Hi, I open a new account at mbsb Bank and the officer use his hp to open new account for me, take photos of my ic front and back and also get otp from my hp and a selfie of me taken from his hp.
I want to know is this a normal procedure now for opening account?

And also have me handwritten down my name, address, ic numbers phone numbers on his little paper note book.

Not normal as by right bank officers are not supposed to use their personal items and if they do take notes, they are supposed to be destroyed after use.

You should have stop the registration processs

Likely they using bank app to open account. Cause some customer don't know how to open account using bank app. Lol.

So no choice need to use own phone with bank app to open account for customer.

Because banks branch can use their own computer & system access....

Probably using online method like customer.... Officer use his/her personal capacity to open (maybe achieve KPI / target)...

You should ask whether the device as in hp whether is bank issued or not

Also if it handwritten it is against PDPA 🤦‍♀️

So you have the right to file a complaint but whether action will be taken another story

The hp is own self and the connection to wifi is also use own connection.

Suggestion: Call MBSB customer service.
Ask MBSB if have such practise in a/c opening.
Check if the person is a MBSB employee.

Just close the account.

All banks in Malaysia are supposed to use secured dedicated Metro Ethernet which is faster than typical broadband 🤦‍♀️

It is highly unlikely banks Ethernet is slow unless the Ethernet is down

Unker the other day open acc also, the officer ask unker to use unker phone. The registration process is using their website. The security protocol requires the client to take a selfie.

just close the account. simple. have a peaceful sleep at night.

keep asking here won't resolve your dilemma until you take action. also you didn't stop the process when in doubt.

if staff ask why, explain his process is unorthodox and insecure/bad faith. this is not kedai runcit. they should use their authorized equipments.

if you want, talk to branch manager of this practice.

if you want to drag it further, write to bank hq (compliance dept) and bnm

Mbsb now can register account virtually aka using their app.
Im guessing that is what that officer did. He should have guided u to diy using ur own phone instead.

The selfie is done via the bank app im sure its secured.

As for ur personal info maybe just for record. He can get it from system if he really wants to do something to u.

The bank officer took a picture of his IC front and back which is why the concern happens 🤦‍♀️

Others are not so because with the IC the officer can do anything and worse case scenario take his documents to become guarantor for something else 🤦‍♀️

mbsb oso, the office just asked me if I am OK to self register with unker phone, and unker said OK, then unker just DIY, apa apa tak paham, unker just ask, and done in about 10 minutes.

On the fair side, the officer should not have used his own phone, he should have guided you instead.

Personal data theft are likely to copy data, sell it, repeatedly.

This is not kedai runcit. Bank cannot enforce who they cannot identify & apprehend. Neither can MY quality of PDPA dept. / officers.

Ofcourse i did read. As mentioned for account opening u obviously have to provide IC right? Im sure the officer is using the bank app to snap the IC instead of what u (and TS) thinking its a normal camera app.

Bank opening account is slow because their is a checklist to follow and coupled with BNM regulations and possibly need branch manager approval 🤦‍♀️

It can be as fast as 15mins for a seasoned staff and can be as slow as 2hrs

Bank app will not snap IC picture for authentication 🤦‍♀️ but instead using scan to capture the full ic and authenticate it whether is it a genuine ic or not

TS suspicion is warranted because of the officer capturing his personal data personally by handwritten with the notepad

Im sayung TS may be mistaken the officer using camera app to snap photo of IC but actually its using the bank app.
Also im not sure whether its "scan" or taking actual picture or not as im not developer.

If indeed the officer used camera app to take photo of his IC why then does the officer still needs to handwritten in notepad lah?

Since MBSB now allow placing promo Term Deposit online, I went to a branch to open a Wise Savings Account (basic account with RM20 minimum balance).

However, the lady told me I can't do promo Term Deposit with that account. Instead, I need PrimeWin Savings Account (minimum balance RM100). Can MBSB sifus please confirm? Thanks.

no such thing. I also have wise savings account only, and i can see the promo from my app.
