So i was with this MNC company for more than 10 years and decided to quit and jump ship to a medium consultant firm. I've more than 16 years of work experience too..

Reason is :

1. After 10 years my basic salary is still consider underpaid in my line

2. Management prefer to promote fresh face and newbies

3. Working environment is becoming toxic

4. My own career development is being halt by my management

5. Lack of manpower is getting worse - i'm doing a 4 person jobs at the moment

6. I started to lost the passion and joy in my works

But the good news is new company is paying me more than 1.5k different. Plus the workplace is just 5-10min commute from my house. Current one is 30min unless i need to go to site then become 1hour plus.

I'm scared (probably coz jumping ship from top gun to lil gun) but at the same time happy as finally leaving this environment. A lil bit unsettling feeling coz i dunno how the new place gonna be also..

Wish me luck peeps and please share any similar experience u have similar to me ?

No its a Malaysian conglomerate company but has been strong for more than 50 years with subsidiaries in property, construction, medical, education etc.

Yearly increment rate on good year is 7% but normally is around 5% (but this is from my subsidiaries view).

if you know your self worth there is nothing to worry about jumping to another working environment.
only problem is the people.
whether your new colleagues are good or not, is hard to say.
if not either you change to adapt or find a new place.

all the best, i think you made the right move.

You made the correct decision to jump the ship now. This is normal in banking industry which everyone keep jumping around every 2-3 years to pump their salary and gain new exposure / experience in the same time. Don't feel hesitate or regret with your decision, this is wise choice. If you stay longer again, the employer may not feel comfortable to hire you as 10-15 years in the same company will give them an impression that candidate is already in the comfort zone.

Good luck and all the best for your new chapter.

Jumping when you push & pull factor is no-brainer.

When you have only push factor but no pull factor, treat your new place as temporary platform until you find a better place.

When there is plenty of pull factor but no push factor, prepare to work harder to adjust from comfort zone.

When you have neither, just treat it as refresh of environment and assess again in 1 year

Anyone who stays will always be underpaid. Employers, like any other human being, always want more for less.

A change of state ie. jumping will always be a bit scary because you take on new risks. You are essentially being rewarded for taking on new risk. Get comfortable with risk and you will be rewarded well.

This new place is offering me new skillset that i cant get in my current workplace. Once i hone this skills to near perfection i'm gonna try for another MNC company using this new set of skills as my advantages.

It is scary because you are dealing with "unknown" environment. Once you get adapted to the new environment, it may not be a scary anymore. I think the worst will be on how to blend into the new working culture / office politics.

Office politics, anywhere you go, it is always there. It is going to test your ability to deal with different peoples.

Congratulations!

Had a previous situation in my previous company where hard work and initiative did not get promotions but the skill of office politics, which admittedly i suck at.

All the best in your new job and always be looking out for opportunities.

I've tried put up with it for 4 years and its getting worse to the point its affecting my works. Hence.. The bye bye..

Ironically. My own Manager kind a accept my resignation but the Head HR call me in after few days and have a 'long' talk with me and try to persuade me to stay altho he's not pushy.

Then i heard from him that other Managers complain that i resign (apparently i'm a favorite to them).

Thank you bro.. I like ur attitude as i suck in sucking up to management also. I'm the one that usually put up with all the hard works rather than ordering people around.

Hopefully the grass is a lil bit greener on the other side. Finger cross and will try my best biggrin.gif

Jumping ship can be scary

But, it gives you a new perspective.

Try the new place, you may like it, you may not. But, you are giving yourself a shot.

I have changed four companies before I found my current fav company.

I have around 18 years working experience

At least it comes with an attractive salary and easy work commute for me. Maybe that can make it works for me.. For at least a while.

I would still prefer a MNC or GLC company to settle down wub.gif

It’s good that you have the drive to try something new, especially since you were already aware that management was trying to stifle your growth. Most importantly, you’re earning more, and you can use this new experience to upskill yourself and get that MNC/GLC job in a few years.

BTW, once you get used to your new work environment, you’ll feel like you’ve been there decades instead of months lol.

Spot on. Unless a request for salary adjustment is made, or a promotion/ counter offer made. Thus there's always the pros & cons of staying.

If you have no intention to stay anyway, just tell them flat out that you've made up your mind about the resignation.

It's okay that you point out some of the reasons/ situation but hold back from being too honest, as it may offend some who are involved.

Anyway all the best TS. It is always scary to step out of the comfort zone but if you don't do it, you won't know what's "out there" to learn & master in other organization. If you're lucky, you may even meet a good mentor in the new place.

For big corporations, there are various hidden cost you might not see. Try to look from their perspective, if you have an employee with you for more than 10 years and one day you decide to offer him/her a VSS, you will need to compensate 1 - 1.5 months of wage for each year of services.

U r absolutely right. I need to come clean and cut ties nicely as to not offend any people. I'm arranging a meeting with my subordinates and colleague to finalize and pass on the task that i had on my hand. Its about a month away from my last date now.

Retrenchment benefit is guaranteed by laws, unless the company files for bankruptcy

https://chialee.com.my/employment-law-retre...nt-in-malaysia/

Based on your employment tenure of 10 years, you are entitled for minimum 20 days of wage for each year of services. So, assuming you are getting RM 10k,

min = 10 years x 20 days x (10,000 / 26 days) = RM76,923.08

Most reputable companies, e.g. MNC, Public Listed Companies, they pay based on the market best practice, between 1.25 - 1.5 months, let's take 1.25 month

best case scenario = 10 years x 1.25 months x 10,000 = RM 125,000.00

It is quite common for those with big US European MNC to receive between 200k to 500k when their jobs are taken by low cost countries.

What passion? You are basically someone receiving paychecks month after month from your employer for the role they created for you to do..

You should save your passion to be an entrepreneur

That's easy :

1. Passion helps intensifying focus
2. It enables creativity and innovation (very important in my field)
3. Passion for work enhances the desire to pursue excellence
4. It increases your contribution to work
5. Passion brings energy at work (less absenteeism case)
6. You feel more satisfied and less stressed
7. Your working more does not become a mere ‘workload’
8. It is a great way of improving the work environment
9. You feel happy to put in extra hours and extra efforts

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”
-Martin Luther King Jr.-

But honestly i pity those that work without just the teeniest passion. Meaning u only work for the paycheck ? That's a bit sad tho.

I'm scared (probably coz jumping ship from top gun to lil gun) but at the same time happy as finally leaving this environment. A lil bit unsettling feeling coz i dunno how the new place gonna be also..

Wish me luck peeps and please share any similar experience u have similar to me ?

If you know very well or anything about passion then you shouldn't vr moaning here ..

It is either you go or stay ..your employer will always able to look for a replacement .. So no need to shout your passion is diminishing and it is like a lost to your ex exployer

Why so serious bro ?

Just throwing what i think and fishing for some wise thought and respond from others is normal in this forum.

I don't see anything wrong with what i'm asking.

No. I'm not good in business. I might be going back to Design. I'm looking for a work life balance kind of job also.

Although it might be impossible but i can try blush.gif

But not necessarily building design. Architecture can relate to any Design matters.
