Hello all, I'm new to Pixel & gonna research more on this phone. How's the battery life for this phone? Can it last for a day with most usage of browsing, reddit, fb ?

I'm going to US next month, is it advisable to buy the phone from their physical store (Chelsea, NY) ?

Why? Photo better than iphone?
But I see the specs, the processor and gpu abit let down. Not much improvement in that area. Like mid range CPU n processor.
I am thinking to get from Australia when I go there in December. but not sure whether this pixel 7 is right or wait till 8. Still have time to think

Maybe overtime update it will get better .... Usually when device first release it still not really optimize to fullest potential....after prolong update, i believe it will preform better and probably surpass Iphone or any camera phone should you desire to compare with.... Remember Iphone is late to game and this is their first phone with pixel bending thus i don even think Iphone quality is not great either....

I have the latest iPad mini and while its a good device , sometimes iOS just drive me crazy . Still fine on a tablet but I wouldn't want to be restricted by iOS on my phone .

The CPU benchmarked about as fast as S22 Ultra in MrWhoseTheboss video , I don't see the need for it to be any much faster for now. If anything , efficiency and battery life is more important , at least for me .

Yeah, Nokia used to have it and copied over to Honor-> Huawei and then the rest.

Samsung also had it at some point, but they dropped it, not sure why?!

Was contemplating on pixel 7 pro (sg set)... however, the potential of no volte support (Digi network) made me resolved to not get it.

I am aware that there are workaround, but it's too much of a hassle and unfortunately my area needs volte to receive calls indoor.

Sigh, would love to experience the magic of google AI but volte support supercede it. tongue.gif

The feature may be added into the official one... But it's still depended on Telco providers to support it right? Since pixel is never officially released in Malaysia then it would need a lot of testing across the Malaysia Telco (Digi, Maxis, etc)

Cause previously I was using an Android phone that officially supported volte (used some dialer code to verify) but wasn't on Digi supported list. As a result, no volte and caused a lot of frustration. sad.gif

It's a hardware issue since the Pixel 7 pro's display is still using the old LTPO 1.0 display instead of 2.0. Doubt software will be able to fix this.

Users shouldn't be worried if they don't use adaptive brightness outdoors (which cranks up the brightness to 1400 nits) for extensive period of time that heavily tank's the phone's battery life.

From my experience using the Pixel 6 adjusting the manual brightness slider to 100% is sufficient or "good enough" to see what's on the screen.

Or Google could just use software to limit the max allowable brightness to keep power consumption low
But that'll never sit well with the users tongue.gif

QPR is the Quarterly Platform Release by Google as a beta ver of the sw .. you need to enroll as the beta tester
DNB is MY 5G infra provider

VoLTE, VoWiFi and 5G is telco enable setting eventhough the phone support it, it has to be enable by the country telcos. In MY, Usually telco will have a whitelist of phones that pass the SIRIM cert. This is what i know lah sweat.gif

If phone not in the list, to enable the above need root and enable the features via other app or mods

based on the google issue tracker, it looks like volte is supported --> https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/246168380#comment13

as for the 5G, Malaysia is not listed on google site and it is really up to the telco to support it --> https://pixel.withgoogle.com/5G/?visit_id=6...etworkinfo&rd=1

based on the google issue tracker, it looks like volte is supported --> https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/246168380#comment13

as for the 5G, Malaysia is not listed on google site and it is really up to the telco to support it --> https://pixel.withgoogle.com/5G/?visit_id=6...etworkinfo&rd=1

I still don't get it. Supported in the Dec patch? Or still have to wait local telco whitelist? Hmmm

Just my 2 cents ...

the first link is about supporting VoLTE. Based on comment #13,

"We support VoLTE for Celcom/Digi/Maxis(Malaysian Networks) on Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 and Pixel 6a."

I would deduce that google has done some paperwork / agreement with the local telco (again, I am not sure of what is the process of getting VoLTE support). The fact that it supports VoLTE is a plus for pixel users.

the second link is about 5G support (which is not the same as VoLTE). Who knows when or will pixel have 5G in Malaysia.

Again, all this is merely deduction till someone gets a pixel 7 phone and use in Malaysia. smile.gif

well explained ... but i think it will go back to the telco and DNB whistling.gif

as of now if u are on any official rom it wont have VoLTE enabled but then if u root and do the VoLTE module or xml mod you can enable the feature, means it is there but just local telco dont permit it sweat.gif
As for the QPR it has been enable most likely google force it to be enable at software side.

5G just finger cross for now for official rom but can enable also via app mod

Malaysian YouTuber unboxing (https://youtu.be/vrTRLpvsZxU)

If you looked at the comments, there were some on VoLTE availability and 5G support.

But for me, 5G support is not really a dealbreaker, cause I don't see the real world usage for it (don't really download or upload huge stuff over mobile). Also 5G tends to drain more battery.

