Just a question, how come most hoglets for sale are usually males?

I'm thinking if I'm going to get one, I would prefer a female, but I don't see a lot of people having female hoglets...

Salt & pepper looks beautiful... smile.gif

You feed veggie and fish food, lagi become bigger than feed oatmeal. And much more nutrition also coz it would make the mealworms have more protein and also vitamins from the veggie.
*
Ok i will try for that. But what you mean the fish food? Those fish pallet ? or

Hahaha, yeah, that's the reason I wanna get a female one too. But if someone volunteers to help me breed i won't mind getting a male... brows.gif

Was just thinking, hedgehog's lifespan doesn't even exceed 10 years, if I were to have one as a pet, I wouldn't want to see it die on me after several years. At least their next generation (and next and next and next....) will still be keeping me company... tongue.gif

Erm.... never breed if you do not have the right intentions..... also.... hedgehogs are quite depressing to breed. A female may eat up her young, like what mine did and foster caring is never easy. Keeping it's generation.... not a very good goal for breeding. Stressed hedgehogs would not breed properly, and it cannot breed after it is 2.5 years old but if you did not start breeding before it is 1 year old but after 6 months old, the pregnancy could be fatal and can kill a female hedgehog.... best is only 1 litter every 6 months and it involves careful planning and lots of monitoring.

For me it was never easy. And this is also why the price is high.

For my hoglet, I had to feed her every 3 hours, keep under a warm heat lamp, stimulate it to defecate... also I must make sure she doesn't get bloat and diarrhea..... so breeding should not be taken lightly lah.

Ouch, hahaha, guess I was thinking too far ahead...

crazymouse_yyh, how old are your hedgehogs? It seems like you have plenty of pets at home, I', guessing they should be quite few years old already right?

It's been very informative participating in this forum, didn't expect replies to be flooding in so fast... rclxms.gif

I got many pets.... hobby lah.

My hedgehogs, my oldest is Sparky, my snowflake S&P that is 2 years old. Then I have his daughter, Donut that is gonna be 1 year old. Then a male called Crinkles, he is only about 6 months old. Their lifespan is short..... I keep coz of colour too. Hhaha... Crinkles is a Cinnicot, Donut is a normal S&P and Sparky a snowflake S&P.

Breeding hedgehogs needs alot of reading up and research. I had to plan when to breed, count the gestation days, get ready proper stuff just in case my female rejected her hoglets.... well, luckily I was ready. smile.gif

Is the toyogo box safe enough to be the cage for hedgehogs? Someone mentioned that their hedgies escaped from their cage by climbing out, which I find a bit weird since the boxes are quite deep...

You of course need to DIY your own lid. Hedgehogs climb out by climbing onto their hideboxes or wheels.... so it acts like a ladder. If you do not have a hidebox or anything solid for it to climb on, then as long the toyogo box is more than 12 inches in height, then it is safe without a lid.

Could be allergies to the bedding or an infection. Change the bedding to only newspaper or cloth. If bleeding is still occurring after a day, bring to a vet fast.

Not necessary, you can choose to feed boiled egg or chicken meat as a alternative supplement besides mealworms, but not every hedgie will take it, and it's kinda messy too if you ask me =p
