for mx key switches, no. what made you so sure that this is not switch, or hardware related?

did you try to test the pcb while it's bare? meaning do a full teardown, and type on the bare pcb.

i yet try that. if it doesnt happen on bare board typing, can directly suspect foam causing problem?

you can, but it's better to confirm the cause so that you can solve it correctly.

duhuk (formerly lumia) x qk (qwertykeys) qk01 is a 5-pin, factory-fine-lubed linear key switch that has a special switch top (pc + ptfe), stem (pom + ptfe + mos2), bottom housing (pure pa66), and a 2mm long stainless steel springs. it has a total key travel distance of 3.5mm, bottom out at 58g. the manufacturer is Grain Gold (禾金电子).

the specification above is different from what was posted at rebultkeyboards.com, but is the same as zf's.

for those who are interested in the key switch, you can check it out here.

edit: these days, new stuff are beginning to come out. hopefully i can pick few up, and have some fun. it's really been a while.

Was building my QK80 and I used those third party Gmk clones keycaps …. The space bar was off centre and caused the sound to be really off.

Rotating the space bar made it sound a lot better but it was just a pain to use it at that orientation.

I just ordered some epbt keycaps. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

You can see a gap between the space bar and the case.

I opened up the MG75 (where have serious double press on numrow)
i cut a section of extra poron layer i apply, where i suspect it squeezed too hard when screw the pcb.

will feedback later. maybe next week (weekend+holiday coming)

Hey guys. Planning to get a TKL keyboard and currently looking at the Q3 keychron. Need some advice. I saw Keybot’s page on Shopee listed for rm300 (Barebone) but their official website sells it for rm589. The same navy blue barebone Q3. Am I comparing the right products ?

you should pm the seller at shopee to confirm that it's a q3 barebone, and the price is correct, not a mistake.

qk01 is ok in general. the factory fine-lubing part is surprisingly ok. it's loud, and with higher pitch compared to vertex v1/cherry mx red when bottomed out.

i have just built a plateless build with stock qk10, with mixed pcb-mount stabs from wuque's v2, and tx (space bar). it's with minimal spring/leaf pings, and smooth (fine-lubed style)

however, i do hope they make key switches that have 4mm total travel, instead of 3.5mm.

edit: in terms of stock feel, compared to jwk jade rabbit, qk01 is relatively better, while haimu's is relatively behind these two imo.

that's about it for now. recent releases of prelubed linear key switches are acceptable to be used as is. however, fine tuning is still recommended if they don't work the ways you expect them to.

a new trend has started in the space of high-end kits. the idea has been around for quite some time, i.e., switch support beyond mx, and monokei kei v2 is the first one to support mx, as well as ec (a.k.a., topre).

hopefully in the future, such a feature can extend to support low-profile and hall effect (he) key switches as well.

usage: programming, in the office.

since you have a tight budget, you can check out cherry g80-3000s tkl. it has cherry mx silent red as key switch option.

edit: unlike older days, now there are plenty of options to choose from at places like shopee. it's better for you to do own research, and short list the ones that you are interested in then decide.

Hi all

been using RK96 for 10 days
it has the red switches

before this I used a HP rubber dome keyboard
and the A key rubber dome crapped out

so my experience is limited, what is and should be

My problem with the RK is that, while all the keys are light (linear reds)
the spacebar seems exceptionally sensitive, to a point where I can featherily glide with my finger on the space bar will activate the switches

So am thinking of changing some switches and looking at Gaterons Yellow

is this enough for an ex-dome user, or do I need to go tactile browns/blues?

or is this the growing pains of changing from rubber to mecha?

you should replace the stock switch for space bar with gateron yellow/black, or cherry mx black. if you have friends that are in the hobby, you can try ask if they have stock springs of the switches mentioned. in general, just swap the spring with the heavier ones.

edit: i usually use cherry mx black's stock spring or equivalent for space bar too. it feels better to me. however, i will mistype a lot if i used them for other keys.

ok welcome to the club haha

since you have a hotswap board, it's good for you to get familiar with that board, then learn things at your own pace.

stock prebuilts are usually underperformed. it's up to you to make it better for yourself.
