Is it better to get more expensive wiper blades replace when needed or buy cheaper wiper but replace them every year?
Right now I'm using bosch clear advantage, started to leave water streaks after 2 years of use.
More expensive wiper is worth it?

My car windshield always coated with rain repellant
with NWB brand wipers that came with the car it lasted 1.5+ years then noticed it leaves some water streaks and judder after that switched to PIAA super graphite, currently 3rd year still working just fine This post has been edited by more2teayap: Jul 26 2022, 08:46 AM |

Since the days of my Vios 2003, I have always swapped to PIAA on all my cars in the household. I'd say my longest was on my wife's Jazz which lasted me at least 6 years before the car was sold. My Mini currently is on it as well. They leave a good layer on the windscreen which helps with water dispersion. And I would say I have had up to 10 pairs on various cars I have owned since then, with none requiring replacement.
The trick is, have your blades cleaned/alcohol wipes every now and then. There will always be dirt/dust/grime after some time. Some car wash are not detailed to clean the wipers and just raise and put back down. Keeping them clean is the best way to reduce judders/vibrations or streaks. |

You can install these PIAA blades in your existing wiper frames. Of kos, I am ass-uming you are using those normal black metal wiper frames coz some cars maybe using frameless wipers. ![]() |

In other countries, you just have to change the rubber blade. The whole wiper arm which is made of metal does not need changing.
Cheaper, less waste. Why can't we do the same? |

PIAA refill blade is good from my experience. Use it for 4+ years before i sold off the car.
Due to mounting bracket, the choice was quite limited, rm120 bosch or rm40+ PIAA refill. |

I'm using PIAA in my wife's City since 2019. She always park under direct sun. So far still functioning very good.
Based on my experience using Bosch Aerotwin on my previous car, max can manage up to ~3years. Then it'll start to judder & wiper blade crack. FYI I seldom put my car under direct sunlight. |

Its almost the same. Im using PIAA wiper ~Rm150. By now its almost 5 years or so and performance is going down especially when there is too little water. Comes about RM30/year If you go for normal wiper, its about that price per replacement (if you replace it once per year). Just less headache of constantly need to change the wiper. Regularly clean the blades and windscreen really helps reduce wear from dust/etc.Right now I'm using bosch clear advantage, started to leave water streaks after 2 years of use. bought DuraEdge wiper 5 years back. 50% discount back then at Ace Hardware for old myvi.
still serving well.. that time is still lifetime warranty.. (later version down to 5 years then 2 years only) i thought this wiper worn already.. but after polishing windscreen with cerium-oxide (watermark issue).. the wiper still working very well wiping rain water.. the wiper frame rusted anyway at the joints (normal frame type). other cars using cheap silicon frameless wipers.. usually last 3-6 months only.. Gave up, replaced with Bosch Advantage and never looked back. |

Bought Bosch Aerotwin back in 2019 and used it until this year 2022. Just replaced the same model.
So far the best wiper for me.. each year I tried to refresh the rubber and it can last another year.. only this year it shown the wear & tear, no longer able to sweep of the rain cleanly. |

After reading all the comments here, it seems that the best bet is to buy cheap and replace it as needed because the top end wiper life varies with different factors.
So I bought bosch advantage. RM15 for the pair. I use it for month, before suddenly the driver side become all juddery and skipping so bad that it causes the wiper to come off from the hook and left black rubbery mark all over the windshield. Upon closer inspection, it was caused by the wiper blade being 1 inch too long. This causes the edge of the wiper blade does not have the proper force pushing down on the windshield. My car is old Proton Persona, most seller says it uses 19" and 21", but I do think the driver side could use a shorter blade. Tried swapping the 19" blade on driver side, the wiper works just fine no problem. One other factor might be caused by the design of the blade. The cheap bosch advantage uses frame wiper design. Frameless wiper have better force applied on the windshield, eliminating juddering problem. |

