My acer aspire 9 years still running fine. Changed Harddisk on the 6/7th year, which is normal. Added ram to 8gb too.

HP Mini 110 - Get as 1 Malaysia laptop back in 2008. Use casually by my sister until 2013. Last year 2 year I tried still can On. Nothing to do with it so I just store as childhood nostalgia

HP Pavilion G4 - Buy 2011 - My laptop during SPM day. Already replace HDD. Apart from broken hinge, still OK until today. Use in my parents house as casual laptop.

Lenovo Y580 - Buy 2013 last year 2021 kaput. Transistor died & not worth the repair. 8 years is OK for me as I heavy gaming every day.

Dell E7440 - Company laptop. 2014 start use. Very reliable workhorse. Everyday I use at production line. Dropped, knocked by jig, even I bring into heater chamber. Never gives problem. Now already buy for my part time job use.

HP 850 G5 - Company laptop. 2019 start use. Not so good. Battery died 2 month before warranty end. Touch screen got ghost touch. 3.5mm port also kaput.

My verdict - Reliable for long term use: Lenovo, reliable for harsh use: Dell

Hello. Please share how long you been using your laptop and what brand is it?

I been using Lenovo laptop. Now its around 7 years already. However during the 3rd year, both motherboard and HDD failed. Claimed under warranty.

It should be based on the series not the brand. One cannot compare the reliability of a consumer grade laptop with an enterprise grade laptop.
Eg Dell Latitude, HP Elitebook, ACER Travelmate, Lenovo Thinkpad and etc. Usage environment also matters a lot.

Both Dell and HP sucks. Chinese and Taiwanese products are now much better in quality than American products.

American products used to be reliable 20 years ago but not now, full of bugs and problems nowadays

Bought my first HP many years ago but never again after realising how unreliable it is.

I am using ASUS now, maybe switching to Lenovo when i upgrade to faster machine

Go for Lenovo. If you compare same specs at different brand, you can see Lenovo laptop is cheaper by RM200. From what I know from my company IT tech, HP & Dell is preferred as company laptop/PC mainly because after sales & brand preferences. My company is Europe MNC, even power tools here use Atlas Copco or Stanley eventhough Makita is cheaper.

Of course, European companies would prefer their own or American brands because they are of the same race.

Reliability? ThinkPad. Any model.

Parts easy to find and cheap too. Forget shops at LYP or DM. Just order from AliExpress and wait 2 months.

Which country designed and produce Thinkpad?

Why is it better than ASUS or Lenovo?

IBM until 2004. After that, Lenovo.

Being a ThinkPad collector myself, I have models from 2005 such as the X32 still in pristine working condition. Almost every old ThinkPad I acquired all works as intended.

Only those I found from the dumpster or given away need new parts from AliExpress. Parts are easily swapped around with different ThinkPads.

I generally satisfied with my 2010 Dell Lattitude, and 2010 Thinkpad.

Both are very-very durable.

I no longer use battery for these two computer, but use power outlet instead..

Just don't buy those Thunderobot/Illegear, they only resell China brands like Tongfang, reliability is not good with many battery problems. Spare parts also extremely difficult to get.

My vote is for Dell Latitude or Lenovo Thinkpad series. If want to game, get a desktop PC or Lenovo Legion series

If anyone need to service their laptop, can PM me also.

What took you so long to consider SSD? Just do it.
