QUOTE(Terrasmark @ Aug 2 2008, 08:00 PM)
Hello, fellow forumers. I'm searching for a new PDA phone & the P750 is in my list. I have tested it @ shops, but those were brand new sets. So, before I make a decision, I have some questions, probably better answered 8 months after it's release, & some are based on my exp.s with the P525.

1) Can the P750 input "Enter" (carriage return) on the keypad? The common action is to press the joystick (inwards) / centre of the D-pad.
The "Enter" I mean is the "Enter" text, not "Select" cmd. E.g.: In Word Mobile, pressing "Enter" would move the (text) cursor to a new line.

2) Does the P750 have prob.s accessing the microSD during charging?
In my P525, the miniSD was inaccessible (no connection) when I turned it on (from sleep mode) while it was charging. I wonder if my set only had this prob.

3) How is the P750's battery reliability?
I believe the P750 & P525's batteries are of the same make & are interghangeable. The battery on my P525 got faulty just after half a year. It displayed 100% charge ALL the time when in fact that is not true. I dunno if the battery was secretly swapped with a lousy one when I sent it for joystick & keypad repairs, but that is just a proofless accusation... dry.gif

4) How are the P750's joystick & keypad reliabilities?
My P525 had recurring joystick & keypad prob.s. The joystick & keypad (especially keys "2" & "5") always failed to respond properly. Probably due to the built quality & placement of the joystick between the "2" & "5" keys.

5) Anyone find a silicon, crystal / metal protective case for the P750? I hate it when they produce protective cases for all devices BUT ASUS'... grumble.gif

To all P750 users, care to share your 1st 3 digits of your devices & when y'all purchased them? Wanna know the pattern of S/N from the P750 debut til' now.

I guess that're all the questions I could think of for now.

__________
Another device that was on my list is the HP iPAQ 612c. Tested that too, but the "Smart-Touch Navigation Wheel" was not my liking. I was also concerned of compatibility issues with 3rd party software (due to the wheel).

A plus on getting the P750 is the recently released ROM by ASUSTeK that, besides improving performance & ironing software prob.s, it upgrades the P750 to WM6.1! ohmy.gif YES, y'all heard me right. WINDOWS MOBILE 6.1! Although unofficial ROMs are abundant, this one is the official WM6.1 ROM from ASUSTeK! biggrin.gif

Thx.

Micro SD Card is not accessible while charging when your USB Connection is for file transfer (while phone in Card Reader mode) just change it to Active sync mode.

1. Enter only works in SMSes. In Word Mobile - it will act like u pressed OK and it will save n close (very irritating)
2. No probs at all
...

5. i've joined the bulk for invisibleshield...
...

Also thinking of modding it to 128mb ram.. somehow.. anyone have ideas?

kleptusx.

1) When WinCE was built back when there were no PDA phones, PDAs had D-pads/joysticks & no alphanumeric keypads. Users relied on the on-screen keyboard for "Enter" & pressing the D-pads/joysticks closes applications. This has been the default settings of WinCE & later, WM OSes.

Due to this, probably, Microsoft believes that the onus is on device makers to program the hardware keys to perform manufacture-specific functions. I think HP has exactly done that with the iPAQ 612c which has the "Enter" symbol on 1 of its hardware buttons. Didn't test that button when I had the chance to.

Last time, I used AE Button Plus to overcome the prob., but that had it's own share of prob.s with the P525. Any fellow forumers out there who had found other ways, pease do tell.

About your thought on modding the P750 to 128MB RAM, try reading this - PDA RAM Upgrading. If U already read it, my summarization would be

1) U need to look for the correct (memory) chip.
2) U need to have excellent soldering skills / find a person who does. Remember, the P750's mainboard was manufactured by machine/robot.
3) U need the right software (ROM) to support the new chip.

All these while trying to avoid voiding the warranty and/or turning your P750 into a very nice-looking paperweight. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it's impossible / U shouldn't do it, but if U ask me, I wouldn't go for it. It's just too toublesome, time & money consuming to do.

Besides, why settle for 128MB? He he...brows.gif If U do succeed, please do tell. I wanna know too.

2) ... I mean, when charging with the AC adaptor, not during synching. Sounds strange, but this really happened to my P525.

5) BTW, I saw some MOMAX P750 silicon casings @ PDA Expert, Mid Valley, but without a (plastic) screen protective cover. Didn't asked for the price though.

hi bro n sis,
QUOTE
Guys, when i wan to type sms with the key pad.. how to off the T9 dictionary? I ve already untick everything everything in T9 option but stil the T9 feature remain active. 10q

the main reason why i choose p750 is because of its keypad. i like one handed operation for sms and try to avoid stylus (nokia freak). but..

T9 predictive input is good if you're composing sms in supported language, but to sms in bahasa melayu? argh..susah.

i just wondering whether the keypad can be operated as normal nokia keypad without predictive input function. what i mean is, let say i want to spell "LOWYAT" then i just key in 555(L)-666(O)-9(W)-9(Y)-2(A)-8(T)

anyone have any tricks?
