im new here.izit maxis wireless bb available in ipoh?? speed fast? LOL that location finder in maxis website is nt exact.swt..

Averagely, you can only achieve GPRS (<20kbps) and EDGE (<120kbps). I go back there often and there are some location which claims that they can get UTMS but somehow I can connect to UTMS but no data transfer.... not sure if they are in the midst of upgrade or what.... I think you should wait or use Celcom as 3G is definitely available in Ipoh....

QUOTE(panda80 @ Dec 31 2007, 09:00 PM)
hi all,

I'm using maxisbb for more than 3 months, it is stable for me, but the only issue I'm not satisfy is sometimes it will hang.

For example, suddenly it like no data flow in, but I check http://192.168.0.1, it shows it is connected. Then I need to off the ZTE modem and wait for half minutes, then on it back, wait another 2 to 3 mins, then only i can use again. AFter rebooted the modem, it seems the speed is back to normal. And it is working fine. I found out that Maxisbb website did post out the bulletin and advised users to reboot the modem while this issue happen.

Is there any brothers have a better solution for this issue? I tried to call to Helpdesk and ask them to change the ZTE modem, but they said need to send technician to my place and check the modem lah and this lah that lah, feel a bit dissappointed about this.

But overall I feel it is still better than Streamyx  rclxms.gif ...hahahaha..

I attached the speed test on this reply. Please have a look.
*
Get your whole modem and go to MAxis KLCC and request for a change... tell them your issue and add a bit more saying that the modem is a bit coo-koo and they will change a new one for you.... make sure you make a scene if they dun. Happens all the time.....

*
Good on you.... I need to recheck if there is extra charges for it and let you know, but I did get a verbal confirmation in regards to this....

is it possible to downgrade for maxissbb?
currently i subscribed to power package but apparently the best speed i could get is 3G speed only eventhough the status indicates that the modem is connected to HSDPA network...
during the first 2 months  i managed to get HSDPA speed like 2-3 times....but not anymore...i did some tests on the speed various times and never exceeded 3G speed.
i plan to downgrade to rm68/basic package now..waste of money paying rm103 per month but only managed to get 3G speed.
supposedly my area has a stable HSDPA network since the modem always connected to HSDPA network...
*
If your area is covered in the "HSDPA" area, then you should hav a case to argue. Otherwise, I dun think they will downgrade for you....

Yes , how did you downgrade your package cause I am thinking of downgrading to RM 68 cause thats enough for their faces !. Seriously , now it sucks big time....But on the other hand the I2G package looks good , consistent speed even though they are connected to the same tower
*

Maybe you need to take a drive to KLCC to try your luck, who knows, you might get lucky. I2G is strongly recommended as I'm still enjoying great speed. Very stable connection. But a piece of advice, try to get a compatible modem with attached antenna unlike mine sad.gif .

i wondering maxis will allowed us directly transfer maxis BB to I2GO or not~~
if can, this would be great to us.

later i will try to call 123 ask them.

Added on January 3, 2008, 1:04 pm

I2GO can reach 3.6mbps? how come the maxis website stated on 768kbps?
*
Switch from MaxisBB to I2G? doubt it as I2G is not contract and you can cancel it in the 2nd month.... But hey, worth a tinker, maybe Maxis decided not to be BUAYA anymore and start to behave in 2008 icon_idea.gif ....... hmm.gif ..... doubt it.... unsure.gif

Well I've not touch more than 3mbps yet but the speed ranges from 1.2mbps to 2.5mbps on the average.... just make sure other 3G device are put away from your pc... somehow the devices are grabbing the signal... my signal drops to 1 bar if my 3G phone is next to it.... if i receive a 3G call, it drops to 1 bar only!!!....

i thk country is not the issue, the most important is the attenna is suitable to ur data card or not. so i thk it is no problem with sierra 875.

I was considering this before, maybe getting 5 to 10... any interest? Got a fren coming back from HK this month end so wish me luck...

Hey there,

Your signal seems to be okay. You might face inconsistency in ydownloading and things like that. To change to WCDMA only. You'll have to do this,

Go to your modem configuration and click Network Connect. Select Disconnect Internet and press Apply. Then next up go to Network Select and choose WCDMA and press apply.
The next thing you should configure is APN Settings. I've managed to find out that the default Maxis DNS Server sucks most of the time. Yes , thats why you are unable to your .NET thingy. In order to fix this you gotta change few settings
Firstly change the APN Dial Number from *99# to *99***1# , this should fix the disconnection issue at least !.

Next change from Auto DNS to Manual DNS and use this

Primary DNS : 202.75.129.101
Standby DNS : 202.75.129.102

Give it a shot and let me know ~!

Please do me a favour if you change this settings , go to Report and Check on Do not Report. I dont want Maxis folks to know what am I up to actually !
*
hmmm..... hmm.gif ..... interesting theory, I think i know where you are getting at... I proposed that you quicky PM :butthead: on this post and delete your post to avoid detection, once they know they might just blocked it.

Btw, the official upload speed for MaxisBB is capped at 50kbps, sometimes they uncapped it, not sure why...

