Eh, but after you said that i went and checked, he/she has the male tag
Is white palace male or female or two seperate people laugh.gif

Anyway, Im going to sleep. I dont think anything hot is going to start. Its good to debate about things. Its always good to question information given to you even if it makes other people grumpy.

Plus it can be quite fun, I am sure he/she feels the same way.

HAHAHA.... Cim, how come u always think white palace is a she? the tag already written with caps as MALE!! xD

ehhh.....so how??? can recommend me which brand to mix with orijen?? *stress* lol

wanna ask sumthin to... if hedgie became more older do they eat less than when they still young? I mean, usually Ken can finish his food on one day without leaving any kibble.. but these day I found out that he ate a bit only... the amount of food that he can finish on one day... now become 3 days.. -.-" already reduce the food to just half a normal feed... but still can't finish.... the food still there after few days... which I have to throw after one day cuz  scare it's not good to kept too many days...

anyone know wad happen with Ken? cuz he really lazy.... what he did is just sleep, sleep, sleep n sleep... -.-"
*
Heehee sorry!!, i dont know why i thought whitepalace was female.
I rarely observe peoples gender tag. Maybe because im not really concerned about the gender of the person im talking with, if people mistake me for male also i rarely correct them unless the topic concerns gender.
Dunno why, maybe im just lazy sweat.gif

Are you currently still feeding him babycat? Look back at previous pages and choose one of those recommended brands that you think you would like to commit to long term, then slowly add in the orijen and that other brand to the babycat. Do not suddenly stop giving the babycat. (you know how to slowly switch and and add in food right? i think there will be instructions also on most cat food bags)
Then once the orijen finishes, just continue to feed the babycat and whichever other brand you chose.
Later on when hes older you can think about replacing babycat with some other adult food, but for now its still good for him.

They will eat a little bit less when they get older but it sounds like the amount he is eating reduce by alot and quite suddenly. Plus he is less active than usual?
Any change in the amount and texture of his poo?
Sorry i dont know how to guess what is wrong with him, Did any thing happen recently like temperature change, food change or something that could have stressed him?

just bought a hedghie 3 days ago

try hand feeding her
scared she will bite my finger
how long till the hedgie can get selesa with u?
always menyorok in the hideout
*
Hi mamata

You might want to stop feeding her by hand, its a very nice feeling,
but if you keep doing this its possible she will associate your hand with food and this might encourage her to bite your hands/fingers.
Just put the food on the ground in front of her, dont worry she will still know its from you smile.gif

How long she will take to get used to you depends on the hedgehog, some are more shy some are more curious. It can take a few weeks or even a few months.
Just be patient and gentle with her. Did you try putting in a t shirt that you wore in her cage? this is a good way for her to get used to your smell.

Menyorok is normal for hedgehogs lol, no matter how used to you they get they will always like the feeling of being in a hideout. They like dark places and need that hideout to have a happy and comfortable home.

Whitepalace i have many more things regarding commercial pet food i would love to discuss! If no one sponsor then maybe i will start a new thread or pm lah, cos its not really directly related to hedgehogs. wink.gif

Sneezing? do you mean a hfff! hfff! sound? thats kind of their way of 'growling' shes probably just not used to you yet, but dont worry its quite normal for them to do it, mine still will sometimes do it when i wake him up or something terperanjat him.

wait till you hear the hfhfhfhfhfhfhfh rattlesnake sound lol!

A little bit of scratching is normal.

But if you notice she scratch very often then she might have dry skin or mite problem

Besides a wheel and toilet roll, many hedgehogs like those small plastic cat ball toys with a bell inside. Some of them dont like the bell sound but many enjoy to push it around with their noses.

I used to leave a toilet roll inside his house and he would totally ignore it. Then one day i took the wheel out for a couple nights to fix something and he discovered' how to play with it laugh.gif

Now i only let him play with it when i am there to watch because it sometimes gets stuck so tight on their heads that they cant get themselves out.

Cim : still feeding RC.. but I think need to changed back to babycat.. cuz he like it more than kitten xD
*
If you suddenly changed his food that is why he is eating less.
RC kitten is very similar to RC babycat and thats why i suggested you could use it for the new female since RC babycat was not available.
They are similar but not the same.
Any food change has to be done slowly, When you totally take away the old food and give him only the new one in one shot it is bad for their stomach.

first day 90% old food 10% new food
second day 80% old food 20% new food
third day 70% old old 30% new food

and continue for 10 days untill it reach 100% new food

You can go a little faster or slower but never do the change at one shot.
If at any time during the change your hedgehog start showing signs of stomach trouble or abnormal behaviour then stop adding new food.

