If you don't have any channel/show that you want to watch that is only available on unifi tv, buying a DVB-T2 decoder/antenna is a better choice
Good picture quality, not affected by weather or connectivity issue, some channels that are not available in unifi tv
*
i think for newer tv since more than 8 years ago should already equip with DVB-T2 built-in tuner. so one should be able to view those free air channels (digital) by now without any tv box.

Yeah, that's why my recommendation is to buy decoder or antenna
You still need the antenna even if your tv have the decoder built in
*
yes, but can reuse the old antenna since analogue tv erra. so not really need to buy extra antenna too.

Dear Friends. I have a question about my unifi broadband. I have the 800mbps package and using the Router provided by Tm. However wifi max speed is only 300 mbps. Will changing my router to wifi 6e router improve my wifi speeds or is it capped to 300 mbps no matter what ?..Appreciate some feedback. Thanks
*
what wifi router are u using? it must be a super old wifi router then only can hit 300 Mbps?

even a normal wifi 5 should be able to hit 500Mbps easily if within the strong coverage.

unifi 800Mbps - Super Value YEP 2019  it was the original one that came with this package

TP Link Archer C1200

Check if u are on 2.4Ghz or 5GHz. If u are on 5GHz and more than ONE devices that with wifi 5 and above capacity and 300Mbps is the max u can get. It means the wifi router is the bottleneck just change a new wifi 6 mesh router to fully cover ur house and get higher speed.

i am on 5ghz..i do have deco m5 connected to the router ..which also doesnt help...so you reckon i should change my router to wifi 6 or wifi 6 e?..can you recommend one please
*
No need to go for 6e unless u want to be future proof. It is overkilled I would say. Just go for wifi 6 mesh will do.

Some agent posting an ad i suppose
Maxis provides a wifi 6 router too, and actually before TM offered a wifi 6 router.

Just an ad, can ignore.

Edit, I just looked into it
Seems like the actual plan price is RM159 monthly with a 6 months free promo

The 119 price comes from
159x6=954
159x24=3816
3816-954=2862
2862/24=~119
*
The calculation is correct. This is why they advertise at the price of rm119 (before SST of course).

Just now i bought a Cat 6 cable 30m. My main router wifi 6 is at living room ground floor. So, i pulled the cable up to level 1 and made my old router becoming AP. The speed is same as ground floor. However, the cabling looked horrible. Yes, mesh might be expensive but cosmetic wise, it will make your whole house becoming neat and nice without ugly lan cable crawling here and there.
*
Mesh wifi routers are the best and only solution now. I managed to solve my long term wifi connection prob upstairs by setting up a Linksys mesh also.

I can get almost the same speed and latency comparing to downstairs now.

Happy with the 300Mbps plan which it gives more than what I need for one person.

Icic. If Maxis CR can just get from agent then is better. Didn't know about that else would have saved 6 months bill.
*
6 months deal is nice. Effectively rm102.5 per month nett for 2 years 300Mbps plan.

By then hopefully Time will be released for landed access. brows.gif
*
Which is unlikely I guess. The infra cost for landed is much higher than high rise.

Would be nice though if more competition entered the game. At least TM will have to stay on their toes to keep their customers. TNB is still too new in the network playing field.
*
Quite difficult.

Dun think there will be other ISPs will invest on the infra. Even TNB is only filing up the gaps by TM only.

Dun think TNB will cover the areas that are already covered by TM.

Even in lion city there is only one fibre infra owned by one company and it rents the infra to all the telcos to offer fibre broadband.

Actually TIME did explain few years back

They wanted to deploy infra but approval was not given

hi All,
Just to share last week I walked into TM Point, asked to downgrade from current 800mbps to 300mbps. Manage to get the SWU2.0
- 300mbps @ RM129
- free replacement wifi6 router
- free 6 months bills waiver
- free call (no replacement phone)
- no TV pack.

Without Maxis TR ID. Just tried my luck by showing them what Maxis could offer. Contract ended few years back.
*
that's the offer most are getting now. i think it is a fair enough plan with decent speed + cheap price.
effectively one is only paying only rm107 nett (including SST) average monthly for a duration of 24 months.

Got my free wifi6 router model Dlink DIR-X3060Z, anyone using same model?

How is the performance, got two unit.

Thought will be given x1860z since I prefer the boxy design.
*
So good? They give two units?

Cause the mesh you are using is not fast enough. You need to really overspec your mesh WiFi to get optimal speed.

Take a dual-band WiFi 6 AX1800 mesh system as example, the maximum capacity is 1200Mbps on 5GHz.

Maximum attainable speed on mesh node is half of the capacity due to WiFi retransmission = 600Mbps

Factor in around 50% signal loss over 2 walls = 300Mbps

Factor in another 20% lost due to various inefficiencies = 240Mbps

You can apply this formula to get a rough estimation of the speed you can get on the mesh node of your mesh WiFi system.

When you want to buy a dual-band mesh WiFi system, just multiply the 5GHz backhaul speed by 20% to get a rough estimation of the maximum speed you can get on the mesh node.
*
Just buy a tri-band mesh instead to get full speed.
