Is it better to get more expensive wiper blades replace when needed or buy cheaper wiper but replace them every year?
Right now I'm using bosch clear advantage, started to leave water streaks after 2 years of use.
More expensive wiper is worth it?

QUOTE(caviars @ Jul 26 2022, 07:44 AM) I tried Bosch clear advantage before. Not much different from cheaper one. one time i bought wiper from roadside seller. i said want just cheap regular one, seller upsell me clear silicone wiper, said very good. I am back using cheap silicon wiper and quite satisfy with it. The problem is that the quality may vary. the silicone wiper scratches the windshield. never again buy from no name silicone wiper. |

After reading all the comments here, it seems that the best bet is to buy cheap and replace it as needed because the top end wiper life varies with different factors.
So I bought bosch advantage. RM15 for the pair. I use it for month, before suddenly the driver side become all juddery and skipping so bad that it causes the wiper to come off from the hook and left black rubbery mark all over the windshield. Upon closer inspection, it was caused by the wiper blade being 1 inch too long. This causes the edge of the wiper blade does not have the proper force pushing down on the windshield. My car is old Proton Persona, most seller says it uses 19" and 21", but I do think the driver side could use a shorter blade. Tried swapping the 19" blade on driver side, the wiper works just fine no problem. One other factor might be caused by the design of the blade. The cheap bosch advantage uses frame wiper design. Frameless wiper have better force applied on the windshield, eliminating juddering problem. |

QUOTE(zak3 @ Aug 25 2022, 11:59 AM) i use shorter 1"-2" also on my cars. new wiper blade comes in mail... install, same thing happen. those long wiping is useless coz at the edge on windscreen (especially the top part), nobody is viewing from there.. tried adjust wiper angle, little difference. use clay bar on windshield, not much change. took car shampoo and bucket of water, give the windshield a quick wash.. well what do you know... zero wiper noise. |

QUOTE(nick2011 @ Dec 1 2022, 11:38 AM) Between clear advantage and aerotwin, I can't tell difference.Advantage uses rubber with steel frame. Clear advantage and aerotwin silicone with beam type - just single plastic frame holding the wiper blade. Supposedly it apply better equal force on the windshield surface because of the simpler frame construction. For some reason, my advantage wiper blade jumped and stuttered badly after a month - it was so bad that the wiper blade got dislocated and leave black rubbery stain on the windshield. I think clear advantage is already okay. QUOTE(Waliuuu @ Dec 1 2022, 03:16 PM) Am I the only one fancy RM 15 silicone wipers? Easily last more than 3 years with windshield coated at all times. But I don't really activate the wipers unless the windshield is wet enough.. Maybe that is why I don't have any scratches on my windshield. Not worth the risk of scratching windshield for RM15. You never know how exactly wet is wet enough. |