Yea while some does want it, on normal days, I can get around 50mbps+ just fine on 4G, and since I don't do any heavy use, that's more than enough for me. Volte is absolutely necessary though, due to my line of work. And I do take a lot of photos of my kids nowdays, having a Pixel camera would be nice - my prev 4A works fine, but I needed volte and bigger screen ( getting old cant see lol)

Might get my self a 7 by early next year, if the Dec patch supports the big 3 telco volte.

Edit : Err just read about Pixel 7 only runs 64bit apps, isn't that... trouble? I admit I have no idea on this

Was contemplating on pixel 7 pro (sg set)... however, the potential of no volte support (Digi network) made me resolved to not get it.

I am aware that there are workaround, but it's too much of a hassle and unfortunately my area needs volte to receive calls indoor.

Sigh, would love to experience the magic of google AI but volte support supercede it. tongue.gif

Hi Spayre,

Is the issue of No VoLTE support only exclusive to the SG sets? I am not sure how true it is but we are already seeing a few
early purchasers of the US sets confirming VoLTE working on their sets via one of big telcos here. Being based in JB, getting
an SG set is the easiest option for me but I am waiting till year end - early next year to let Google and the early adopters to
work out the kinks ...

Cheers,

Hi V,

As I am aware, certain pixel models does not support VoLTE in Malaysia, regardless of it origin (US set, SG set). Not to sure why, but high chances is due that pixel is not officially sold in Malaysia, therefore lack of VoLTE support.

However, based on google forum (check my previous post), it is said that pixel 6 and 7 supports VoLTE in Malaysia.

I noticed at least 3 Malaysian Youtuber have posted their unboxing of pixel 7 pro today, so maybe there will be a full review after a couple of days. And we will know whether it supports VoLTE in Malaysia. smile.gif

Exactly, bro. Currently using the Pixel 3 XL (had the OG Pixel XL before plus a slew of Nexus devices before that) and the only way to get
VoLTE is to root which was also the case with the Pixel 6 series in the earlier stages. Google typically does not allow for VoLTE and even
5G activation for their sets being used with SIM cards of countries where the Pixels are not officially sold.

This applies to pretty much everything from the OG Pixel right up to the Pixel 6 series until this announcement in your post. Personally it
was a dumb move from Google when they have always marketed the Pixel range as a phone for Google enthusiasts from day one. There
has been enough rants, rage and complaints on their forum for so long and I am surprised to see they are fixing this issue especially for
a relatively small market like Malaysia. I waited for ages to replace my Pixel 3XL so I don't mind waiting for a couple of months more for
the Pixel 7 to mature as a product.

Cheers,
V.

Just saw your edited comment on 64bit app..

The Google Play Store has required all apps to have 64-bit support since August 2019, and it also stopped serving 32-bit apps without 64-bit support.

You won’t easily find a 32-bit app these days. We can think of just one 32-bit-only app: Flappy Bird, which was a fad for a short period of time.

Ahh noted, thank you for this!

Edit : So apparently I don't have any 32-bit apps. Granted, I don't have that many apps nor I play games on my phone, but when I said that Google adds the 64bit Playstore app requirement in a discussion about how the Pixel 7 will not support 32bit app, I was.. dragged down upon, saying this is not Apple, that many people still use 32bit app etc etc..

Think it was the Pixel facebook group. Might be wrong. Not like I really understand the pros and cons etc etc, but still... hmmmmm.

Anyway that's one more less stuff to worry about. Just need confirmation whether it'll support the big 3 Volte for good.

Ey, that's good news. As for 5G, I also have it as option in my 30 Pro - but it's not like I have coverage here..

So I suppose.. all those people complaining to Google worked? I mean if Xiaomi can do it no problem why not Google themselves..

Glad that Volte supported out of the box on Pixel7. no need to root and do manual update every month anymore biggrin.gif
I don't care much about 5G, will turn it off anyway.. any less useful feature that's gonna drain my phone battery, I will turn off
*
Hrnng starting to feel I should just get the vanilla 7, since it seems volte for the big 3 works fine. But prolly should wait till Dec, or till Sing units are available, methinks..

yup only volte/vowifi is crucial, e.g during map navigation and call coming in, then directly drop to 2g

While VoLTE support is essential, i do rely on vowifi because the coverage here is really terrible. Oh yea, this is in Putrajaya while some kampung area had better than this 🤣

Yea I dont really zoom stuff that much, plus I never liked those curved displays. And of cos, the diff in price is too much for me to justify lol, I'm not /k standard 20k salary.

Are there sellers with SG sets already? hmm.gif I do have.. my sister in law working there at the moment..

Edit : Apparently if direct convert, the SG units are more expensive than what, say, shiro is offering? Lol.

SG is the strongest currency yet in this region so direct convert will make it expensive whistling.gif
i think either TW or JP set is cheaper

even the seller in MY is selling a bit higher do to the service looking at around 3.5k for the entry model

Yes.. should be the same with p6 US Set. Thanks.

