It really depends how involve you want to be in the hobby.

For me cons 1. mx red too light 2. no hotswap 3. not cheap and better alternatives is available

but these are thoughts from a hobbyist, most wouldnt care and with rm200 discount it is not the worse deal. Looking at alternatives you can buy a aluminium hi75 sub RM300 and use the rest on switches (rm60++) + fav keycaps of your choice

They are not fakes, i think MMD is just another manufacture doing their own iterations of pandas at a lower price. You will find a lot of these patterns all over.

Just keep your mind open and test them out yourself.

So all the pandas on the market are not "genuine" pandas! LOL

The other thing is, in switch terms, original is not necessary the best too.

That's the reason we see so many releases, reiterations, new versions, or different manufacturers trying to "improve" the formula. You can measure certain specs and characteristics of the switches, but nobody can tell you how it feels in your own hands, on your own board with your own setups.

Yes it's totally subjective. i went from thocky gang to clacky fast, and going from tactile to linears and now don't even mind clickies for varieties.

The available amount of products are pretty intense though, I can see newcomers getting a bit overwhelmed.

Nice, love Jades. I don't really mind jackets too.

In fact these days i type more with scratchy mx blacks which I used to think was bad.

Didnt watch the video but Corsair has since acquired Drop so they are trying to catch up I guess.

QUOTE(horns @ May 10 2024, 09:10 PM)
yes, i have ws silent linear. compared to other silence implementations, ws silent linear has relatively lesser mushiness. all silencing implementations have some levels of mushiness. basically this is unavoidable.

from brief specification checks recently, gateron and kailh have few interesting innovations in key switch designs. gateron zero degree is the silent linear that i wanna try out later. it uses double-rail design, with built-in silencing pads at the bottom housings.

right, their default oem is haimu. i think ws wanna add full-pom linear in their selection, and gateron is making linears with their full-pom formula quite recently. note that for these key switches with shorter total travels, you should check the travel for actuation as well. some are not near 2mm, but much shorter, e.g., 1.2mm only. this normally creates a 'potong stim' feel, not comfortable for me.
*
Yes I too wanted to check out the zeros and all the ws. To me the dual rail is questionable in terms of wobble improvements, i have the Melodics and they still wobbles, nowhere as good as hmxs.

How to find out about the actuation point, is it listed in specs?

QUOTE(horns @ May 13 2024, 05:26 PM)
the 'actuation point' is normally called pre-travel, i.e., the distance the stem travels before actuation happens. there are a number of names that have the same meaning, e.g., 'operating travel'. for key switches that follow mx design, it's usually at 2mm. (total travel is 4mm) if a force-travel diagram is provided, it's the distance to reach the operating position/point.

edit: the following example is from gateron, for their north pole series.

hahaha ok i get it now. This difference is due to stem design?

which HMX did you used before. I was contemplating to get some HMX linears to try them out since I saw people provided good comment for them.

*
I tried a few, my favorite is probably Lotus and Xinhais.
But all of them are minor tweaks from each other (all linears with different travels, materials, spring weight etc) so they are all similarly great. Factory lubed, smooth, less wobble than others, but super loud biggrin.gif

it's a sad news indeed.

this is why i appreciate local shops. i do visit and get stuff from them from time to time. i know it's not much, but i try support them whenever possible. (honestly, my stocks of parts are growing, but most of them are untouched)

i really hope all of them do well, so that there are always better places for new users to start their first step.

Yeah so far i think all the dealings with local vendors has been great. Many genuinely passionate people in the hobby.

But group buys are just so easily getting burnt so big turn off.. I'm just glad these days you can get good stuff easily and not super pricey.

Nice recommendation. I'm looking for some loud linear switches to try out. Something with similar weight to the vertex V1 that are loud.
Those HSMX xinhai and lotus are of very different spring weights, are they significantly different?
*
Not much. Earlier batches of Xinhais are 45g bottom out whereas Lotus 50g, they only recently added another 60g+ weight versions, haven't try those.

But of the two I do slightly prefer Lotus because of the additional weight (5G) and travel (.1mm), Xinhais are too light for me. Lotus has a more aggressive clack though. From specs it seems Vertex V1s are quite a lot heavier.

I've seen some local vendors stock these already, so no harm visiting them to try.

Rather than investing more on switches i think better understand what you dont like about the current board first, is it the switches? hard steel plate? What board and switch you using?

Silent switches are expensive and not particularly great feeling, if it doesn't suit you might as well get a membrane LOL

I have used my CM Storm Trigger Z with Cherry MX brown for 10 years.

Now i wanna get another full size KB but with more tactile feel than MX brown switches .

Any recommendations ?
*
With tactiles the bump shape and actuation force differences made each model unique and experience subjective.

Therefore I suggest to go with a hotswap board then you no need to worry if switches fit you for not.

Hotswap boards are very common and not expensive these days, but finding a full size one can be quite challenging.

It also depends what you're using it for mostly. Personally I love tactiles, but since I game more I have to settle with linears for easy spamming haha.

For me I would take a look at the qwertykeys QK100.

Hi i'm new to mechanical keyboards and looking to get a TKL or 75% size and needs to be quiet and ideally below RM300. Any recommendations?

I prefer to get locally.. at least if anything's up you can check with the local vendors.

Take a look at these, plenty of selections and you can try them out in their shops in KL.

Do you guys pay attention to keycap set designs?

As a late comer to the hobby i'm sorta meh with most of the current GMK sets, while a lot that is cool to me is long gone and pretty unobtanium..