50kbps is a bit slow isn't it ... especially for BTers....
i'll try to get some tracert results of a simillar address from my office and compare it with the maxis tracert...

i have been monitoring for the past few hours... it seems everything is fine.. i don't know if it is the settings that gave the changes or the Connection Keeper application that made the change... anyways... my downloads in my download manager just continues running for the past few hours...

i hope maxis considers to get rid of the initial redirection to the www.maixs.com.my/maxisbb...

it seriously is frustrating at times when it just redirects only once every re-connection... and if no connection is made, no data is passed through....i wonder what is the logic behind this???
*
Well it is an ingenious way of saving BW, as we all know, there are limited slots for HSDPA connection per area/basestation, so switching the non-active/idle connections to UTMS, they can reserve more slots to active users... that is why P2P connection is discourage. That is how the emergence of VPN & WebUI became popular in M'sia icon_rolleyes.gif ....

Btw, I dun understand why your connection will disconnect during ftp/http d/l? I use WebUI torrenting and perform constant ftp d/l and it never dc.... are you suffering from intermittent signal?

Hello all, I am a Maxis postpaid user and I received a SMS from them today to give me a birthday gift that I'll get a free one month unlimited data package for wireless Internet access worths RM 99. I'll need to redeem it before January 10 if I am interested...
I don't think my area, Port Dickson is covered for its wireless service. sad.gif

How is the connection for the wireless? If not it is going to be wasteful to waste such gift if the connection is good... cry.gif
*
The package of unlimited RM99 also known as Internet2Go package is alrite in terms of speed (>1.2mbps). Well you can still do EDGE/GPRS on your mobile like nobody busy and not charge for it tongue.gif

if you don't mind about the 18 months contract... you get 1 months of free usage and then you get tied for the rest of the 17months... and the worst will come if you regret getting it after that...

remember... there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world...

speed wise is hard to say... as there is some negative and some positive feedbacks...

it is a bad thing that they actually do not let users get a 7 or 14 day trial with the initlal payments and a full refund if the user is not satisfied...

they used to do that with their old wireless broadband package and so does time webbit and also jaring's own wireless service if i am not wrong..

maybe too many people went back for a refund i guess...
*
i think u you misunderstood fruitie's msg/question, if it is a free one month unlimited usage on his existing sim, then Maxis is just giving him 1 month full access on I2G package (no contract), not the usual suspect MaxisBB.

I'm on the I2G package (no contract just like Celcom's) and I think the reason why I'm getting awesome speed is b'coz there is not much users on it. I think that is where Maxis comes in and starting to do promo on is.... I2G is attached to their GSM service and MaxisBB is a stand-alone entity.

Well, I don't know which one that I'll be getting...
This is the SMS I got:
Happy Birthday! Special gift to you from Maxis. FREE 1 month unlimited data package for wireless internet access worths RM 99! Just call 123 by 10Jan08 to redeem.

What does it mean? hmm.gif

Ops... sorry for being ignorance... did not realize it..... blush.gif

same with u
i got this sms also

U see, all Maxis postpaid can ask for data plan in their account to enable GPRS/MMS/3G on their mobile which allows you to surf internet access and data transfer application... and it cost something like RM5/month for 5MB usage and such. The RM99/mth is the unlimited package which allows HSDPA with a max speed of 3.6Mbps. So if you've got a datacard like a Sierra Wireless Aircard 875/U, you can actually slot it in and use the highspeed internet for that particular month. They just wanted to give you a trial hoping that you will become a long term users. That's all. Hmmm..... but it is unlikely that someone would go get an Aircard/Expresscard to try for 1 month.... ???!!!..... unless you've HSDPA enable mobile phone to act as a modem.

Btw..... HAPPY BIRTHDAY to BOTH of U rclxms.gif icon_rolleyes.gif thumbup.gif

Hey people! Wondering if anyone here encountering the same problem as i am....appreciate any help at all smile.gif

i'm having problem with my USB modem (Huawei E220), where each time the line drops to 'EDGE'...and when it tries to get back to 'UMTS' (3G), my connection will be disconnected. And i will have to connect (manually) again sad.gif ... This happens frequently, and it's rather frustrating.

Anyone...out there...pleasee...help me... this maxis broadband is driving me nuts....arrggghhhhh....

Helpppppppp..... Thanks everyone smile.gif
*
location?
Signal strength?
Sounds like u got discon due to no reception. Try to set 3G only....meaning enabling HSDPA/UTMS only... no EDGE/GPRS....note u need to discon, set it and then connect. Hope this helps.... try reading previous post.... i did post up a software to enable you to see the actual signal strength in dB instead of the lame number of bars....

i had juz change to I2GO data unlimited RM99 package.
currently using my 838pro as modem first, still consider to buy sierra 875u or huawei e220.
so far my comment is I2GO at my place is not really stable, the ping result is almost same with maxis broadband.download speed is not stable, sometime can get fast, sometime slow. i thk maybe because of using phone as modem, but average still better than maxis broadband.
i apply a new sup line for this I2GO, coz maxis told me if i wan to add another based on my principle line, they will charge me RM15/month.

Added on January 10, 2008, 10:50 pmJWCheah: hv u order the attenna? maybe i will need to order also.

Bro, try to consider getting the sierra875u.... better in terms of pricing and performance.
About the antenna, well i'm still waiting... even friends in London inform me that it is currently out-of-stock.... so need to wait.... sad.gif

Im thinking of gaming and chatting. and sometimes download too. will it be ok?
*
My ratings:
Gaming = sad.gif (latency around 200ms to HK/China)
MSN = thumbup.gif (no prob with mine, no discon or whatsoever)
Download P2P = shakehead.gif bad... only un-throttle from 1am to 6am.... still bad unless you use WebUI or VPN.

But the real question is do you need the wireless ISP? If not, go back to streamyx, else i reckon Maxis is now leading the wireless pack.... but for how long... i'm waiting to see if Digi can do something about the current situation...