Dual SIM is the issue for me.

Xpax and Hotlink doesn't support esim yet.

VoWifi would be nice, aye. So does 5G. But I'm content if got volte out of the box, lel. Plus previously my e-sim works fine on my ol 4A, so that would be nice as well.

Read alot of reports that the p7 pro overheats very easily. Alot of topics on reddit as well as comments from the Malaysian youtubers who got the phone. The phone apparently overheats when taking photos/videos and then you have to wait awhile for it to cool down.

this one will also happen to p6 but after a while no more ... it can be fixed by sw updates
more or less throttle more hahaha whistling.gif

update ... read online that to do dual sim need to be 1 nano and 1 esim ... later may support dual esim whistling.gif

u will also see similar reports or video that rebut them and says it's working fine....anyway.....i don't think we will take 4k video outside for such a long time and it will take huge space as well..10GB for 1 hr? as long as working fine during normal usage shd bo k

Hi all. Been using the Pixel 7 Pro for the past couple of days. Volte works out of the box, no VoWifi unfortunately. Felt the phone get a little warm during setup and initial use but don't notice it anymore. Battery was bad on day 1 but adaptive battery takes sometime and now getting about 7 hours SOT. Purchased from Google Store US, no issues to bring in, just had to apply for Sirim permit. Call quality is excellent unlike my P6P that I had to give up due to massive amounts of dropped calls and poor coverage, the new modem seems to be working great. Everything else is typical pixel experience.

Most of the reviews said the modem is much more better and batt life too even on the smaller p7.
Is the sirim permit still as easy as paying rm100 and pass the copy to the courier company?

maybe can share the shop and the how to here? did u used forwarder?
also how much is the total cost?

The sirim permit is now done through https://ecomm.sirim.my/Login_External.aspx. create account, fill up the online form and submit docs like invoice, specs etc. approval is within 24 hours but i usually get mine on the same day. The cost is RM40 only now for Sirim Permit, and yes once you get it just forward it courier company for customs clearance.

I purchased my unit from Google Store US, got the 200USD credit as well. Google usually blocks forwarding address but somehow the one I use is still okay, its called comgateway. shipment + customs clearance roughly about RM500. Get it from Amazon Germany should be cheaper, total phone P7P 128 GB + shipment + customs clearance etc was about RM4100 but Amazon cancelled my order for some reason sweat.gif But there were those who got it from Amazon Germany no issues.

Only thing missing is VoWifi and Gpay. doh.gif

Hi yes Wifi 6E was only approved for use in Malaysia by MCMC early this year, so no issue to bring in the P7P. Last year my P6P was blocked by Sirim too. Attached the description I put in when I applied this time.

Hi all I've been using p7p naked for a couple of days and silly me thought that the phone will come with soft cases and screen protector out of the box like my old OnePlus 9. There are some scratches on my phone now. Does anyone know which retailer in Klang Valley is selling p7p case and screen protector while I wait for my case to arrive from Taobao ?

Additionally, is there a way to for me to have more info on the status bar i.e battery percentage, volte and etc ? Kind of not used to the stock status bar I have now

Maybe can try shopee with the local sellers
battery percentage will be at the battery setting or search for it at setting. VoLTE will be auto on the bar but if u are on wifi cant see the info.
There wont be any VoWiFi indicator unless you are in a call

Just curious, what's the difference between the quality for these branded cases and cheapos on Shopee? I buy alot of those between 5-15 bucks and keep swapping from time to time cause I prefer transparent types and they keep getting yellow

The quality of the plastic i think ... the cheap one will become yellow faster and it is more thinner. You cant run from the yellowing issues since even the most expensive also will be like that.
Beat the purpose but better buy the leather one like bellroy if you wan to spend more that RM200 on a case whistling.gif
or spigen one

those transparent type cases.. it will always turn yellow after some time.. branded one maybe take longer time, and it will get oily and disgusting doh.gif
so that's why I used the transparent one only for several months for showing off new Pixel brows.gif biggrin.gif
then I'm back to those cheap aliexpress fabric+tpu type.. bought plenty of them bcoz they are cheap, replaced them if got dirty.. and plus it is the most comfortable in my hand and not slippery

can't find one that I like yet for P7Pro.. so will use this matte case one temporarily

Good reason not to buy an expensive case then haha. I bought the matte one from shopee as well but it doesn't really cover the camera bump.

Bought quite a few of the cheapos on Shopee but I think I like thisthe best? It's sturdy and covers the whole bump

Don't buy the grey though, it looks kinda yellow 😂

That's the thing, Pixels dont have volte indicators.. And I'm seeing a lot of sets from JP/SG/TW/US in Lazada and Shopee. Seems availability isn't an issue like the 6. Really tempted to get the Jap ver, seeing as its the cheapest.. but worried if the volte won't work. Or all sets from all regions should work..?