QUOTE(malowie @ Feb 29 2008, 05:40 PM)
i want a hedgehog! they seem interesting..

how long then only change the bedding?
*

Bedding is changed about once a week, but you might want to pick out the poos everyday to keep it cleaner.

some other things to consider before buying a hedgehog taken from a previous post.

forging a relationship with them takes time and patience.
Can you give the hedgehog the time and space it needs to adjust in the first few weeks?
Hedgehogs sleep alot, chances are you will only see him when you wake him up to play. Most hedgehogs will wait till its totally dark and quiet to come out by themselves.
Secondly can you have the patience to accept the fact that for the first few weeks or months your hedgehog might act like it hates you? they are not all affectionate, some are grumpy (personally i find this very cute) and even those that are affectionate take awhile to trust you. Many people get frustrated and give up in the first few weeks.
Once you form the bond and the hedgie finally accepts you, can you put in the time everyday to continue to maintain the bond for the next 3-5 years? If you dont there is a chance it will go back to square 1
Some hedgehogs do not like to be touched/carried, if you want a animal who can be cuddled and stroked a hedgehog might not be best for you. Of course there are hedgies that do love to be touched but there are just as many, if not more, that dont like it.
The maintainence cost is not high at all, however hedgehogs are exotic pets, if he gets sick you may need to travel far and spend alot to get a hedgehog the medical care it will need. Most vets do not have any idea what to do with a hedgehog.

Oh and yes, the wheel laugh.gif you will be washing a poop coated wheel... every... single...day...(dont even dream of getting away from this) for the rest of the life of the hedgehog. "Resistance is futile, you will wash my wheel"

If you can deal with all the above then by all means go for it. thumbup.gif

Dont just read the 1st page of this thread, do much more research BEFORE you get a hedgehog, not after.

too hot ?_? where you keep him?

Edit: going off now so wont be online till tmrw night
just want to let you know our normal room temperature is best for them, they like to be warm
dont put them in air-cond or aim a fan at them, normal ceiling fan is ok tho. Ventilation is good but not a direct breeze.
if they are too cool or there is a sudden temprature change it may cause them to go into hibernation, which causes a whole lot of problems.
if you dont know what to do during a hibernation attempt it will be fatal to the hedgehog.
but also dont put them outdoors or in direct sunlight.

will hedghog affect human health?
the beding and all?

haizz.still cannot hold her up
she bites me .
luckily just my nail
i love to see her play the wheel
but tired to clean it afterwards
haizz

Oh that should be ok, as long as you take her cage out of the room before you turn on air cond should be no problems.
The bedding might cause you to sneeze if your allergic to it ( in fact some hedgehogs can also be allergic to certain beddings ).
If your not allergic then as long as its not right next to your head when you sleep should be ok nod.gif
Hedgies are good at training people to wash their wheels laugh.gif

I think i will buy my Hedgie end of March or in the middle of the month. I saw theres a pet shop selling it. Look so sad, i just want to get one and make it happy. sad.gif
*
Yeah i know what you mean sad.gif its hard for me to go into a pet store and not get depressed.
So tempting to bring them home. But when you buy from a store that treats their animals badly all they do is restock and mistreat the next batch.
But due to your location im guessing no hedgie breeders there, so you have a good excuse to 'rescue' them from the pet shop icon_idea.gif

Isn't chicken food mixed grains? doh.gif

Went to that 88 marine place in Pandan Indah today, They had three hedgies 'for display purpose only'
one champagne, one chocolate snowflake, one albino

The albino and champagne look pretty fat, but the chocolate snowflake one was so skinny that the shape of the hipbones and rib cage can be seen clearly even through the spines! Not only that but he was injured, the left side of his face under the ear had alot of dry caked blood on it. His walk was unstable and he seemed to be dragging his rear right leg around.

What i suspect is either the albino or champagne (or maybe both, couldnt see because they were balled up) is also male and one of them is displaying dominance and charging their quills into him, and possibly also bullying and preventing him from eating.

The unhealthiest pet store hedgehog i have seen so far. Really pitifull. the 'for display purpose only' sign just makes me wonder if they are hoping to breed them...........

is it very skinny?
i can see a bit of my hedgehog's "waist" when it is walking...don't know is it too skinny or not..
but she eats very little, spend most of her time sleeping and playing the wheel..
*
Sometimes when they walk or turn you can see the 'waist', or even see a slight bump where the hipbones are when they stretch out, thats normal for lean hedgehogs, especially those wheel maniacs.
But the one i saw was really super skinny, the shape is not round or teardrop at all. The bone structure underneath was very visible, no matter keeping still or moving. When he balls up you can see even see his spine shape.
Even if you had never see a hedgehog before you could tell something was wrong with him sad.gif

Muchan i dont think ive ever heard or read that hedgies require any vaccination, but ill try to find out for sure and let you know.

Edit: No vaccination required, just remembered it was also on the first page of this thread.
QUOTE
With the proper care and diet, your pet can live to be 4 - 7 years old. Add to all of this the fact that they require no immunization shots

Hehe, shes sleeping so peacefully in an old t shirt atm.
I got her from a friend of Max's, I called him and asked if we could just see some pictures and he emailed them to us. There were four of them in the litter, all of them were very heavily snowflaked! really pretty babies. So we asked to reserve a girl.
We went to see them still not sure if were going to buy or not, and maybe just pay deposit and pick her up when we have everything prepared.
But when we saw her cannot tahan d laugh.gif movie plans also cancell. Brought her home straight away biggrin.gif
The other three were sold really fast, all boys i think.