Bought a whole bunch looking for a proper set.
1. SWV wipers (lifetime warranty) at about Rm300 per pair, service people kept throwing the ball at one another, not sure if still active but damn they merely wiped marginally better than those roadside ones at a hefty premium. 2. Those sold from a car at petrol station at about Rm15-35 per piece - terribly disappointed due to how cheap and bad it wiped. 3. Best pair I had so far was Stanford brought from Giant for about Rm30 one set. Actually coated my windscreen and helped prevent some watermarks. Since then no more on sale. Still works after few years but streaking has started, time to hunt for another pair i suppose. Would also agree that there's a need to clean the wipers and windscreen periodically. If already with watermarks have to use machine or elbow grease to do manually with: (MAKE SURE TO WASH AND CLAY BEFOREHAND) Dont bother with all those youtube videos on vinegar la, some bar of soap that allegedly removes watermarks, IPA, lemon, dish washer etc. a. Soft99 Glass stain remover, or b. Meguiars glass polishing compound Would help to also coat it when its clean and dry with something like Soft 99 Glaco (normal or ultra, depending on your use case). Bought a set of Wischer wipers on Shopee for my Honda CRV and Boxster and seems to work quite well in the rain.

A cheap 10-bucks wiper can last up to a year for me. Good enough. Heck, even those at Brother's are also good enough.
Avoid silicone wipers because of their attraction to dust. Pay so much but receive scratches on the windscreen instead. |

QUOTE(dudester @ Nov 15 2022, 03:14 PM) Thanks. Just bought the Pro to try. It was on flash sale. I used to have a silicon wiper in the past for my other car but over the years it deteriorated in terms of performance. Been sticking with rubber lately and it hasn't really been an issue. Cheaper and just replace when needed. They recommend the Silicon but i try the pro first. |

QUOTE(Steponlego @ Jul 25 2022, 11:18 PM) Is it better to get more expensive wiper blades replace when needed or buy cheaper wiper but replace them every year? I buy Bosch wipers at around RM10 each. Use for 1-2 years and replace. happy with this practise.Right now I'm using bosch clear advantage, started to leave water streaks after 2 years of use. |

QUOTE(myteam94 @ Aug 8 2022, 10:57 AM) Bought Bosch Aerotwin back in 2019 and used it until this year 2022. Just replaced the same model. Where you bought Bosch wipers from? If online can recommend store please. I’m concern if there are fake ones in market. ThanksSo far the best wiper for me.. each year I tried to refresh the rubber and it can last another year.. only this year it shown the wear & tear, no longer able to sweep of the rain cleanly. |

QUOTE(Steponlego @ Jul 25 2022, 11:18 PM) Is it better to get more expensive wiper blades replace when needed or buy cheaper wiper but replace them every year? make simple cost calculation will give you the answer.Right now I'm using bosch clear advantage, started to leave water streaks after 2 years of use. if a rm50 wiper works for 2 years VS a rm25 wiper works for 1.5 years, it's clear the rm20 wiper is better value. How important is that additional 0.5 years to you, is subjective. wipers are wear and tear items, highly recommended to replace them regularly anyway. I use bosch wipers too. cheap, and CLEAN. just replace every 1-2 years. no heartache. |

Am I the only one fancy RM 15 silicone wipers? Easily last more than 3 years with windshield coated at all times. But I don't really activate the wipers unless the windshield is wet enough.. Maybe that is why I don't have any scratches on my windshield.

QUOTE(nick2011 @ Dec 1 2022, 11:38 AM) Between clear advantage and aerotwin, I can't tell difference.Advantage uses rubber with steel frame. Clear advantage and aerotwin silicone with beam type - just single plastic frame holding the wiper blade. Supposedly it apply better equal force on the windshield surface because of the simpler frame construction. For some reason, my advantage wiper blade jumped and stuttered badly after a month - it was so bad that the wiper blade got dislocated and leave black rubbery stain on the windshield. I think clear advantage is already okay. QUOTE(Waliuuu @ Dec 1 2022, 03:16 PM) Am I the only one fancy RM 15 silicone wipers? Easily last more than 3 years with windshield coated at all times. You never know how exactly wet is wet enough. |

Used to use PIAA, it's good but at RM 300 per pair, it's not cheap. Currently, I am using Bosch Aerotwin (about RM 80 per pair), I think it's relatively good for the price.
Tried few of those below RM 50 wiper, kinda crappy so just avoid it. |

QUOTE(ktek @ Dec 1 2022, 09:45 PM) i fancy but dunno where to buy Shopee lol. Many types.. Just make sure the fitting and choose good ones.. Not just anyhow pick cheapest silicone lol. Not sure if its just me.. I actually tried rubber wipers but some only last 6months to 1.5yrs MAX. And rubber wipers pick up dirt so easily my windshield coating wear out faster compared to when I use silicone.. So yeah.. I prefer silicone > rubber.
