yup.. thats why.. but considering the original Fit in japan launched 1st in early 2003 only then followed by the aria (CT).....

so lets just keep our fingers crossed and hope for a mid 2008 release of the Aria CT replacement...

but remember this.. we were among the last countries to receive the Jazz model in 2003.. so it might be the same case again.. so i predict we're only goin to get the Jazz and CT replacement model when the ARiA is released in japan.. and wait for our brothers in thailand and singapore to be flooded with the new CT, then only we get it on our shores.. just my 20kupangs...

This again I would like to second.. we tend to get deviated when we buy 'branded' cars and most of the time dismiss some quality issues in our Hondas/toyotas etc.. the fact is their QC is no much better as proton's 'tak-kesah' attitude even when considering they go by for example toyota 'the toyota way' standard..

Malaysian ppl easily get blinded by brands.. imho thats the secret behind honda's and toyota's success in the SEA region.. imho.. just slap on a brand.. ppl will buy in droves smile.gif

QUOTE(F1meteor @ Oct 26 2007, 09:54 AM)
hmm.. actually city does have it's own disadvantage.. but nobody mention it before.
i drove city for half year already, and city is not really as good as my expectation.
this is the first expansive car that my family had, previously was a problematic corolla, then iswara, then kelisa...
before i get this city, i had high expectation for it.
once driven it on highway and everyday to work, i found some disappointment:
- wind noise are poor when reach 90 km/h. i expect no wind noise up to 110 km/h or even higher
- pick up from 0 are rather slow compared to kelisa, unless i press hard on the accelerator or changing gear
- the sound from closing door is almost similar like closing a proton iswara door

anyway, i'm still a proud owner of a city laugh.gif
it's way better than all the previous cars that my family had owned.
*
- cant comment on the wind noise tho coz b4 this i was driving daily a charade espree > kancil > kelisa, then city... when i drove the ct for the 1st time i was like.. omg.. so quiet one... but yea, when u reach abt 120 i hear heavy wind noise, but at 90.. hmm.. maybe its not air.. maybe your tyre bearings are out..?

-i presume ure kelisa is also auto? imho.. its because of the weight of the CT compared to the kelisa, weight to engine ratio maybe smaller for the kelisa to the CT.. thats why motorbikes zoom faster at traffic lites also rite? anyways there is a way where you can out-accelerate your city way past even a manual car at a stop go situation (i.e traffic lites etc). when your at a full stop, go in s-mode, then turn on the 7-speed and shift down to put in manual mode, i.e gear 1. after trafic lite is green, push the pedal until acc to 5.5kRPMS and disengage 7speed mode to enter S-mode. the high rev of the 1st gear will get you moving real fast. Take note that you must disengage the 7speed before it reaches the redline at 5.8kRPMs, if u dont the 1st gear will go in to 2nd and you loose momentum. If you do it right, you will maintain the 5kRPM, and you feel a boost like nos (tongue.gif).. seriously ive tried it plenty of times.. and its damn great thumbup.gif

-This one i have to agree.. the door seems a little rough.. you need quite some force to shut it.. the proton neo has a nice door closing feeling.. far better than the CT.

U be careful dude.. i only try the 'stop-go' boost when the road is clear (i.e no imminent traffic ahead). the CT WILL REALLY accelerate very fast if you use the method i told b4. Be safe ok! tongue.gif

try it out at laaate night after u come back frm mapley brows.gif

start from 90 km/h you can listen to the wind noise edi. not loud, but very soft noise.
the engine is quite, this is damn good.
but the wind noise is very significant once above 100km/h

yes, the kelisa is an auto. i can feel the power once i step on the accelerator.
for city, have to change to S in order to feel the ommphhh
i don't really play with the gear, i bought mine 2nd hand. warranty until next year Feb.
gearbox rosak then i can sell the car edi shakehead.gif
so, have to be gentle with it and not simply abuse it if not provoked
lol.. first car is the problematic toyota corolla.. after sell that toyota, then bought iswara. iswara had serve me well for 13 years. then buy kelisa, then sell iswara for city thumbup.gif
*
Ya.. me too, I own a 2nd hand CT also.. warranty just kaput this month sweat.gif..

ive read in a few performance forums regarding whether the CVT kong if use this method.. actually its quite safe, the only drawback is on the engine only.. higher FC.. ure not straining the g/box that much, as youre just making the engine rev higher to achieve better torque. but I also dun use this that much.. just when i want to outrun those pesky revving evo-rally-high rear-big tyre- Proton Wiras at night thumbup.gif

Go ahead dude, Try.. thumbup.gif but for the 1st time b4 you get used to the technique, better do it on empty roads ok? safety first icon_idea.gif really shiioookk wooo! brows.gif

