If you dont have a hidebox thats why hes always digging to hide ..... doh.gif
Also, page one of this thread has a hidebox DIY guide sweat.gif

You can also buy one of these from pets wonderland

Once he has somewhere to hide and sleep he will be much happier, and also he will be less likely to hide under a fabric cage liner

Question, what do you guys mean by a hedgehog safe towel, and where can i buy one? would be nice for bathtime.

As far as i know all conventional towels are not hedgehog safe
the reason being that the fuzz on fabric that towels are made of is actually not fuzz but tiny tiny loops of thread
Their nails or toes can get caught on these loops and ripped off, very likely to happen as you have probably seen for yourself they like to scratch and burrow in fabric.
In fact when you think about it, a towel is probably one of the most unsafe fabrics to put in their cages.

Cis, no longer available....they sound pretty nice too.

Im actually using those large blankets from IKEA that don't fray when they are cut for liners, im a little confused if the fabric is actually called fleece or flannel.
They work well as cage liners but are somewhat noneffective for drying off a wet hedgehog sweat.gif

Angel got a nail caught on her bath towel last week, no injury but im considering to switch to something else as a bath towel

T shirt idea is a good one tho both for a liner and also possibly good for drying of a wet piglet brows.gif

Those blankets, I don't think high quality fleece.... coz the material feels different from the fleece we use for sugar gliders. The one we use for gliders absorbs water well in a way. But I love those tea towels more. I also wanna look for more since I got a few hedgehogs now. These days I alternate with those towels and cut up tshirts.

Yep your right they feel different from normal fleece, slightly rubberized in fact ( im thinking its highly synthetic )
My gramma said she thinks its flannel, and that confused me even further sweat.gif

Tea towels and baby diapers are both made of muslin, it comes in many grades ( different weave density ) you can buy it from many fabric shops, pretty cheap !

I used to buy it in bulk when i was in college laugh.gif ( fashion design )

Ohhh.... but the tea towel I'm using is not muslin.... or maybe is the extremely thick type hahaah. But I guess you can use that. How much does it cost?

The blanket from Ikea.... I threw away already coz it attracts fur like crazy! Well, coz I sleep with my dog lah LOL.
*
Erm cannot remember how much exactly, Its been a 'few' years since i graduated laugh.gif
The minimum to buy is half a meter, some places will only sell minimum 1 meter
However im sure 1 meter is less than RM 10 ( possibly even less than RM 5 )
Good places to go hunt for it if you want a thicker grade are Masjid India, Petaling Street, and Ho ching Yuen (spelling ?_?)

Sometimes a strand of my hair will somehow get fused into the ikea blanket, very difficult to remove
I totally cant imagine what will happen of a dog a or cat took a good roll in it LOL

Can cuddle, but only when the hedgehog is in the mood laugh.gif

Added on April 8, 2008, 5:29 pmOh i missed the pics of Tare just now! How very sweet she is <3
I think she looks like shes probably an Algerian Chocolate ( light mask and brown nose )

Tare translates as to lie/sit/slouch down in a very lazy way, pretty good name for a hedgie laugh.gif

Ahh ok so..
The light blue one is synthetic polyester fleece
Then the slightly thicker softer ones that come in alot of colours with cut out designs at the borders are fleece?

Demon is using the light blue ones, and Angel is using the white slightly more expensive one ( i wanted light pink but they didnt have it )

I initially thought they were the same thing.
But when i bought the white one and cut it up i noticed the white one was thicker and water tended to absorb in a little faster
whereas with the light blue one the water will just 'sit' on the surface of the fabric

I thought it was because the blue ones had already been washed multiple times laugh.gif

Edit: Whats the kibble size and shape like? im guessing similar to as adult cat kibble size?

LOL @ mamata

Hedgehogs are just like people, come in all kinds of sizes
They can vary from slightly under 300g to over 700g

Just because a hedgehog is heavy and big does not mean its fat

If they can ball up fully and do not have yellowish fat folds at the area where the legs join to the body then they are ok

For example
a hedgie that weighs 400g but has fat folds and has trouble balling up is considered overweight

but a hedgie that weighs 500g, has no fat deposits and can ball up is just fine and does not need to lose weight (just big size)

Also female hedgehogs tend to be larger than males for some reason

Then you can check for the folds of fat deposit at the 'armpits'
you know how their skin is normally pinkish? if there are folds and they are yellowish then she is overweight
If not then dont worry smile.gif

Nah you dont need to get a partner, both female and male hedgehogs are solitary and territorial animals. They will be stressed by another hedgehog and if they fight the injuries can be serious ( durian vs durian! )

Of course you can get another hedgie if you want, but you need to keep them seperately smile.gif

Yup can stay single for their whole lives.
A hedgie is happiest all by itself laugh.gif
They do not get lonely and really dont like the company of other hedgies.

Even in the wild the only time they will meet is to mate and then they will immediately seperate.
This does not mean they are trying to seek the pleasure of a one night stand la laugh.gif
Mating is not 'fun' for them. Its just something they are hard wired to do.
Its just natures way to make sure there will be a new generation of hedgies

Since we keep them as pampered pets we can relive them of this duty, they can live their lives as one long holiday nod.gif

I think Muchan's Ken has bitten her housmate lol

Demon wont bite strangers but he will wait till the stranger pass him back to me then he will bite me straight away ><
he knows how to blame me for letting strangers touch him lol