Just wanna ask, what screen protectors are you guys using? My phone just arrived today. I bought some on Shopee, the film type and the curved glass. Both are bad.

Film feels like those old school screen protector, doubt it can do any help if drop. The curved tempered glass has an annoying sticky film at the fingerprint scanner. Can see obvious circle

😂 Oh well, it's cheap can buy again!

I just got my P7P today. Through Amazon UK > Buyandship
VoLTE doesn't seem to work even though I activated it in the settings. Not sure why, have to check further.

If you're worried about the size, yes it's chunky but it's surprisingly easy to use. Probably cause it's tall and slim. I upgraded from the P5 and I'm not really struggling with the size other than a fuller pocket and my compartment in my car not fitting the phone. Coming from a P5, I can't really tell the difference other than it's faster and there are more features with the camera.

Fingerprint unlock isn't great compared to my P5. I used to have my phone already unlocked by the time I take it out of my pocket, now it's 1 extra motion. Quite responsive but from time to time can get it wrong and have to enter code/swipe. Bring back the rear fingerprint sensor!

No tax and doesn't pass SIRIM either. Perks of Buyandship, duty included with the shipping cost. RM52 for 2lbs, the parcel was 1.2lbs.
Insurance was 130+ I think. They give you an option to return it if there's some problem with the insurance I think. I didn't read through but I saw it mentioned somewhere.

Is anyone interested in a Spigen Liquid Air case (Navy colour) for the regular Pixel 7?

I have a brand new one purchased from Amazon USA that arrived today/in hand. I decided to go with the Ringke Onyx case instead as it provides additional protection on the camera bar area.

PM me if interested! smile.gif

P7 camera bar is matte right. So should be ok I guess? But yeah I also prefer ringke one due to more coverage to cameras bar

Both Pixel 7 and 7 Pro's camera bar is aluminum coated with paint.

Alumnium, as we know it is a relatively soft metal and scratches easily so covering it up with either a case or film will help prevent light or deep scratches over the period of ownership.

One caveat though - even though the case design may cover the entirety of the camera bar, sometimes debris/fine sand that gets trapped between the case and the camera bar may cause scratches.

Just got my p7 pro sg set. Can confirm that volte does not work on maxis. Vowifi does not work as well.

Maybe it works but got no volte sign. Tried calling while on LTE? Still on LTE?

just collected my pixel 7 pro from shirogawa

first thing I noticed compared to my previous p6pro.. the fingerprint scanner feel so much faster.. and the face unlock is awesome.. I tested it will detect your face in max 50cm, combining both method to unlock my phone, I hope no more get annoyed when phone fail to unlock

my pixel 7 pro photos

I'm using maxis.. the Volte I tested working out of the box.. sad that no more vowifi since I got used to it when using pixel6pro.. but it's fine.. maybe I'll skip root this time.. I can live with volte only

I disabled the 5G.. no use for me .. save battery too biggrin.gif
at least volte working means not gonna get annoyed by crap quality call when it revert to 2g, but vowifi even better, can get HD calling.
not sure whether Clear Calling feature works or not, I think it is not region restricted, at least can improve call quality even without the vowifi HD calling

Congratulations on your receiving your phone! I just received my Pixel 7 aswell from Shiro aswell.

The first few things to do when setting up your new Pixel:

1) Preferred Network Type set to "LTE". Disable 5G
2) Disable Digital Wellbeing

The 2 above are the major battery draining culprits.

Since the Pixel 7 Pro/Pixel 7 also come with the default snore and cough detection working offline, it might be a good experiment to disable it aswell to save some idle battery life if the feature isn't something you find useful.

Just checked with Maxis. You have to contact them to activate VoLTE on your account. Said it'll activate within 24 hours. Gonna wait and see

oh yes that's right.. I forgot about that..
Previously, I contacted them as well because it still not working even after I rooted my pixel 6 pro and felt weird coz tested not working too in my huawei p30, then I contacted them, I told them I'm using P30 (supported volte/vowifi devices), then they enabled it from their side.
So, take note to those still unable to make volte working.

yes.. I stick it myself. Luckily it is perfect, no bubble whatsoever.
I put on so many hydrogels protectors before including other people's phones, so kinda no issue for me.
Better buy spares (they are cheap) so that you can do multiple times if not satisfied, and follow the video guide properly. good luck icon_rolleyes.gif

what are you looking for? tempered glass or hydrogel film ?
I don't think normal physical shop selling pixel accessories, so you might need to buy online
tempered glass is easier to install so you can install yourself if you don't have much experience
if hydrogel film, maybe you can bring it to local shop and pay them to apply it for you

Can't seem to find any proper tempered glass til now. I really dislike the one with the circle in the middle. I'm using the hydrogel but I don't feel it's as safe as a tempered glass.