But better practice 1st, coz quite hard to prcisely release the 7speed at 5.5K RPM as you hv to keep youre eye on the road and also your meter at the same time... sweat.gif

soo sorry, wrong words.. mapley = mamak stall lorr.. smile.gif

Mine is of idsi wooorr... icon_rolleyes.gif

i think the vtec accel a bit slower coz the i-dsi engine has max torque at low RPM (2.7K RPM?).. so it accelerates a little faster, but lacks top speed like the vtec.... when the vtec hits 100++km/h youre in another dimension cool2.gif

YES! I hate those 'tonggek' cars very much shakehead.gif

BUT NO.. i dont hate proton.. In fact, i like the Neo very much.. Not to brag but FYI, I designed the testing system/procedure for the Neo's ABS and braking system and I made occasional trips to their factory in Tjg Malim to reprogram the Neo's ABS back when I was working for a proton OEM vendor.. its Proton's QC 'tak-kesah' attitude i despise..

QUOTE(neato4u @ Oct 26 2007, 06:31 PM)
My city still face the jerking problem.

I sent it to Honda SC a few weeks ago and they wired the car to a laptop and configure the engine settings. This was when i told them my car RPM goes up and down even when i didn't move the accelerator pedal.

Note that this only happens if i try to accelerate, like from 60 to 120 - so i simply step once and leave it - but the RPM kept going up and down like mad like jerking the car - felt no power.

So they tuned the engine.. after that i felt much better driving on D mode. S mode is ok as well, but i still feel underpowered.

A few days later i tried going to high speed, cruising at 110km/h and shifted to S gear and floored (just to test) and it was jerking AGAIN!

It's so noticable when i shifted to S gear, and more noticable if i shift to S and turn on the 7 speed mode.

What the *tut* is wrong with my Honda.

I'm going to send this baby again to SC after next month salary. Cheh!

However, FC drops now, before if i fill RM70 can onli run up to 380km. Now RM50 can go near to 400km thumbup.gif

at least i can save money there. But i dont dare to step on it anymore, later rosak more money liaw sad.gif
*
ures a vtech or idsi?

Sorry for your issue man,.. hmm.. b4 the issue came, did you usually floored the car on the road? play alot with the 7speed?

im a little worried, coz i usually punch in the 7spd mode whenever i want to overtake cars.. and turn them off when I get back in lane.. can this damage the CVT and 7speed??? shakehead.gif

real worried loooor like ure case... sad.gif

Whew! I just tried the steermatic, that was fun laugh.gif Tried Fasap's take-off technique, that was fast mellow.gif Btw, I don't really understand now.. S and L is for lower gears? Couldn't drive real smooth with steermatic, not used to it, but imma play more.
*
Heh.. told you so.. nice rite? you feel a slight boost when you revert to s-mode.. thumbup.gif Use wisely.. brows.gif

S-mode is quoted as the 'sports' mode as it lets the engine rev higher before each transmission variance. In other words, your engine boost more power for each change in the transmission compared to D-mode.. In the CT manual, its called the 'second' gear

L-mode is the low-gear mode, forgot the characteristics thou, but this also lets the engine rev higher (?).. mostly used to climb steep slopes/hill/mountain roads where std gears arent revving enough.. its not designed for speed but to deliver maximum torque and power for climbing..

Ah.. I see.. Last time I thought that S mode would only go to the first two gears whereas L mode uses the first gear only laugh.gif  laugh.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  doh.gif  doh.gif So S mode is still capable to go up to like the 5th gear and so right? Whenever I activate steermatic I'll feel a slight jerk, is it normal? Oh and, if I activate steermatic, but I don't shift (as in, keep it auto, not manual), any difference with the steermatic off? huh.gif
*
L mode, caters for very low gears, i.e 1->2.. you cant go speeding with L.

On the other hand, the S-mode is like D-mode, you get the full blow, and not just 3rd and 4th gears only, its only that in s-mode, RPMs that are developed are way higher 4K++.

Yes, you get a jerk when you turn on the 7spd, its due to the CVT--->ECU switching the car to go for higher RPMs. When you feel the jerk, you can see your RPM meter go way up faster to >3K RPMs

D-mode RPM: 1.5K-2.7K - Best for smooth engine load and good FC
S-mode RPM: 4K - 4.5K - Best for burst of power, greater engine load, higher FC
7speed RPM: 3K - 4.5K - Best of both, adequately high RPM (3K+) for good spd, and not so bad FC

Exactly.. some SAs, dont know squat abt the car they are selling.. they only know the 'basic' characteristics of the car.. I think evrytime we go see a Honda SA, we need to ask them what kinda car they use 1st, only then we decide to hear his babel or not.. heh whistling.gif

By the way, any one knows if we should start driving off if the Cold Temp Indicator is still ON?
*
Its normal.. the cold temp indicator just indicates your engine's coolant temperature not the engine as a whole. Its absolutely harmless to drive off but make sure you dont go swooshing around at 100km/h directly..

