Im here to revive this dead thread.. haha. My mba having issues with the 2 usbc ports. They dont seem to work.. tried restarting, updated latest software, did diagnostics no error. The port supplies power but thats all.. can't read usb drive, cant connect DAC...etc.. connect phone only charge. Any ideas?

Hey guys.. got my mac diagnosed at machines.. seems need to change motherboard and touch id. I read through their diagnostics seems the cant really find the cause of the thunderbolt ports not working, so the solution is to change the whole logic board? Quoted me 3.3k which is about 50% of the mac... sigh.. what would you guys do? Its out of warranty repair. 3.3k i could buy m1 mba or some other windows laptop.

I'd buy a brand new one. Reason being, since it's out of warranty and half the price of a brand new one, don't know if the LCD, keyboard, battery will give way within the next few months. I'd buy brand new with full warranty again.

Damn..so sad.. i had good experience with macs before..lasted me 5 years or more with no issue. I purposely custom 16gb ram 512gb ssd to use a few years.

16gb can consider. ssd no need as will worn out and whole machine need to throw away. so get nvme enclosure and put 2tb better

You can always try out third-party mac repair shop. Apple these days are just changing whole motherboard whenever got faulty.

How to do that ? this current MBA less than 2 years old. Do you mean ssd permanently stuck on the MBA ? haha

This is my next option i guess.. else.. try to sell it off cheaper.

macbook ssd is permanently on board. u can replace it like normal laptop

Guys what do you guys suggest me to do with my MBA with faulty usb-c ports? Only can use for browsing etc..haha.. unless I do everything via cloud ...hahah

Just curious, did you or someone from the company installed anti-virus or use your MBA to join company's domain that disable USB port due to company policy?

My company's laptop disable all USB port and doesn't allow to transfer any data via USB and block all access to the cloud. Basically the USB-C port only can be use as charging port only.

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint do have such capabilities to disable removable drives.

Nah man.. its my personal mac, and it has been formatted a few times for diagnostics n troubleshooting. Im trying to use more cloud based storage since i cant use usb storage. Have yet to send it to another 3rd party mac repair.

Hi Guys, wanted to ask is Applecare+ cover battery ? my mac has a few months before the 1 y warranty expires, still thinking whether to get Applecare+ or not

Can just get, mine was just over 1 year before the usbc ports rosak terus, regretted not getting apple care..

Sorry to hear that man. If your MBA warranty has expires or these issue doesn't covers in the warranty (that's why they quoted you for RM3.3k for the repair), you can consider to bring your MBA to third party technician to have do a diagnosis and see what's their findings.

If the price are reasonable, can consider to get it fixed instead of just using these 2 precious port as just a pure charging port only

P/S: Have you tried using those USB-C extension that gives you extra USB-A ports, HDMI and RJ45 port? If yes, does those works?
