to ask if they accept print copies or must be handwritten in original form.
*
I'm not too sure about that because I was sponsored by my wife. I took a shortcut to PR .. haha .. maybe those that got it legitimately would be able to answer this. I think both would work.

I’m also sponsored by wife… I mean, I sponsored her when we applied for PRs decades ago, but she’s now sponsoring me for the next step…
*
Huh need her for citizen meh? I thought as long as ure a PR can just move next step le .. unless u want it to be fast .. just like me .. but having a sponsor do have drawbacks, e.g., upon divorce, you would lose your PR.

If both the husband and wife are Malaysian, and they get divorced, will the wife's PR be canceled as long as they don't report it to Singapore?
*
If one of then is a sponsor, he/she has to be there for the renewal. So, unless you guys are in good terms, but I doubt.

1.00 Singapore Dollar = 1.13 Australian Dollars, so migrating to Australia is a good choice as well.
Enjoy your life in Australia with nicer weather, better transport, food, people, spaces, islands, mountain, air and beaches...
I think Singapore's population is increasing too fast, and the government needs to do more land reclamation by the sea. More and more space is needed.

Now the MRT is very crowded even non-peak hours and Woodlands customs are also packed.
Even on Sundays morning 10am, when I want to go back to JB, there are so many people queuing for buses 160/170/950 at Woodlands Custom.
*
And yet you go home every week? That's why I don't bother to go malaysia unless I have to. Things will get worse soon ..

For non peak hours, MRT is quite ok still because I usually take the mrt around 10.30 to work and return around 4 .. always get seats for yellow, purple and blue
