yea~i thk this is not pc fair, should be call maxis fair....... tongue.gif
celcom juz got 2 booth~pity blink.gif

shocking.gif celcom were there??!!! .... must have missed them as the whole area was crowded with Greenies (Maxis promoter, the irritating chipmunks, who refuse to give me a free green bag bcoz i refuse to fill their 20 minutes survey form).... Existing users like myself are just hoping that MAxis can still provide genuine services after the sudden increase of users... really do not want to fight for BW as we definitely didnot pay to do so......
QUOTE(cantdecide @ Dec 10 2007, 08:29 AM)
I'm just curious.
Does the ZTE modem or the USB doggle come with any firewall or security features?  It can be safely assume that it does some preliminary NAT as our PC IP is 192.x.x.x.  So how about firewall or other features?
*
usb not using 192.x.x.x... just auto direct connect with IP of 121.120.x.x and its firewalled.

Nobody wants a firewalled Internet connection. Firstly , you can do anything with it , you can't even establish a direct connection
Its called Maxis Fair..I hate those green maxis guys , seriously.
*
Agreed.
This is called Force-Firewalled where you can't control, cannot give exceptions to certain connections/port......

p.s: ...pity those green chipmunks getting criticized by all .....poorly paid, heavily condemn, worst job ever......

at pc fair, for the 3.6 Mbps package with free usb modem ...is it priced at RM99 or RM138? ..because i was told by the promoter that RM99 package + 18 months contract will get me the free usb modem (while 600Kbps will get the zte modem)...that's why i was beginning to think that it is more worth it than my celcom RM68 package
*
USB Package RM118/mth for 18 months (no clause stating that the usb modem is free, might need to return after the contract).... i think the RM100 registration fees is still applicable. You save RM20/month.

Geez.... we are all so tense up by all these available ISPs and somehow got carried away. I think the real problem for the ISPs is that the consumers today are no longer like what it used to be back in the days of dial-up 55k phone line. People will compare, people will discussed the capacity, speed, stability and reliablity. Remember that back in those olden days, Internet discussion mainly involved "Got disconnect-ah?" or "Why cannot login-wan?". Well I guess when we compare the performance in out region, we are pretty much in the middle table and still falling. But somehow, I think every ISP has its niche and weakness. I, for one, is enjoying my 1.2mbps usb package despite that there are huge rooms of improvement available simply because I've not heard or found another ISP which can do better in terms of pricing and performance.

Wooooh, that statement above was too serious... now got a joke to share...........

People, we are dealing with PROFESSIONAL CONSULTANTS here, whom most likely are Master Degree (in Network) holders. hehehe brows.gif, so please put in intelligent question in order to get an intelligent answer, therefore "Why Maxis so slow-wan???!!!" is not consider as an Intelligent question due to the fact that you are demanding to know with emotions (the use of ??? or !!! is not allowed).... **sigh*....

From what I see from their strategy marketing, Maxis did not lie to us, you can see that all they are promoting is that their system is FASTER THAN THE DIALUP CONNECTION. doh.gif lol.... you don't need a Master Degree to tell you that the sun rises from the East, you need him to point where East is during the night.....

I've yet to see any huge speed change on my end at the moment. But I won't be surprise if it starts to slowdown. Still running a consistent 800kbps to 1.2Mbps....

Just called 180082200, after waited for 5 minutes... Maxis "Professional Consultant" blink.gif informed that the line will be down for 2-3 hours. Network Dept are working on it. He also asked i I would like to put in an official report on this and I replied "Hell Yes"......Oh well, if what they inform and promise is true... then I guess we should be SABAR.... any server will have its downtime... how long (in terms of %) will be the question.

p.s: I was typing a VERY VERY LONG EMAIL and once I press SEND, it showed CONNECTION TIMED OUT.... I lost the entire mail.... now feel like kicking something bruce.gif ......... dry.gif

For those who are asking "HOW MUCH DO ONE NEEDS TO PAY ONCE EXCEED 3GB-ah?" - stop asking... read previous thread.... No One had ever been charged b4 on this.... if they do, I will definitely be the FIRST to KNOW.... dun ask me how much I've d/l.... more than 1 could imagine.... yawn.gif

what Maxis lacks rite now is notices in their main BB portal to inform customers of maintenance or downed network. At least we don't waste our time to troubleshoot on our end. Thank god we have lowyat.net to confirm the problem with other users.
*
I think the portal is useless considering if the line is down you cannot access the net so no-one can read it anyway, of course in this event, it is helpful as the local link is still on but is only to serve this scenario.... blush.gif .... business wise, not practical. Look at how the CS react, some still have no idea the link is down..... giving some bullsh*t answer just to shut you up.... sad but true.....

well, at least do what Jaring/TM would do. Inform customer before doing maintenance and stuffs. Of course this maybe is an unplanned maintenance or smtg but still plz inform the customers after it is solved. That's common courtesy/standards between a provider and customer.
They can redirect the notices website on the first few hops or something. I'm sure that is still possible.
*
What they normally do in overseas (UK, Vodafone) is that during this scenario, once you called the CS, the recording will explain to you the current situation, the solution (status) and the duration if possible for this unscheduled maintenance/downtime. instead of letting their customer waiting on the phone (and even more frustrating, listening to the Maxis BB ad letting us how reliable they are vmad.gif ) like idiots b4 telling us a kindergarten lame excuse. Welcome to Bolehland.