On a side note, does anyone know how to dim the fingerprint sensor effect? It shines super bright when I'm checking my phone in the middle of the night

that's how it works.. it needs to bright up the finger in order to scan in dark.. even if possible to dim, it may not be able to scan properly and fail
ultrasonic scanner is the only way, maybe pixel 8 biggrin.gif

yeah.. unfortunately that's the drawback of curved screen. sad.gif
it is quite costly to use tempered glass.. easy to break from small drop and you need to replace them, they are not cheap too, certain phone cases also can cause issue with tempered glass
I survived one year using pixel 6 pro without any screen protector with zero scratch.. using hydrogel with p7p now, hopefully no big drop happen sweat.gif

What kind are you referring to?

You can buy from Laz or Shopee, then take it to the phone shop.. have to pay, but just once and should be cheap.. most of the time you won't even change it for another 2 years unless you drop it.

oo.. usually google photos sync turned on and uploading at background is pretty hot.. especially using mobile data & taking photos at outdoor.. cause mobile data connection running, adaptive brighness might cause display brightness crank up.. all may cause heat.. but ya i just guess.. somehow everyone have different understanding on overheating term.. but yes, recently android phone chipset not perform well against to competitors but they are still top in android market.. as long as not like SD 810 chipset in few years back, i think its good.. SD810 could easily go up to 50celcius+

okay.. with gimbal and EIS turn off could do that.. if normal ppl without gimbal and turned on EIS, would have jittery feel in video..

Best thing about that video is there is no annoying lens flare , which is quite prominent on the iphones .

Still can't replace my mirrorless yet for video but I'm happy with the stills ! Just got my Pixel 7 snow today biggrin.gif

Heads up to those claiming your free watches/buds, you can't use forwarding addresses and it needs to be a legit local address from where you bought. I think they blacklisted most forwarding addressses.

I shipped mine to my hotel in the UK since I was gonna travel there. It says it'll ship within 60 days

Seem you need to add it manually instead using the qr scanner. Use another qr scanner app to get the code from the image, then add manually with the instruction below.

Seem you need to add it manually instead using the qr scanner. Use another qr scanner app to get the code from the image, then add manually with the instruction below.

Name says google malaysia doesn't mean it's from google malaysia.

When it comes to expensive purchases, I usually only choose preferred or mall sellers.

Hello I am back
Got my phone on 27th, but lazy to login LYN (cos gotta get VPN if outside Malaysia). Transferred my data within 40min via usb-c from P3. Got my phone about 2pm, 3pm gotta catch a taxi to airport for work. So basically just went around with it now.

Got my LTE watch as well. Been using my phone naked and sibeh smooth, like soap. Getting cover soon by end month. Phone so far ok, watch kenot charge by the phone unless wired.

Can pay with watch (I migrated my Google play store to Germany one), linked via wise.

Feel like hmmm maybe I should've just gotten the P7, and don't really need the watch. Easy to navigate la if walk a lot and can pay without my phone nearby (but need wifi ya or alternatively LTE, but I don't have extra sim for it)

I travel around with my other phone hotspot for my P7P and watch.
Sometimes lazy bring P7P out cos using Malaysia line in it.

Shopee or local seller is still better option than importing yourself, save the hassle even though maybe 200-300 more expensive.

Just got the Pixel 7 (6.3").

Is it me or the screen is a bit dim? I need to ramp up to 60% brightness to match my outgoing Samsung Flip 4's 35% brightness (rough estimate by looking a the brightness sliders on both phones).

First of all, good to hear our 5G works..

Even though I rather hope for stable 4G.

But why would you root a Pixel???

Feel like this is more on the telco side not supporting phones that aren't officially released in Malaysia. (Correct me if i'm wrong).

I more believe is because of telco as what eugene above mentioned. I don't see any reason for Google to disable 5g for Malaysia region. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, I am interested to know as well

yes this is correct ... telco sometime have to maintain some level of service with the maker of the phone like why s21 series still not be able to use 5G while s22 can sweat.gif
As for pixel it is not officially sold here so there wont be any support from the telco, nevertheless it still can work with root and the 5G hack

Pixel still OK. Plenty of guide around for root cause user base is big. Other device that is not officially available in Malaysia and small user base won't even have chance to root to get it support if by default it's not supported.

True but not sure how long it will take. If they want to reserve exclusivity and partnership with certain brand to earn then maybe not so soon.

5g cost a lot for all telco. I believe they will try very hard to squeeze as much benefit as they can including their partner to generate profit.

Anyhow I believe after it's widely available like what you mind then will go to direction everyone supported as long as hardware allow so

Got my Pixel7pro 2 days ago, great phone so far, even coming from a P6pro. Haven't had overheating issues too; recorded a 4k video for 15 minutes straight with no warnings or overheating.