QUOTE(neato4u @ Oct 27 2007, 01:06 PM)
I heard one of the SC agent advising a City owner to punch the 7speed mode when overtaking for more power. If the SC advise so, i should think no problem. It does gives you more power / slight pickup.
No warranty anymore. Just changed the CVTF a few weeks ago @ Honda SC. As i said, they tuned the engine and it was ok for a while. But happened again. Maybe the car's memory 'forgot' the settings again? Or just couldn't learn my driving style?

Anyway going to SC next month to check this again. This time should i go to the same SC or to another one?
*
I think the 'tuning' of the cvt and ecu aint right.. try to ask again at the SC ppl.. why dont you bring them for a ride and show to them?

I think you better go to another SC and ask their opinion.. cont recommend any thou, but what ive heard, Sri Utama Auto Sdn Bhd is good:

Sri Utama Auto Sdn Bhd
No. 21,22 & 23, Jalan Usahawan 5, Setapak Industrial Area, Off Jalan Genting Kelang, 53200 Kuala Lumpur.
Tel : 03-4024 2266
Fax : 03-4024 9320

dunno if its that good, but heard a lot of good feedback frm customer going here.. why not try?

I doubt its a g/box problem.. if its a g/box problem you shouldve been in a gutter rite now.. imho.. Logically thinking, why would honda slap on the 7speed mode if its prone to break down and risky to use in the 1st place rite?.. I think the CVT-7 couldnt be damaged so easily.. its just you have to do the services religiously.. normal driving conditions and sudden burst of power needed frm the system wont destroy it imho.. but ive seen many ppl, (mainly families with idsi CTs) wont even dare to turn on the 7speed as they say, 'nanti g/box rosak kalau guna 7speed' wtf? what a waste.. i think that's why honda removed the 7speed mode frm their new 4G CTs...

Ok.. one question..

Like ive informed earlier, I just bought a 2nd 2004 idsi CT, and the warranty already kaput last month. currently my mileage reaching the 25K km mark.

1. should I go for my 1st service at a Honda SC or just go to normal mechanic? at this interval, am I better of with Honda SC or normal mechanic?

2. what is usually serviced @ 25k km service?

3. what is the major service mileage for the CT? 30K? 40K? what's the cost?

hope to get feedback frm you guys.. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(joivyhn @ Nov 5 2007, 10:07 PM)
SInce tis honda city forum, I need some advice from u all. I going to buy a car either new 1 or second hand 1. but my budget can be around 55k. So what i'm thinking is should i buy a 4 yrs old Honda city than a new myvi??
*
Frankly speaking, if this is your 1st car and youve got no apparent experience on car maintenance and such, getting a NEW myvi would be the best choice for the long run as it has free service and such. Youll hv a peace of mind knowing that your car is at least 'protected'.

furthermore, you have to search very hard to hunt down a good condition 2nd hand city that is a worth the buy. buying 2nd hand cars have a lot of risks, as you dont have clear history of the car and what it has been thru, unless you buy frm someone you know.

But frm what i see, frankly speaking, comparing a myvi and a city (even 2nd hand) is unfair.. the city has way better cabin space, ride comfort, and technology. If you ask me whether to buy a new myvi or a 2nd city, ill definitely buy a 2nd city.. As im already a 2nd hand city owner myself:P

but the key is here is to survey a lot of city cars 1st before you make a decision to buy a 2nd hand city. Youll have to look for City's that atleast have a smooth engine, acceptable mileage, clean interior, and at least hving a list of its service records done by the previous owner.. only then itll be worth evry single penny.. but this i assure you it wont be a walk in the park.

If you have the extra cash, it will be worth it if you can fork out a bit and say, buy at least a 2004 or 2005 model, as they are a newer batch and may have less 'issue' than 2003 models imho.. a 2004 idsi ranges frm 56-59K, and a 2005 idsi 60-62K. If you go for a 2005 city, youll atleast hv 6-8 mth of free service/warranty left.

for me: New Myvi <--> 2nd City? i'll take the city without doubt (except abt warranty lorr sweat.gif )... hands down. notworthy.gif

Cool. Fixed liao. Is it just CVTF replacement then the sound gone?

Frm my experience with my previous cars.. the aeroplane sound originates frm your wheel bearings (front or rear). Like DelSol stated, it might be affected by your wheel alignment also.. not the CVTF.. wink.gif

- chk/change wheel bearings
- chk wheel alignment

do correct me if im wrong..

cheers!