Yes, that Maxis guy told me...
Actually i planing to subcribe.. Any problem playing perferct world or dota?

1: 10 star u guys gip how many star
*
Please beware... even though I'm quite happy with my line, I tot u should know that Maxis has sub-out the sales and marketing of WBB to agents/resellers/marketers for it to save cost as they run on a different budget with the Mobile section. Therefore, these scums who wears Maxis t-shirt are not direct employee of Maxis and they can promise you the world but Maxis will deny all rightfully... I found out about this when I'm at their HQ KLCC chatting with the senior manager. Trust me.... any info, pls verified with the KLCC group.... assumption might lead to disappointment. Just beware and good luck....

p.s: normal package only includes 7-days trial for cancellation. The registration RM100 will be forfeited. So test 24/7 cukup2 b4 committing.

I'm not sure what's all the grumbling is about as the speed today is acceptable (800kbps) and honestly, in regards of the downtime, it was my first in the last 3 months so to compare to others(Streamyx/celcom), i think we are ok. But of course, everyone is at diff location facing diff kind of scenario.

OMG. I experiencing slow connection at this time. Anyone else having this problem?
*
Nope, Desa Park next to B.Manjalara/Kepong is running okay.... i'm not that greedy, anything above 700kbps is fine with me especially the latency has improved tremendously. I mean it used to be average about +400ms but for the past 3 weeks is below 200ms... of course some local server might give you <100ms but for C-Strike is good enough.

Just accpect the fact...

Seriously i thinking which BB is nicer ... Maxis or Celcom sad.gif
*
There are few factors to consider and I dun think either one is significantly winning the votes as both are still on their development stage and there's still a lot needed to be done. Location is a huge factor and if you are in a lucky zone, you will get hyper-speed but both ISP's zone is different so you really need to test it out as much as possible during your trial period if there's a contract to be consider.

But I must say, Celcom 3G covers almost everywhere I go as compare to Maxis. But I personally think that in terms of great consistent speed, Maxis is doing good with 800kbps to 1500kbps if you are located less than 1km from their base station(line of sight is important). Beyond that, dun expect much.

it's celcom's gain that u are too incompetent to source for ur own 3g device elsewhere. and celcom doesnt charge a rm100 registration fee or have any contract..u just pay advance of 1 month's bill..fair enough to prevent jokers from signing up.
the maxis package with usb modem is priced higher that actually your monthly and registration fee are the one that subsidizing the device
*
Assuming 18mths usage.
Celcom will cost: Modem(E220) = RM 900
Mthly Fees = RM 98 x 19 = RM1,764
Total = RM2,664.00

Maxis will cost : Mthly+Modem+Registration = RM138x18 + RM100 = RM2,584.00

So MAXIS saved you RM80.00... that is for those prepaid user to call their CS during downtime tongue.gif
In short, it will be a great savings for those you signed up during PC fair. And then of course Celcom allows you to bail out at any time during the 18mths period. So it is not a great difference but the performance is what users are seeking for.... to me... the battle is still on and close... let just see how 2008 will do....

Do you have personal experience with both products to make this statement?  What are the advantages of the 875U over the E220 that makes it a better modem?

Added on December 18, 2007, 9:46 am

A Huawei E220 can be purchased nowadays for less than RM 650 if you are patient and good in negotiation skills.  Therefore the advantage swings Celcom's way for an 18 month calculation.

Isn't the minimum contract period for Maxis broadband offering 24 months instead of 18?
*
I'm on 18mths not sure the latest offer duration... anyhow, i think everybody's right rclxms.gif , it depends on how you see the value would be. Of course, i've also heard that Internet2Go from Maxis is not the same as the contracted USB package.... not sure as i've not fully tested it.

Btw, I've read some HSDPA info and realized that the base tower setting has significant influence towards our performance; such as heights, relay settings and package transit hardware (new or old) plays an important role. It is also stated that "line of sight" setting is more important than height, meaning that even if you are on 30th floor but if u are able to align you modem in the line of sight with the base tower, you are not far off from optimum performance as compared to ground floor but blocked off by a 3 storey building... this statement is based on the characteristics of HSDPA signal which is still under development. you can google it.

I'm not saying who's right or wrong, I apologise if I seemed like picking on your post  blush.gif  Anyway, I saw somewhere that the contract period was 24 months now, that's why I asked.  If it was indeed 24 months, Maxis "advantage" disappears.  And I2G is a standalone package without any hardware or contract period, I should know, I got one, and I'm not a Maxis voice customer.
One thing I can say, having played with so many HSDPA devices, is that an external antenna does make a difference between a stable and reliable signal compared to the puny built in antenna  wink.gif  It's a reallly worthwhile investment; the only reason why more people have not got one is because of the cost, and availability in Malaysia.
I own 5 HSDPA devices at the moment, with an E220 on the way soon, so I shall be able to see the major differences between all of them soon.
*
wink.gif noted... forums are for opinions anywhere...

btw, do you mind sharing your performance details:

Location : ?
Standard IP header : 121.120.X.X ?
Average speedtest results : ?
Latency : ?
Peak speed (more than 5 mins) : ?
Ftp/http d/l speed: ?
Torrent d/l speed: ?

sorry if I've asked too much, just wanna understand if it is using the same family as E220 consumers.
