QUOTE(milky12388 @ Oct 28 2022, 10:52 AM) What an insight, did not know electric shaver need to do tedious maintenance. I still prefer gillette mach3 turbo. haha, Mach3 da best.It gets greasy inside, too, with our sebum and what not. Some parts are fragile, and often mistakes can be expensive. Electrical shavers are like printers, they really sell the replacement blades and shaving foam. ![]() |

QUOTE(Takudan @ Oct 27 2022, 08:06 PM) I'm surprised to see such a difference under microscopic view 😱 there is no ingrown hair when using electric shaver. Thanks for the insight.. I'm curious to know how it feels to touch though...? If "fraying the tips until they break" means the hair is less prickly to touch then that's actually better imo lol. How is it bad for the skin exactly? Does ingrown hair happen more often or something? after using it for few weeks, i think electric shaver is less efficient when compared to manual razor. electric shaver take more time to shave. u have to round back to shave the same place to get the same feel as using manual razor. its like 3 minute with electric shaver, manual just 1 minute and done. but it does eliminate the need to keep on changing razors every week or days. btw, electric shaver have better feel, eg less prickly feel. |

Electric shaver almost always have this net thing, so for the facial hair to get trimmed, it has to go through the holes first. It's like letting the shaver blades play whack a mole from inside the net. That's why always can miss a hair or two, not a clean shave unless being thoroughly repeated. Trimmer is the next best thing after manual blades.

QUOTE(Joe2Joe @ Oct 25 2022, 01:56 PM) I have used Trimmer, Shaver and Double Edge Safety Razor (or DE razor). Good info. Can you share which model you use for each category...Both Trimmer (below RM100) and Shaver (RM200+) are under Philips. DE you can explore this new shop called CHARMWISE. Here's my comment and rank from the cleanest. 1) DE Razor: DE Razor definitely shaves the smoothest. There are lot of things to explore from the razor, to shaving soap, post-shaving cream etc. So the journey is more interesting than electric trimmer or shaver. DE might take longer time initially until you get used to it. Can do dry/wet. Smoothness: 1st Time taken: 2nd Control: 2nd 2) Trimmer: If I need to shave fast, this is my go to. Although not as smooth as DE Razor, I think it's definitely smoother than shaver since shaver can miss a spot. I bought mine for a sub RM100 and only use this for dry shave without cream. Unlike DE razor where you definitely need shaving cream/soap to prevent from nicking, Trimmer can have better control in styling because your mustache/beard is not covered by soap/cream. Smoothness: 2nd Time taken: 1st Control: 1st 3) Shaver: I bought 2 shavers - one the cheaper option and the other one more expensive, thinking it will do a better job than the cheaper one. BUT I WAS WRONG. Both are equally bad. It's hard to shave and sometimes you miss a spot so it takes more time to complete the shave. Due to it's design, it's impossible to get the smoothest using shaver. (Disclaimer: I am not sure how other brand of shaver would do) Smoothness: 3rd Time taken: 3rd Control: 3rd |

Philips don't do repair for out of warranty shavers though. At least for my unit 1000 series where issues surfaced after 3.5 years.
Manual wise. Gillette Mach 3 nice. Shave2u also nice, but closing down at year end if i am not mistaken. Anyone know if Braun provide service to their electric shavers though? |

QUOTE(Takudan @ Oct 23 2022, 12:31 AM) Hi guys, I want to buy one for my bf but there's so many choices I'm a little overwhelmed. What I seek: you boyfriend like clean shave or got after shadow?- Budget 500, can go higher if ticks all my boxes - smooth shave if possible - wet/dry use - convenient to use (cordless, decent battery etc.) - durable (3+ years would be nice!) Note: he still uses good ol' manual shaver, and I read that it takes time to get used to and there's difference in the usage/technique... Please share your experiences if any! Some of these brands came up in my search... Any specific model to recommend? - Braun - Philips - Panasonic - Xiaomi Thanks in advance if shadow and his beard etc not very thick, I suggest get a philips trimmer < 300. clean shave requires a lot of preparation to prevent acne. |

QUOTE(CP-MH @ Nov 4 2022, 11:12 PM) Eeeeeh I saw fancy ones like Braun has something called a self cleaning port/station? Is that it? Judging from many responses so far... I guess I'll lower my budget and start smaller, at least won't feel that bad if it ends up not suitable |

Have a basic electric shaver. You may miss out some part of the hair and need return to shave. Putting pressure in effort for a closer shave actually equal to scratching the skin so it's not that great. Work best for those who constantly on the run.
My preference is manual shave. Simple, efficient and not time consuming. Want to try straight razor and still learning from YouTube. This post has been edited by Chisinlouz: Nov 14 2022, 12:22 AM |
