From RM8 to RM10 as what i've been told by their operator after finding out why my Indah water bill has increased..

Is this something reasonable for a sewage service to increase their price for that much of a sudden? RM2 may not seem that much, but my total bill gone from RM45 to RM60 - A ridiculous 33% increment for a service that nobody can opt out of.

What kind of work do they do specifically that cause so much i must ask...

When i asked what's the reason for increment, they just said because they haven't increased it in years... dry.gif
Is there any price regulation for this kind of thing?

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 27 — The tariff for connected sewerage services and emptying septic tanks for the domestic category in peninsular Malaysia and Labuan will be streamlined and subjected to additional charges, starting from Jan 1 next year and Oct 1, 2022, respectively.

The Ministry of Environment and Water (Kasa), in a statement today, said the matter was decided at a Cabinet meeting last April 20.

"This tariff adjustment will involve an increase of between RM5 to RM8 per month for the service of emptying of septic tanks with effect from Oct 1, 2022. For connected services, there will be a small increase of RM2 per month with effect from Jan 1, 2023," it said.

According to the ministry, targeted assistance will be provided to ease the people’s burden by giving rebates to those registered with the E-Kasih programme.

It said the average cost per month for providing connected sewerage services is RM17 compared to the current tariff rate which is between RM2 and RM8, while the actual cost of the septic tank emptying service is RM22 per month compared to the current tariff rate of between RM2 and RM6 per month.

“This (new) tariff rate is also lower compared to other utility service tariffs, such as electricity supply, telecommunications and Internet broadband,” it said.

Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) is the national sewerage company that provides connected sewerage services and emptying individual septic tanks, as well as ensures public sewage treatment plants (LRK) and national sewerage assets operate well and are well maintained to reduce the risk of pollution to the environment.

According to Kasa, since the sewerage service was taken over by IWK in 1994, that is 28 years ago, the sewerage tariff has never been reviewed and has affected IWK’s cash flow where the income cannot cover its operating costs which increases every year.

“This has affected the sustainability of the country’s sewerage sector as a whole. The adjustment of sewerage service tariff rates is important to ensure a sustainable sewerage service industry.

“This move will enable IWK to provide an effective and efficient service. The increasingly stable financial position allows IWK to finance maintenance and repair works, in addition to daily operating costs,” it said.

The ministry expressed its confidence that with the experience and expertise possessed by IWK, it would be able to ensure a more systematic management of the operation and maintenance of sewerage assets and the compliance of treated effluent according to the set standards.

“This will simultaneously reduce sewage pollution on water sources and supports environmental sustainability,” it said. — Bernama

tldr: iwk treats all your sewage and purify the waste before sent back to river again for sustainable water resource. well u can complain but many din even pay when they are cheap while pouring stuff like diaper, maggi mee down, shoe down ur sewage. that's why they got suggestion to merge iwk with water bill

Every time you flush your toilet, wash your hands, take a bath, wash your clothes etc etc all the dirty water are treated so that it is safe for the environment. I don't think it's too much for RM10/month.

I believed you mean RM48 (RM8x6 months).

RM2 seems fair to me because already many years didn't increase. I still think it's pretty cheap taking into account they clean up on your shit for only few cents everyday.

TS, it is for the chemical treatment to convert the polluted water that you discharge from your unit, treated it before the water is being release into the river / sea.

If you think it is expensive, go search oversea sewerage water treatment charges from the developed nations. You see the bill, you will keep silent after this. The sewerage fees is the 2nd most expensive after the utilities like electricity / gas. at UK, it was at £34 in 2021/22.

So i belip price hike should be justified.

Labor cost also need to revise according to the rising cost of living. You got a family to feed, pretty sure their workforce also got their family to feed. Tak kan you want to stick with making the same amount of salary for 20-30 years?