Just a heads up, the usual hack of editing the xml file for carrierconfig still works. So to add wifi-calling, I did the usual root, extract the file, added in this line

<boolean name="carrier_wfc_ims_available_bool" value="true" />

And now have wifi calling. Tested and it works (wifi icon appears next to my phone call when calling on wifi). Volte works out of the box so no issue also. So after that, reflash the stock init_boot.img and now back to unrooted and still having both Volte and wifi calling smile.gif

Cheers

Hi all, finally made the decision to jump into the Pixel world. Made an order for P7 (JP unit) last night, according to the seller I’ll prolly get it after a week. Has anyone here tried converting it to the global version in order to get the option to turn off the shutter sound?

I found this config in the android source code and docs, in theory it should enable 5g NSA, but don't think anyone tested it yet.
if you're willing to experiment and you're on a 5g supported network could you try if adding this to the xml file see if it enables 5g?

CODE
<int-array name="carrier_nr_availabilities_int_array" num="1">
<item value="1" />
</int-array>

if the key already exist in the xml file then you should replace it.

I removed all volte mod and network guru. Then proceeded to add that, it seems to be working. Which was kinda suspicious. So i removed everything and 5g seems to work either way. Weird.🤔

I reinstalled network guru and set nr back to auto/default. Uninstalled and rebooted. 5g still works. 😆. I think the network might be updated on the telco end, i can see volte and wifi calling enabled without the mod. I can assure you this never happen when i was on 6 pro. Keep in mind im on 6pro a week after launch last year.
Will update about this once i update to dec build and set from stock settings.

Just make sure you don't enable 5G yet as it might consume battery while searching for 5G signal.
If you already put in the line, can you check what's the "NR Available (NSA)" field status in *#*#4636#*#*

Does anyone notice this battery usage by the "Messages" app? Almost every one of the 2-hour period column will show the app running 2 hours straight.

It is a noticeable drain on the battery.

I myself not using the app eventhough I have set up the phone (still waiting for a casing to arrive).

I have also declined to set up RCS everytime prompted.

That's odd, I don't face this problem. Did you try clearing cache and/or storage and see if it clears up? I even restored my old SMSs into the phone but no wakelock like yours.

I got mine from Amazon Germany; funny thing is it was cheaper buying the phone with a case than just the phone itself. If local resellers, my only experience is with Shirogawa. Bought a few pixels from him before and his track record so far is very good. Hope this helps

It went away by itself 😅 Hasn't occurred whole day today.

I did "uninstall" the app (updates) and the app went back to its out-of-the-box version. Nevertheless the excessive usage still came on and off. So, I just updated it back to the latest version and let it be.

Today haven't seen any such activity. Probably it has done whatever it wanted to do.

Can confirm that if you jump between 4g and 5g, it consumes alot of battery. Currently in Europe and everytime it does that or search for line, the battery drains super fast. I would skip 5g altogether but it can't be disabled with this mobile network(three)

Can confirm that if you jump between 4g and 5g, it consumes alot of battery. Currently in Europe and everytime it does that or search for line, the battery drains super fast. I would skip 5g altogether but it can't be disabled with this mobile network(three)
*
I think in KV it is better with the 5g coverage since i am not getting annoyed with the batt drain. You in Europe how is the coverage of 5g?

Horrible. Might as well not use 5g cause every other 10meter or inside a building there's minimal line too. I have very very very low expectations of 5g from my experience here 😂

I'm using the LTE version from EU. I never put sim card, just teether from wifi from my Motorola. Now in Germany

I sometimes bring only my Motorola out with my watch leave my P7P home.

I use it for:
Tracking my sleep
Tracking my steps
Google maps (works only for walking, not via public transport yet), driving and cycling can
Use it to pay with Google wallet
Read and reply Whatsapp (but cannot send new one wtf I tell u)
Overall, if it wasn't free I wouldn't buy it, might as well get pixel buds pro imo

the thing with Google is that they always, almost, seem to get it right on the first try when launching a new hardware, but never great from the get go. It's only after several generations, then you'll start to see major improvements. Same goes for the watch as well.

More to it is a nice thing to have, but not really required for me.
Nice to use it for direction, see time and msg when meeting, camera button for the phone. Lack a few things update can do e.g. sync alarm, sync sleep mode, Whatsapp app, commuting data.

Supposed to exercise more with it but hehe, orang malas mencari alasan, orang rajin mencari jalan.

Battery life ok, usually I charge in the morning when I bathe and at night before I sleep. Goes down from 10% to 70ish% at night.

About 10-15min enough.

But my opinion stands, wouldn't get it if it wasn't free. Now the market here filled with people trying to sell the watch (used or sealed) in

Hi all, finally made the decision to jump into the Pixel world. Made an order for P7 (JP unit) last night, according to the seller I’ll prolly get it after a week. Has anyone here tried converting it to the global version in order to get the option to turn off the shutter sound?
*
I've finally got my Pixel 7 (JP) and also managed to convert it to the global version by following the steps given by a guy in XDA. I've also flashed the global ROM into it and relocked it, so now my camera shutter can be turned off in the option. icon_idea.gif

Basically what is the major difference between the JP ROM and global ya? Never used a Pixel with JP ROM before so don't know much about it, hence the question.

