I got the November security patch three week ago and it's not even the near stock ui 😅.

Moto really have to improve their updating speed considering they promoting it as near stock android.

Anyway with the price of edge 30, really nothing to complaint about. It's good spec for the price 👍

Cons of near stock UI

- Permanently visible gesture navigation bar
- No option to turn off notifications awaken lock screen
- non functioning auto brightness even with Adaptive Brightness turn on

Pros

- home screen gesture better than Huawei's
- not much background apps running

Has anyone picked up the Moto S30 Pro (China version of the Edge 30 Pro) here? No word from Moto Malaysia on when this
will be available locally but I can see a few regular parallel importers having them listed on Shopee for RM 1.6K or so for the
8GB/128GB version (about RM 200.00 more for the 12GB/256GB version) flashed with Global ROM and Google services.

NEVER get a Moto CN device that is flashed to Global ROM. You can NEVER update software via OTA and can NEVER go back to original firmware.

If you are interested, just buy the China version in SEALED BOX.
Google Play services is built-in to the phone so no issue installing Play Store and other Google apps. All banking apps are 100% working.

Thanks so much for confirming that! A friend was looking at it since the price difference between the Edge 30 and S30 Pro / Edge 30 Fusion is
not marginal. Obviously we both thought having a global ROM flashed would have been a better option. So you're saying it's better to just get
a sealed CN set install Play Store + Google apps after setting the phone language to English?

Yes. Sealed box/not flashed to Global ROM.
Advantages of having CN ROM vs Global ROM:

1. Faster and regular software updates. Why? Because Lenovo (and other Chinese OEMs) prioritize China Market as there are more users there compared to the rest of the world.

2. Exclusive Motorola DeviceShield app - you can natively lock apps, select apps to run in background, etc.

3. More UI customization. If you want the full "iOS look", you can do so as the gestures + notification tray is the same as iPhone (not available in Global ROM). You can also switch to the Google Pixel look as well.

Btw, take note and this is IMPORTANT:
China ROMs (not just Motorola devices) are known to kill background apps (check any Xiaomi or Huawei forum). Motorola knows that is why they created Moto Device Shield app.

This is what you NEED (yes, NEED!) to do so you won't experience delayed notifications:


1. Open Motorola DeviceShield app
2. Click "App auto start"
3. Select apps that should auto start (example WhatsApp and Messenger)
4. Go back
5. Click "Background running"
6. Search for the app (example WhatsApp), tap on it and change to "Allow running in the background".


Also, if you backed up your contacts to your Google account and want to restore to your Moto CN ROM device, make sure to install Google Contacts Sync apk.

If you want your Google Calendar data to get restored, just install Google Calendar, open it and let it sync. Once synced, you can uninstall and keep using the default Moto Calendar as it has been sycned there.

That's it.
Don't ask me why like that. It's just the way it is as Google apps are not pre-installed by default.