I think there are no major differences. The reason why I flashed the global ROM is to fully convert the phone into a global phone instead of the JP model. At least the global version is meant for our neighbouring regions, which I believe should work better with our carriers. In addition to that, the global version has already been upgraded to the November patch whereas the JP version is still on October.

I’m using the following guide:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/converti...ersion.4365275/

I’m not sure if it’s against the forum rules to share the link to XDA above, if yes then admin please delete my post ya.

Bear in mind that you need to root your phone first. So you’ve to be very careful and there is a step that requires changing the phone’s SKU using a hex editor. If you’re unfamiliar with all these, you better don’t do it to avoid bricking your phone. Perform the conversion only if you’re technically comfortable to do it.

These are the SKUs for Pixel 7:
GVU6C - Global
G03Z5 - Japan

Disclaimer:
Research before acting.
The instructions require basic Linux/Android knowledge. You could brick your phone if you’re unsure what you're doing.
I can only confirm that this works on my phone. But I'm not responsible for anything that happens to yours. Use at your own risk.

Yes there is a magisk module in the same thread as well if you scroll further down but the owner of the module hasn't included the Pixel 7 into it yet. Only the pro model has been included.

Happened to me once a while.. just flipped Aeroplane Mode on and off will do the trick. On Hotlink prepaid by the way.

(Assuming your SIM card already activated with VoLTE and VoLTE working on another phone?)

Called Maxis , they say will provisions my number and I asked why it is not auto activated as stated in website ,they answer system glitch .

Then say need specify model and said Google pixel not supported, I simply give a model at the end (Samsung s22 ultra which I bought with maxis) and they say say will provisions base on the IMEI.

Now I really confuse haha

I'm using pixel 3XL, then Pixel 5 then now Pixel 7,

Previous 2 pixel not supporting VoLTE.
After calling them and restart my phone now I got my VoLTE.

For those with an unlocked bootloader, Google pay won't work, at least on an unrooted Nov stable build for the GP7 pro. But funny thing is, on the Android 13 QPR Beta, it can be set up and works. Just tried it this morning.

And the beta also has the clear calling feature, but that should come out in a stable build soon i suppose.

Called Maxis last night and got them to activate volte for me and seems like it’s working now. Initially they kept saying just turn it on in the phone settings but after a few rounds of explaining to them that they have to activate it on their end, finally only they understood.

Hey, congrats on making it work finally. May i know how is quality of maxis with this phone? Especially in lower ground of buildings/malls. Im thinking of moving to maxis.

I think it's quite subjective because it depends a lot on the availability of the antennas/towers in that particular location. I'm in Melaka, so it may not be relevant to you if you're elsewhere. The best way for you to determine if the locations that you'll frequent most have the best signal strength is to ask your friends or colleagues who are also within the same location. For my case, I don't have much issues with signal strength in buildings/malls unless that area is relatively new, prolly without the antenna installed yet.

australia. got it $1036

they are having black friday sales now and heard the google store can price match the retailers + $300 google credit during black friday. that's a bargain
*
Just did this rclxm9.gif
But had to contact them via Live Chat a few times - to price match, to push for refund (in case they deny after the sales period)

Best part is...the google tax invoice is based on A$1299 sellling price, should be able to claim back GST (about A$118)
And I have A$300 Google Store credit now which will expire next year end November

Phone will be shipped to my friend's place and i won't be getting it till Jan doh.gif

hello, just curious.

can i get opinions on the charging speed for p7 or p7p? smile.gif

is it fast enough for daily usage? i know usage is depending on users but just curious on the speed day to day usage when needing recharge as battery capacity i think is big enough right

You're right, it all depends on individual usage patterns. For me, it's not the fastest in charging but acceptable. I came from OnePlus 7T which has 30W charging and I usually charge from about 15% till 100% in about an hour and a couple more minutes. So now with the Pixel 7 with the same charging patterns, I prolly need an hour and 20mins to charge till 100%.

In terms of battery endurance, I usually need to charge my OnePlus by the time I got home from work around 7pm. With this Pixel, I still have about 50% battery left at that time. So for me, it's a give and take scenario.

Pixel 7 should support voLTE for our Maxis, Celcom and Digi.

YES does not support.

Double confirm with the seller. I'm not using P7 Pro.

Does anyone know how to focus on multiple subjects when taking pictures?

I realize this happens alot now with my P7P compared to my P5 when it doesn't focus on the whole but just 1 subject. I used to be able to take multiple items better but with the p7p it tends to want to give that bokeh effect to everything else that it's not focusing on. It happens alot with food as well when I try to take a flatlay or multiple dishes

That is the disadvantage of big sensor. 14 pro max also same problem compared to 13 pro max.

Pixel 5 1/2.55" pixel 7 pro 1/1.31
13 pro max 1/1.66 14 pro max 1/1.28

Make sure subjects are within the same focusing plane... subjects shouldn't be stacked in front of one another but should be side by side.

Or make sure using the widest lens or using pro mode to set a smaller aperture.

Believe it or not, I'm still using the Pixel 3 XL since mid 2018 making it 4 years+

1) How is the battery life of the 7 pro?

2) Definitely need a phone with much brighter screen outdoors and a much better battery life. My SO's S22Ultra has both. Can the Pixel 7 pro provide both?

3) Can the Pixel 7 pro switch between lenses during 4k video 60fps video recording? The S22Ultra cant.

1) One solid day of mixed use.

2) If you are outdoor and use the phone all the time(let me repeat, all the time), it will boost to max brightness which is very visible. Your battery will not be able to last till night time.

3) yes

The front camera so far works fine, but the portrait shoot was a bit off due to over process and sharpening.

Hi guys, thinking of getting a p7 / p7 pro from either SG or USA as will be travelling there for work.

Was wondering if I can just purchase any unlocked device from there or is there anything I need to look out for in particular?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Hi guys, thinking of getting a p7 / p7 pro from either SG or USA as will be travelling there for work.

Was wondering if I can just purchase any unlocked device from there or is there anything I need to look out for in particular?

Thanks for the help in advance!
*
Just go to walmart or bestbuy, they sell unlocked. Or better yet, order it straight from the store. They will give u an option to buy the unlocked version. I bought mine straight from google store. Its pretty straight forward.

hey all, was wondering what's a good screen protector and also case that you guys have been using?
i bought my 7 pro early on and just took on the default case mate and some random screen protector.
Looking for something that can provide extra grip on the phone (case mate is a bit slippery)

Hi, I'm using Ringke Matte Case and just a film screen protector. So far is ok to be use. If you want to have more grip, maybe you can look on Dbrand grip case.

Curved screen usually people will recommend film/TPU type protectors as the normal glass protector will have issues
If you want the glass type protector, you'll need the type with UV glue (cured with UV light)

If you can understand Chinese, this video showcase all the different types of screen protectors in the market currently and which are the recommended types for different screen

Yeah I noticed you can't have something being slightly behind or infront.

Just a little update on 5g(root). I no longer need to use the volte module. Simply use network signal guru and choose network mode to sa+nsa.no reboot required too.
Also, 5g is now using both 4g and 5g simultaneously. 🥳👏

Anyone here having experience with the SIRIM thing?

Was told by DHL Express to get the permit from them.

Stucked at the type of product (bunch of equipment codes) and category (radio or telephony).

After submitted, how long to get it approved and pay the for the permit (via online?)?

Not really, DHL Express just follow the rules, no point for them to flaunt the law for us.

Anyway, I got it sorted out and submitted it yesterday night.

This morning gotten the email to make payment, just RM 40 only.

Clearance letter received not long after, forwarded it back to DHL.

Now just wait for it to arrive and pay the tax on the spot.

Finally received my unit this morning after all the waiting and minor hassle.

Have not put in a simcard yet, doubt 5G will even show up as both my SIMs are prepaid.

Started to install apps one by one, instead of transferring via Google backup.

Banking apps and Whatsapp should be last.

For banking apps, need to unlink from previous phone 1st? Is the method mostly the same for most banks?

For Whatsapp, manually copy from previous phone or via Google backup (possible to restore only Whatsapp)?

One of these methods will mess up the photos date order due to sudden large 'new' photos going in to Gallery? Wait... there's only Photo, no Gallery app eh? Any 3rd Gallery app that you recommend?

Banking app no need to unlink, register in new phone, it should have an option to delete older device (for case like mbb & cimb app), in general if u want to sell or give to anyone your old phone, just do factory reset, kawtim.

whatsapp backup, use Google Drive backup is easier. it will take a while depending your backup size.

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced > Private DNS.
use google's
dns.google

or cloudflare's
one.one.one.one

unless you need other dns server. i can provide some that i use.

Used dns.adguard.com on my phone. It's the best so far in blocking almost all ads on apps with purchases. Doesn't work on FB and YT, sadly.

Hey guys...

Anyone used roaming with our device before? Especially via Celcom. Curious if it works okay.

Reason am asking is previously had a Nexus 6P and roaming couldn't work on it. Mostly due to our phones not being recognized by the telcos. Not sure if that sorta thing doesn't occur anymore.

I'm using Pixel 7 but on Maxis. I had no issues roaming in Bangkok last 2 weeks ago, pretty seamless. Only problem is that I couldn't get 5G roaming there because our devices do not support 5G for all these countries unless rooted.
